Roma ISD Students Won Region One Holiday Art Contest

Annette Garcia with the Region One Education Service Center visited Roma ISD to celebrate two students who were selected as the winners of the Region One ESC 2022 Holiday Art Contest. Alexandra L. Garcia of Emma Vera Elementary was the winner of the Elementary School Division. Alyson Martinez of Roma Middle School was the winner of the Middle School Division. The designs created by both students are featured on the official Region One ESC holiday cards, which are sent to area superintendents, school districts and statewide education agencies. Congratulations to these amazingly talented students.

Virtual Pre-Bid Conference: Will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A Zoom link will be provided by the Engineer to all prospective bidders.

Bid Security: A bid bond in the amount of 5 percent of the bid issued by an acceptable surety shall be submitted with each bid [for those contracts that exceed $100,000]. A certified check or bank draft payable to the City of Rio Grande City or negotiable U.S. Government Bonds (as par value) may be submitted in lieu of the Bid Bond. Adherence to the grant recipient’s Section 3 Policy is required for contracts and subcontracts in excess of $100,000.00.

The project to be constructed will be financed with assistance from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and is subject to all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations. Attention is called to the fact that not less than, the federally determined prevailing (Davis-Bacon and Related Acts) wage rate, as issued by the Department of Labor and contained in the contract documents, must be paid on this project. In addition, the successful bidder must ensure that employees and applicants for employment are not discriminated against because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.

All contractors/subcontractors that are debarred, suspended or otherwise excluded from or ineligible for participation on federal assistance programs may not undertake any activity in part or in full under this project. Minority Business Enterprises, Small Business Enterprises, and Women Business Enterprises, and Historically Underutilized Business firms are encouraged to submit bids.

The City of Rio Grande City reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to waive any informalities in the bidding. Commissioner Buckingham Announces the 27th Annual “Treasures of the Texas Coast” Children’s Art Contest

Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. kicked off the 27th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest, which is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-A-Beach Program. All Texas students, public, private, and homeschooled, in kindergarten through sixth grade are encouraged to send in their masterpieces. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and should depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the student.

This year’s grand prize winner will receive one 6-8-night Caribbean cruise for two from

Royal Caribbean International departing out of Galveston, Miami, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, or Puerto Rico, two day passes to Six Flags Over Texas or Hurricane Harbor Arlington, and a copy of the book “The Big Beach Cleanup” by Charlotte Offsay.

The grand prize winner’s teacher will also receive one 6-8-night Caribbean cruise for two from Royal Caribbean and prizes from Texas Adopt-A-Beach.

All 40 finalists, comprised of 10 winners from each group of K-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th, and 6th grades, will receive one free ticket to Schlittterbahn, one free ticket to visit the USS Lexington, a coupon to visit the Texas State Aquarium, prizes from Texas Parks and Wildlife, prizes from Texas Adopt-A-Beach, a certificate of recognition from the Texas General Land Office, and copies of the 2024 calendar displaying the winning artwork.
