Starr County Fair Queen and Princesses Crowned Daisy Olivares Advances to State Competition in Choir Solo and Ensemble

The 2023 Starr County Fair Queen and her court were crowned at the annual Youth Fair Pageant held Saturday evening at the RGCGISD Fort Ringgold Auditorium. Analiya D. Fleming is the 2023 Starr County Fair Queen and was also named Miss Congeniality. A senior at Rio Grande City High School, seventeen year old Analiya is the daughter of David and Velma Fleming. Daniela Garza, 2022 Starr County Fair Queen, was on hand for her final walk, to help present awards, and to assist throughout the pageant. Named Teen Princess was Cecilia Claret Hinojosa, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joe and Cindy Hinojosa; Preteen Princess is Noree Lyn Pena, daughter of Noel Pena and Nancy Villarreal; Petite Princess is Miranda Aliza Avila, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mariano and Aida Avila; and Precious Princess is Emma Rhae Garza, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rey Garza. The pageant was sponsored by Starr County 4-H, and 4-Hers volunteered throughout the event. 4-H Club Sweethearts and Beaus were also introduced.

Special congratulations to Daisy Olivares for competing in Solo and Ensemble Contest in Edinburg. She got a division 1 rating and is advancing to state competition. General Ricardo Sanchez Elementary proudly announce the GRSE Odyssey of the Mind Team for the 2022-2023 school year!! GRSE are excited to embark on this journey with the coach and students as they showcase their talents through their performance! The students, under the direction of Mr. Elias Saenz, have been hard at work practicing their performance in anticipation for their Texas State Competition!! Thank you Mr. Sáenz for your unending support in ensuring the students are taken to new heights of enrichment through creativity, impromptu, art, and problem solving!

The theme for the 58th annual Starr County Fair in 2023 will be “Celebrating Fort Ringgold-175th Anniversary.” The Starr County Fair Association wants to emphasize a patriotic theme at the Fair and the Starr County Fair annual parade, set for February 18 in downtown Rio Grande City at 10:00 a.m. What better way than to celebrate all of our Starr County Veterans, who have represented our county by serving their country! Congratulations to all our veterans and thank you for your service! They will be recognized at the Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday evening and featured in the parade. Rio Grande City’s trolley, Bessie III, will be provided for

the veterans to ride in, or they may provide their own vehicle and help lead the patriotic parade. VFW Posts may participate as a group, if desired, or individuals may participate with no charge. Veterans needing more information may call Parade Chair Tissa Peterson at 500-1430 or Mark Olivarez, 956-735-3295. The Fair Parade it will reflect the 2023 theme, “Celebrating Fort Ringgold 175th Anniversary,” with all Veterans of Starr County to serve as Parade Marshals and the three JROTC Units of Starr County honored as Volunteer Group of the Year. Also featured will be Volunteer of the Year, Veronica “Ronnie” Alaniz. Lineup begins at 8:00 on South Britton Avenue and Water St.
