The role that they want Three dancers from Altona’s Elenya Performing Arts Center will be dancing like greased lightnin’. Altona’s James Evans, 11, and Swaye Draper, 14, and Werribee’s Shae Roether, 13, have been selected as part of the chorus for Grease – The Arena Experience. The world’s largest production of Grease, featuring some of Australia’s biggest stars, will be performed at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena in April. The young local trio were put through a training boot camp prior to rehearsals, dancing to hits from the most popular movie musical of all time. Elenya principal Donna De Paoli said the three were selected from about 2000 who auditioned. “I just think it is wonderful because I think kids need to realise they’ve got to work hard, and these kids do work hard,” she said. “To actually go into a big audition and realise that
they can do it and achieve things through hard work, I think is wonderful.” Another student from Elenya, 12-year-old Crystal Brooking of Werribee South, was recently cast in the Melbourne City Youth Ballet production of Alice in Wonderland. She played multiple roles, including that of a card soldier guarding the Queen of Hearts. Goya Dmytryshchak
