RGCCISD Transportation Department Trained North Grammar Elementary Special Education Staff

Ranchers Round-Up Scheduled An apple is a beautiful thing. This flavor-filled fruit is delicious just the way nature made it, but it also has the possibility to become something arguably more “valuable”, like apple sauce or hard apple cider. For ranchers, adding value to their products means adding revenue to their businesses. This is especially true with the current prices of beef cattle. Adding value and diversifying operations could add a little more money in producer’s pockets. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Starr Soil & Water Conservation District, USDANRCS, Prairie View A&M Cooperative Extension Program and Texas Mexico Border Coalition will be having a Rancher’s Program on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Ociel Mendoza Ranch near Alto Bonito, Texas (Approximately 2.2 miles East of FM 2360 on

the North side of Hwy. 83). The rancher’s program will feature information on ag tax valuations, ag diversification, drone technology, and chronic wasting disease. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 1:00 p.m. with a noon meal sponsored by Medina Electric. The program is free of charge and will offer continuing education units

to those ranchers with a TDA private applicator license. There will also be many door prizes sponsored by Capital Farm Credit and R.Y Livestock Sales, Inc. The sponsors are very excited about this program and hope that you can join them on October 27th. Please call (956) 487-5598 ext. 3 to RSVP. The program is free of charge and is open to all area agriculture producers.

How Alcohol affects the Human Body

When ingested, alcohol passes from the stomach into the small intestine, where it is rapidly absorbed into the blood and distributed throughout the body. Because it is distributed so quickly and thoroughly the alcohol can affect the central nervous system even in small concentrations. In low concentrations, alcohol reduces inhibitions. As blood alcohol concentration increases, a person’s response to stimuli decreases markedly, speech becomes slurred, changes in mood, including anger and irritability, etc. This message is from the Underage Drinking Prevention Alliance and the Starr County Community Coalition

DPS Bolsters School Bus Safety Efforts In conjunction with National School Bus Safety Week (Oct. 17-21), the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging drivers to comply with laws prohibiting the passing of school buses. I AM NOT U.S.S. Restore I AM NOT Team Change I AM NOT a Politician I AM NOT responsible for over 20 years of mismanagement of The RGCCISD, despite what some are trying to make you believe.

I AM • A Rattler (1996 graduate) who was raised and still lives in Gator Nation! I am the proud father of Donovan, uncle to Madelyn and Ava with a vested interest in the future of RGCCISD. • And have been a member of the State Bar of Texas certified by the Supreme Court of Texas to practice law for 10 years; I am not a career politician. My career is not being school board member. • A proud RGCCISD graduate with deep roots in our community. • A candidate that ran on my opponents’ ticket four years ago. They now oppose me because I didn’t participate in their corruption. I believe the community wants to continue to progress forward not return to the good ole’ boy system of the past two decades. • Not ok with the statement “I put a $50 million dollar school in La Grulla and the people there don’t know how to appreciate it.” • The candidate that in the last 4 years has been to more school activities, events, committee meetings than any of my opponents. I have never missed a graduation, I do it because I care about our students. • A leader who will speak up when its right to do so; I am not running to be told how to vote. I don’t need a quarterback calling my plays. I will uphold my oath and keep the interests of RGCCISD first, always.

I am Daniel J. Garcia. I am a parent, former RGCCISD teacher, taxpayer and active member of this community. I humbly ask for your support during early voting Oct. 24 – Nov. 4, 2016 and Election Day, November 8, 2016.

BUS SAFETY

Continued from page 9

following school buses to catch motorists who break the law. Because children are particularly vulnerable when entering or exiting a school bus, Troopers will also be patrolling areas where school buses pick up and drop off students, looking for motorists violating the school bus law. Drivers who violate the law could face fines as much as $1,250. In 2015 and year to date in 2016, Texas Highway Patrol troopers have issued 1,093 tickets for passing a stopped school bus. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, failure to stop for a school bus was a contributing factor in 45 traffic crashes on Texas roadways last year. According to Texas statute, a driver – traveling in either direction – must stop when approaching a school bus that is stopped and operating a visual signal. The driver may not proceed until one of the following occurs: the school bus resumes motion; the operator is signaled by the bus driver to proceed;

or the visual signal is no longer activated. If a road is divided only by a left-turning lane, drivers on both sides of the roadway must stop for school buses with alternating red flashing lights activated. However, if the lanes are separated by an intervening space or physical barrier, only motorists going in the same direction as the bus are required to stop. (As a reminder, school buses, by law, must stop at all railroad crossings.) Here are several safety measures drivers can take to help keep children safer: •When driving in school zones, watch out for student pedestrians. •Slow down and watch for children congregating near bus stops. •Look for children who might dart into the street without looking for traffic. •Know and obey the laws concerning traffic and school buses in Texas. According to the Texas Education Agency, more than 42,000 school buses transport approximately 1.5 million Texas children every school day.
