Dr. Adrian Guerra Selected to Participate in the “Aspiring Superintendents Academy for Latino and Latina Leaders”

Graduates of the academy should be well equipped to lead 21st century schools with creativity, vision and a commitment to equity and excellence.

Congratulations to Dr. Adrian Guerra for being one of 30 individuals throughout the United States to be selected to participate in the “Aspiring Superintendents Academy for Latino and Latina Leaders”.

Participants are screened for the highest quality candidates. Those selected for participation in the program will be outstanding, high-performing leaders whose next logical career moves would be to the superintendency.

Congratulations once again to the amazing Roma ISD Battle of the Books teams from F. J. Scott Elementary School and Ramiro Barrera Middle School on their awesome accomplishment of winning the 2024 Region One ESC Regional Battle of the Books Competitions! The students and their coaches were honored by the Roma ISD School Board at the board’s April 17, 2024 meeting. The board members expressed their pride in this history-making accomplishment for Roma ISD. They thanked the students for their hard work, the parents for their devotion to the education of their children, and the Roma ISD Library Services Program team for their constant promotion of literacy at Roma ISD.

This Academy is a highly interactive year-long program that provides participants with the real-world skills a next generation superintendent will need to thrive. The Academy will cover topics essential to developing a deep understanding of the leadership role of a successful superintendent.

Dr. Guerra is currently the Special Education Director for Roma ISD, where he previously served as Federal Programs Director, Performing Arts Director, and Choir Director. He is a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators and the American Association of School Administrators.

He serves as board member for the Starr County Hospital District and member of the Texas Continuing Advisory Committee on Special Education. He also serves as Minister of Music for Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Roma.

Congratulations to Mariachi Grulla De Plata for being named the 2024 GRAND CHAMPIONS of the Culturas Unidas Mariachi Competition in Laredo, TX. Mariachi Grulla De Plata earned Best Vocals, Best Armonia, and 1st Place in the Encore Varsity Division. Also congratulations to Grulla High School Mariachi Grulla De Plata for earning 1st Place in 4A at the 2024 TAME State Competition held at the Somerset ISD Performing Arts Center. It is with great pride and pleasure to announce that Mariachi Grulla De Plata is 12 times 4A State Champs!!! Once again congratulations and way to represent GATOR Nation!!!

Who Will be Rio Grande City’s Next Miss Freedom Fest?

The Rio Grande City Miss Freedom Fest Pageant is set to take place on Friday, June 7, 2024, offering young women in the community a chance to showcase their talents and contend for the coveted title.

Registration packets for the pageant are now available and can be picked up at the Kelsey Bass Museum located at 101 S. Washington Street. This event, a highlight of the city’s annual Freedom Fest celebration, offers participants an opportunity to represent Rio Grande City with pride and grace.

“We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming Miss Freedom Fest Pageant,” said Cathy Rubio, coordinator of the event. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for young women in our community to showcase their talents and be part of our city’s festivities.”

“The Miss Freedom Fest Pageant is a tradition that celebrates poise, talent, and community spirit,” added Rubio.

The pageant is open to contestants from ages 4-18. Winners will have the opportunity to represent Rio Grande City at local events and engage in community service activities throughout their reign.

The Rio Grande City Miss Freedom Fest Pageant promises to be an exciting and memorable event, bringing together residents to celebrate the spirit of Rio Grande City and its talented youth.
