Michelle A. Meraz 3rd Place in the TSC Dante Barrera 7th Place Overall in Discus Throw 487-2596 Mariachi Festival Vocal Competition in the UIL State Track & Field Championship 4350 E. US HWY 83 R.G.C.

RGCGISD is proud of senior track and field athlete Dante Barrera for placing 7th overall in boy’s discus throw in the 2024 UIL State Track & Field Championship at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin! Dante placed 7th with a throw of 172’11 to cap off a historic and extraordinary senior campaign for the Rattler! Senior Dante Barrera competed in the boy’s discus throw against some of the best athletes across the state! Only 9 athletes get to compete at this meet and Dante earned his way there after a nearly perfect and dominating season! Dante finishes his senior year as the Rio Grande Valley leader, District Champion, Area Champion, and Regional Champion, and top ten in the entire state, winning 15 gold medals on the season! Dante will now focus on choosing which division 1 college he’ll be attending to continue his track and field career! Thank you for representing Rio Grande City so well this year! Students from all around Texas were invited to participate in the first annual Buc Days Food Challenge presented by H-E-B. Representing Starr County 4-H in Corpus Christi, Texas and receiving a $500 prize & Reserve Grand Champion Team in the Intermediate Division: Aiden Michael Gonzalez, Olivia Aurora Guerra, and Nicolas Geronimo Guerra. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mrs. Janette Salinas Garza’s CTE Culinary Arts class from Rio Grande City High School for their outstanding performance at the “Food Around the World” competition in Orlando, Florida. Congratulations to Starr County’s Little Aggies who competed at the first annual Buc Days Food Challenge presented by H-E-B Corpus Christi, Texas. They represented Starr County 4-H and received a $400 prize and 3rd place team in the Junior Division: Adalyn Perez, Leila Renee Martinez, Mackenzie Rose Lopez, and Abram Cantu.
