Grulla High School Mariachi Grulla de Plata competed in the 22nd Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza on December 2nd and 3rd 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. Grulla High School Mariachi Grulla de Plata brought home 3rd Place in the High School Category! The RGCCISD School Board of Trustees and Administration would like to congratulate all students who proudly represented our school distinct, as well as their directors and parents for their guidance and support.

Home Assistance and Rehabilitation Projects Mr. Rudy Montalvo- County of Starr Federal Programs Director and his staff have been working diligently on federal applications for grants to help build and rehabilitate homes in Starr County. The county has received close to 400 thousand in grant monies which will be utilized for the construction and rehabilitation of five (5) homes for families county wide. The families that have been awarded these grants go through a screening process as per grant guidelines in order to determine eligibility. County of Starr Federal Programs Director Mr. Rudy Montalvo and Mr. Emmanuel Martinez-Starr County Federal Programs Project Manager met with Mr. Eloy Amador-HOME Program Housing Inspector who will conduct the home inspections to outline the grant requirements and guidelines to ensure that the homes are built up to code specifications. Mr. Amador who holds a Construction Certification has extensive experience in commercial and residential building and will work closely with the architect, construction managers and Starr County Federal Programs Staff to ensure that all work is done in a timely manner and meets all requirements. Last week, L&F Distributors donated $500 to the Rio Grande City Crime Stoppers-Toys for Rio Kids. The money was used to purchase toys which were added to a pool of contributions which resulted in hundreds of toys being distributed to local children on Monday morning, December 19. Toys for Rio Kids has been distributing toys to Rio Grande City children for the past several years with the help of many generous businesses, individuals and organizations. “Donations like these from L&F make it possible for us to continue this tradition and is greatly appreciated,” stated Rio Grande City Crime Stoppers spokesperson, Ana Ramirez.

F.J. Scott Elementary School Named Ac2E Elementary Student is Selected Winner National Title I Distinguished School of Scholastic Reading Clubs Drawing Contest

Roma ISD is pleased to announce that F.J. Scott Elementary has been selected for the Distinguished Performance Award by the National Association of State Title I Directors (NASTID)! The award will officially be bestowed at the National Title I Conference in February 2017 in Long Beach, California.

To be eligible for the award, a school must have met the following very rigorous criteria including be a Title I, Part A campus in School Year 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016; have 85 percent or more low income students in 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 20152016; “Met Standard” in state accountability system ratings in

2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 20152016; met system safeguards from 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016; campus is “High Performance Reward” in 20132014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016; and have the highest three-year passing rate for all students in reading and math. F.J. Scott, page 4

Ac2E Elementary would like to congratulate 4th grader, Moniq Lopez, for being named a winner in Scholastic Reading Clubs’ “Picture a President” Drawing Contest. Over 4,000 entries from throughout the country were submitted for this contest, and her portrait of President John Quincy Adams was one of only 40 selected winners. As a winner, Moniq will receive two U.S. History Libraries, one for her and one for her classroom. She will also receive a collection of art supplies. Moniq’s art will be displayed as a part of Scholastic’s Gallery of Winners online in the coming weeks. Thank you to Moniq’s teacher, Ms. Deborah Delano, who encouraged her students to participate in the contest and submitted all entries to the Scholastic Reading Clubs. Outstanding work, Moniq! Congratulations!
