Rio Grande City native, Dr. Patricia-LaurelGarza and her husband, Dr. Delfino Randy Garza celebrated the debut of their new medical practice, Doctors Clinic of Rio Grande City, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Members of the Rio Grande City EDC and RGC Commissioners welcomed the crowd of over 50 guests, as the doctors showcased their passion and efforts in the restoration of the aged building located in Historic Downtown Rio Grande City. “I’d like to thank my wife for having the vision for the restoration of the building, inside and out,” Dr. Delfino Randy Garza said. “Her attention to detail is a reflection on how she treats her patients and I want to thank our family for this wonderful blessing of a clinic we have together.” “We want to thank all of our friends, family and patients. It was a challenge getting our computers installed and coordinating with insurance companies to get on board with us and we want to thank you for your patience,” Dr. Patricia LaurelGarza said. “This has been a dream of ours for several years and we knew we wanted to be downtown.”

Dr. Patricia Laurel-Garza specializes in Internal Medicine and Dr. Delfino Randy Garza is a General Surgery Specialist. “We welcome Drs. Patricia Laurel and Randy Garza to the community. With the addition of their medical practice, we are excited to see the continuing expansion of quality health services in Rio Grande City,” said Rey Ramirez, City of Rio Grande City Commissioner and Rio Grande City EDC Board President. “The addition of two physicians to our greatly medically underserved community is a wonderful blessing. Having one of them be homegrown and the other be a general surgeon, also from a rural community, who is not only

willing but also enthusiastic about operating at Starr County Memorial Hospital is a double blessing. We look forward to many years of having them be an active part of both our medical community and our community as a whole,” said Dr. Javier D. Margo, Jr., Rio Grande City EDC Board Treasurer and Chief of Staff for Starr County Memorial Hospital. Doctors Clinic of Rio Grande City is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and located at 208 N. Britton Avenue in Rio Grande City. For more information, please call (956) 4138786. Remembering Beulah: The Hurricane That United Two Countries

The City of Rio Grande City and the Kelsey Bass Museum and Event Center are hosting a 50 Year Anniversary Commemoration event that features the unity of our community during a disaster that affected surrounding areas and our neighbors in Ciudad Camargo and Comales, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The unveiling of the exhibit will feature Mr. Tim Smith, Channel 5 Chief Meteorologist and members of the Dr. Mario Ramirez family. The exhibits include canvas reproductions from the Dr. Mario Ramirez UT digital collection and recreated scenes from the gym during the devastation of Hurricane Beulah in September 1967. The events are free and open to the public. Join us on Tuesday, September 5th at 10:00 am at the Kelsey Bass Museum located at 101 S. Washington St. for the unveiliang ceremony and reserve your free spot for one of the two trolley tours scheduled for 1:30

and 3:00 that afternoon. The tour will depart from the museum and take you to historic Fort Ringgold and around Rio Grande City to revisit the sites where refugee centers were located in September 1967. Also on the agenda are two ‘Tardeadas en el Patio”.
