BY MICHELLE HERBISON BELLARINE Peninsula residents need to shake the belief their police stations must always be staffed, according to a senior cop.

Acting Superintendent Nigel Howard said putting police on the beat rather than behind desks was best.

He was responding to Bellarine MP Lisa Neville raising concerns in parliament last week about a police roster reshuffle.

Ms Neville said a recent report indicating the peninsula was without on-duty police for about five hours on a Saturday night was “totally unacceptable and extremely distressing”.

But Act Supt Howard said police should work from their cars.

“We don’t need people sitting in police stations.

“The community’s got to get away from this idea. We’ve got

to move with the times.”

Act Supt Howard said residents could contact Geelong’s station for police attendance when smaller peninsula police stations were empty.

Police would continue to service the peninsula and a plan to change police rosters for summer aimed to “share the resources we have available”, he said.

“Why do we need a policeman sitting in the station at 7am on a Sunday morning if no one comes in? Would you open your business if you had the data to say you didn’t get any customers at that time?

“The residents of the Bellarine Peninsula and the City of Greater Geelong will not be deprived of policing services. What we’re trying to do is provide the best possible policing services available with the resources available to us at the time.”

Ms Neville in parliament also urged the government to “review a decision to roster Bellarine police in Geelong and Corio and not to provide additional police in Bellarine during the peak summer months”.

“The decision is a short-sighted, cost-cutting exercise that puts at risk the reputation of Bellarine as a safe, peaceful destination.”

Act Supt Howard said Ms Neville’s comments were “a bit misleading” because police would make decisions on a summer staffing plan in August.

The Independent reported this month that a meeting between Geelong police and officers-incharge at peninsula stations revealed a rift in their opinions on a staffing overhaul. Geelong area commander Inspector Gary Bruce said he was reviewing the way police serviced the peninsula to ensure efficiency this summer.

A NEW glossy magazine produced to the “highest standards” is a vote of confidence in the Geelong region, according to its managing editor.

Tony Galpin said Geelong Coast Magazine (GC) was a unique publication for the area.

‘He stole for the dole’

BY MICHELLE HERBISON A FORMER Timber Truss worker stole a nail gun within view of security cameras to lose his job, a court heard on Wednesday.

Mark Brown, 30, of Kosciusko Ave, Corio, pleaded guilty in Geelong Magistrates Court to stealing a nail gun and its charger so he could gain Centrelink payments.

Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Geoff Lamb said Brown stole the nail gun on December 2 and the charger two days later by conceal-

ing them “in his waist”.

“The HR manager became aware of the theft of a nail gun from an office at the South Geelong site,” Snr Const Lamb said.

The court heard Brown admitted to a manager who confronted him that he stole and sold both items.

Brown lost his job before police arrested him on December 13.

Defence lawyer Caetlyn Wells-Simon told the court Brown reacted with “panic” when workmates realised he had previous drug problems.

“He was enjoying work but a few people learnt of his past and he felt pressure to slip into his old ways. His response was to panic.”

Ms Wells-Simon said Brown actually threw the nail gun and charger away rather than sell them because “it’d served its purpose”.

“He could access Centrelink immediately. That’s why he chose to take this action in front of the cameras.”

Brown looked anxious in court, leaning forward on his knees in a seat behind his lawyer.

A psychological report noted that Brown had mental health issues and attended counselling, the court heard.

Ms Wells-Simon said Brown was unemployed and receiving Newstart payments. He lived alone with his dogs, was applying for jobs and remained “drug-free”, she said.

Magistrate Stephen Myall fined Brown $600 and ordered him to pay $780 compensation for the theft.

“This goes to the heart of the employer-employee relationship,” Mr Myall said.

Kinky series boosting sales for ‘adult’ shops LOCAL sex shops have reported a surge of customers requesting fetish items amid the rising phenomenon of a racy new book series dubbed “mummy porn”.

A Sexyland Geelong representative told the Independent she had noted a “definite buzz” around fetish products since the release of the third 50 Shades of Grey book in January.

“We now stock the books because people haven’t been able to buy them in normal bookstores (due to them selling out),” she said.

“I’m actually having customers asking me ‘Can you show me what these are’ and pointing to things mentioned in the book.

“People are coming in not knowing what they’re looking for but they’re curious. It’s taken away the barriers of trying (fetish and bondage) things.”

The trilogy earned the mummy porn description for its popularity among married women aged over 30. The fictional series explores a sexual relationship between manipulative billionaire Christopher Grey and virgin college graduate Anastasia Steele.

The series features graphic scenes involving fetish and bondage acts.

Author EL James penned the novels after adapting a “fan-fiction” series she wrote based on teenage fantasy fiction books Twilight.

A Sexyland head office spokesperson said Geelong sales of fetish products had risen almost 35 per cent.

“Softer” fetish products like “fluffy cuffs” and silk blindfolds were the biggest sellers, she said.

Sarah Baines, of Geelong’s Naughty Gifts, also reported “high demand for fetish wear and gear” in recent months.

The store had to “increase the amount and variety of whips, gags and heavy-metal kind of stuff”, she said.

“We’ve also had specific requests for leather products...and other specialorder items.

“It’s been good for (sales) because there’s not a lot of (local) places that offer that kind of stuff.

People now know they don’t have to go all the way to Melbourne.”

Ms Baines said the store was set to open a “display dungeon” because of fetishism’s rising popularity in Geelong.

Avalon ranked in world’s misleading airport names

BY JOHN VAN KLAVEREN AVALON has been included on a list of the world’s most misleading airport names.

Online flight comparison site Skyscanner cited Avalon for using Melbourne in the airport’s booking name despite being 55km from the city.

City of Greater Geelong strongly lobbied Avalon owner Lindsay Fox and initial tenant Jetstar to name the airport as Geelong.

However, airport chiefs and politicians claimed it had to be identified with Melbourne.

The Skyscanner report said some budget carriers gave airports misleading names linked to distant cities.

“Many budget airlines use secondary airports because of the lower operational costs compared to more central airports, allowing them to offer cheap-

“Unfamiliar travellers might expect the airport to be located in the vicinity of the city.”

Skyscanner Australian market development manager Dave Boyte said regional airports could be convenient for some travellers depending on their final destination.

“However, travellers wanting to reach city-centre locations must factor in the time and transport costs of using a regional airport and compare them to a more central airport.

“If you fly to an airport with Melbourne in its name you’d expect it to be somewhere near the city but 55km isn’t what most would call close.”

Other ambiguous airport names included Paris-Vatry Disney Airport, 150km from central Paris and 112km from the city’s Disneyland park, and Munich’s Memmingen airport, 112km from the city.

Ports Minister Denis Napthine accused opposition counterpart Tim Pallas of a “double backflip� over the Bay West proposal.

Mr Napthine said Mr Pallas had turned his back on development of Port of Hastings for a container facility despite supporting it while in government. “Mr Pallas has walked away from this important development that will secure Victoria’s economic future,� Dr Napthine said. “Flip-flopping and dithering when it comes to planning for Victoria’s freight capacity is par

Mr Napthine said Labor had again proven it was “incapable of managing Victoria’s commercial ports�. “Despite container trade through the Port of Melbourne growing steadily at a rate of six to eight per cent for 17 years, Labor did nothing to address Victoria’s port requirements. “Hastings is a natural deepwater port in close proximity to

the main shipping channels and has an abundance of land that has been zoned for port related purposes for a number of decades.�

In parliament Mr Pallas said industry was “concerned� about the “untested� Port of Hastings plan. “Given the billions of dollars of taxpayers money Mr Napthine is looking to spend it is reasonable that the government produce a cost-benefit analysis to justify their case,� he said. “The Victorian Freight and Logistics Council and the Property Council of Australia have now lined up in support of the consideration of a Bay West option.�

Parks Victoria’s Sue Noonan said GPs and other health professionals were prescribing outdoor exercise to “suitable patients”, particularly diabetics and people with heart conditions, as part of an Active in Parks program.

Ms Noonan said a “highly successful” trial in Geelong last year had led to the program expanding around the region.

“Almost nine million people don’t do enough physical activity on a daily basis because about 90 per cent of daily activities are done indoors.

“We found that connecting with nature decreases stress and other health-related issues.

“Low levels of activity have been linked with conditions like diabetes and heart disease, and these conditions cost govern-

Geelong Taxi Network chief executive officer Peter Valentine said he was â&#x20AC;&#x153;talking to councilâ&#x20AC;? about maxi taxis travelling to homes and more frequently than the Night Rider bus. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re having those people stand around and cause trouble for half an hour while they wait. A marshal on the rank could say â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Six going in this direction, off you goâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;, so it (the maxi taxi service) goes more frequently and where necessary.â&#x20AC;?

Mr Valentine said an Ocean Grovebound night bus now stopped at the townâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s police station after passengers â&#x20AC;&#x153;got off the bus and smashed thingsâ&#x20AC;? when left on the streets while intoxicated.

But drunk, misbehaving passengers should â&#x20AC;&#x153;expect to walkâ&#x20AC;?, he said.

Death, injury: City the worst years age group recorded a “particularly high” increase in serious injuries from 638 to 738 at the end of April, up 16 per cent.

The increase for 60 to 69year-olds was 14 per cent, up from 441 to 503.

TAC chief executive officer Janet Dore urged all drivers to take care.

“These latest figures are a reminder that the road toll is not only about the tragic deaths but also the thousands of people who are seriously injured on our roads each year,” Ms Dore said.

“All of us in the community need to take responsibility for helping reduce the road toll.”

GEELONG is leading the state for road fatalities and is second worst for “serious injuries”, according to latest TAC figures.

The TAC said Geelong recorded 14 fatalities and 231 serious injuries in the 12 months to the end of April.

The only worse municipal area for serious injuries was Casey, with 244.

The TAC defined serious injury as involving admission to hospital within seven days of an accident.

Statewide figures showed a six per cent increase in serious injuries from 5410 to 5721. The five-year average was 5570.

The latest figures were included in the TAC’s latest road safety statistical summary.

The community needed to “work even harder to reduce road trauma”, the TAC said.

One of the largest discoveries in recent times, the prospector made the lucrative find under an old riverbed in Ballarat using a metal detector.

The new gold rush has been stimulated by the price of gold hovering around $1600 an ounce.

Alwin said the club was as much about camaraderie and getting together as it was about finding gold.

Most weekends they will be out in the gold-bearing areas of the state with detectors scouring the ground for nuggets, grains and specks of the precious metal.

Club secretary Alwin Gallina said some members had found “enormous” amounts of gold over the years.

“We have a passion for digging up the dirt – perhaps it’s something relating back to childhood,” Alwin laughed.

A relatively new member, Alwin said he had picked up 50 little pieces of gold in the past 10 months armed with his $4500 detector.

“There’s definitely a technique to detecting and that’s where the experienced old hands come in handy.

“It comes down to perseverance and patience. You won’t pick up ounces of gold in the open field like they used to but there are plenty of stories about prospectors back in the day finding gold everywhere.

“Our club president picked up a gold half sovereign not long ago.

“We’re always finding belt buckles, tokens and buttons.

There’s still plenty of gold but its size has decreased.”

WHEN I heard Simon Crean speak a year ago about carbon tax and compensation, he sounded so confident the Gillard Government had done its sums and there were just a few little wrinkles to be ironed out

by July 1.

Little did I know he was referring to July 1, 2012, not 2011; as his speech indicated.

Now I realise the Government has as little idea of what is going to happen as anyone else in the room.

The due diligence has not been done.

In this awful time of uncertainty I am frightened for my future and would like their assurances – the ones they actually put in writing and not a whole heap of platitudes – that my retirement will be secure.

What of my children and grandchildren for jobs in the future? Will they be able to keep their jobs/businesses and keep paying their mortgages or, as happened under Paul Keating’s Labor government, will everything we worked so hard for go down the drain?

As someone who has always had an optimistic outlook on life, I’m having a hard time believing that what I fear will come to pass will actually come to pass.

It has become painfully obvious that the Government is winging it without any idea what it is doing.

Our lives and futures are being held to ransom by a bunch of incompetents whose only motivation is poncing around on the world stage pretending the world is applauding.

Left cold on facts I’VE GOT to say I finally agree with Alan Barron (Letters, June 1).

Forget global warming, temperatures have been in utter freefall since those unbearable days of 2005. It’s just like last time we got global cooling after 1998 – don’t you remember being absolutely fried that year?

In fact, 2005 was just a small blip in a general temperature downtrend, the CSIRO and everyone else just have no idea what they’re talking about and last week’s maximum temperatures were 14C and it was raining for crying out loud - we even had to use our heater!

It’s a pity we can’t just spew out CO2 via burning heaps of coal to warm things up a bit, since Mr Barron has disproven that CO2 warms the atmosphere anyway.

It gets scary when you think of what might be coming with global cooling but, on the bright side, we’ll get to do lots more skiing!

Change hurts SINCE my last comments on this subject (Independent, May 25), I have keenly observed the debate regarding the Baillieu Government‘s funding changes to Vocational Education and Training (VET).

Last year the TAFE sector overspent by $400 million, an unsustainable amount.

The system was uncapped and open to abuse.

Responsible government requires budgets to be set and met – a concept every mum, dad, household and business understands.

The Lord Mayor of London, bearing a pearlencrusted sword, welcomed the Queen to the city at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Such a sword for Keith Fagg, when he becomes Lord Mayor of Geelong, would be very suitable for ceremonial and other purposes.

Poncing into future

REGARDING a story in last week’s Independent about calls for a new port at Point Wilson, it’s easy to say to build the port but it would be very costly.

As someone with 35 years experience as a dredge master, I would like to make everybody aware that making a deep-sea port on the north side of Corio Bay would involve drilling and blasting because the area is a continuation of the You Yangs.

The price of the deepening would be four times normal dredging and even the most powerful dredge could not manage solid basalt.

Just ask how costly was the Wilson Spit/Point Richards junction.

Much has been made of the cuts but little emphasis has been placed on the $1 billion the Baillieu Government will put into VET, more than any other government has previously invested.

This will mean a real focus on provision of courses and skills desperately needed by industry. These courses translate into real jobs and apprenticeships.

During the adjustment there may be a consolidation of providers to reduce unnecessary course duplication. For example, in some regional areas a number of providers all offer the same course.

The revised approach will bring both higher levels of investment and financial responsibility, which is particularly essential in these days of global financial uncertainty.

The Baillieu Government understands that change is often challenging but vital.

That is why the Government is committed to working with providers to develop quality programs and best outcomes – at a sustainable level.

I look forward to being part of the change and supporting the sector as the Government’s local parliamentary representative in the region.

I WAS disappointed last week’s Independent allowed rumors surrounding the introduction of the carbon tax to be turned into an exercise in frightening small business.

The Independent printed statements by Anne Lockwood, of WHK Day Neilsen, that had little or no basis in fact and without any attempt to provide an alternative point of view.

Ms Lockwood might be sincere in her views or she might have an axe to grind. I think she was just wrong.

I also didn’t see her proposing any alternative.

Practically every other country in the OECD has a carbon trading scheme or is planning to introduce one.

What does Ms Lockwood think Australia should do?

Does she think the cost should simply be forced onto future generations?

READER’S RECIPE > 220g butter, chopped, melted > 4 eggs, at room temperature > 2 3/4 cups self-raising flour > 1 1/2 cups caster sugar > 1 cup sour cream > 1/3 cup Foster Clark’s custard powder > 1 teaspoon vanilla essence > 800g can apple pie fruit > Double thick cream, to serve CRUMBLE TOPPING > 3/4 cup plain flour > 1/3 cup white sugar > 1 teaspoon baking powder > 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon > 75g butter, chilled, chopped

INGREDIENTS (SERVES 12)

1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a 5cm-deep, 20cm x 30cm (base) roasting dish or slab pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, allowing a 2cm overhang at both long ends.

2. Using an electric mixer, beat melted butter, eggs, flour, caster sugar, sour cream, custard powder and vanilla essence for 3 minutes or until pale and fluffy.

3. Pour half the mixture into prepared dish or pan. Spread apple over mixture. Top with remaining mixture.

4. Make crumble topping: Combine flour, white sugar, baking powder and cinnamon in a bowl. Using your fingertips, rub butter into flour mixture until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Sprinkle topping over cake mixture.

5. Bake cake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Serve warm with cream.

Toyota Kluger isn’t a 4WD in the true sense of the term, even in models with all four wheels connected to the engine.

The limiting factor of the Kluger is ground clearance.

Kluger ride height sits about halfway between that of a normal 4WD and a passenger car.

The limiting factor in the Toyota Kluger isn’t traction, which can be surprisingly good for a softroader, but ground clearance which is only about halfway between that of a normal 4WD and a passenger car.

On gentle off-road excursions the Kluger should look after a driver with no real off-road experience.

If you suspect a Prado has been off road, check under the body for signs of damage to the chassis, door sills, protection plates and the bumper lower corners. All are signs of heavyduty use.

While you are under the car look for sand. If you find any, taste it for salt â&#x20AC;&#x201C; indicating the Prado may have been body surfing, something that can lead to rust if any of the body protection has been breached.

The diesel is a modern unit and unless the weather is very cold it will start almost as quickly as a petrol engine.

Be sure that all manual gear changes are smooth and quiet and that an automatic donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t hunt up and down through the gears when you feel it should remain in the one ratio.

BY EWAN KENNEDY uch is the domination by Toyota of the 4WD market in Australia that it has vehicles in more niches than any competitor.

Hence the Toyota Prado, this is a medium-large 4WD that can do a lot more than cart kids and shopping in the mundane suburban commuting runs.

Indeed, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s almost as capable in heavy-duty off-road work than its big brother LandCruiser.

When Toyota Prado was launched in Australia midway through 1996 it was one of the upcoming breed of 4WDs with permanent four-wheel drive.

The advantage of that is improved traction on sealed roads, particularly during wet weather, so itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a useful safety feature.

Toyota Prado immediately carved out a solid niche in the recreational market.

It got a minor makeover for 2000 and the original series (which was actually the second generation Prado â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the first generation wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t sold in Australia) was superseded in February 2003 to be replaced by a virtually allnew model.

That Prado served buyers well until late 2009, when the fourth-generation Prado was introduced, tagged as a 2010 model year.

Spares and repairs, particularly for 4WDs in the bush, are generally readily available.

As thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s plenty of underbonnet space, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s possible to do a fair bit of your own servicing and some minor repairs on a Prado.

But, as always, donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t do anything that can affect safety.

Power initially came from a choice between a two petrol engines: a 2.7litre four-cylinder and a 3.4-litre V6.

Both used twin overhead camshafts and developed good torque for that era.

A 3.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbodiesel option arrived in March 2000

sport Lions to tighten grip on finals GEELONG Football League’s ladder is starting to take formation, with eight sides now in the running to play finals.

Pencil in South Barwon as a definite starter but the other seven are only separated by eight points and, with the season not half way through yet, anything can happen.

Saturday’s games will give a true indication of whether Colac is one of the sides in contention that can actually make it.

The Tigers are on 16 points in eighth position and hanging on to the finals dream by the skin of their teeth. A loss to visiting Leopold this weekend would make reaching the finals virtually impossible.

Lachlan Veale, Luke McGuane and Dan Casey are looking good but there is a real doubt the side can beat teams above it on the ladder.

Leopold is definitely one of them, with the Lions sitting in third spot after a spectacular start to the year.

There was a sign of a chink in the armour last Saturday when West Saints scored an upset victory over Leopold and there will be a worry in the camp that

Travelling down to Colac for the game makes it even more daunting but expect the Lions to strengthen their hold on a top-three spot by winning well.

BFL Bellarine Football League’s ladder jigsaw will come closer to falling into place this weekend, with

These are the only six sides that can play finals this year, so it’s going to be real battle between Amateurs, Modewarre and Drysdale to see who can make up fourth and fifth place to take on Queenscliff, Torquay and Ocean Grove, which are nearly certain to see finals action.

Drysdale welcomes Ocean Grove to Hawk Haven where a win for the home side will be worth gold.

The Hawks have a habit of putting on very good performances and then following up with ordinary ones. Last weekend only a final quarter burst got the side over the line but anything less than a four-quarter effort will see the Hawks nowhere near the Grubbers.

Expect Ocean Grove to take the points but it won’t affect its finals chances a great deal because first placed Queenscliff will beat fourth placed Amateurs and second placed Torquay will account for fifth placed Modewarre.

In all, this round will go no way toward determining the top five but will tell us that the top three sides

are the only ones with any chance of taking out this year’s flag.

GDFL Thomson is showing its Geelong and District Football League rivals a clean set of heels from atop the ladder.

That’s understandable for a side boasting the talents of the MacLeod brothers and Luke Forbes.

Werribee Centrals has the unenviable task of heading to Godfrey Street on Saturday to take on the mighty Tigers in a season-defining game for the Centurions. A loss will make playing finals all the harder, with Werribee currently in seventh spot.

The Centurions will give their all but won’t be up to the challenge.

Anglers get fresh with quality trout catches in region and beyond On the bite BRIAN LONG FRESHWATER locations near and far produced quality trout over the past week.

The trout season closed in streams last weekend but Paul Fraser made the most of his final opportunity while fishing the upper reaches of the Moorabool River. Paul caught and released four fish on small Rapala minnow lures, with his best fish better than 1kg.

I also fished the upper Moorabool, catching reasonable numbers of small browns on a number one Celta in the black colour.

As expected, the lakes produced the best fish.

Mal Stevens reported a fantastic session at Lake Learmonth, near Ballarat, where young son Chase landed three nice rainbows with Powerbait.

Terry Faull also fished Learmonth, having trouble landing his bag limit catch each day of the long weekend on orange Powerbait.

Deep Lake was a little quiet but anglers using Powerbait landed quality rainbow trout better than 2kg. Casting well out produced the best captures.

Nearby, Lake Tooliorook hosted many anglers.

Powerbait again produced results, while trolling took both trout and redfin. Anglers using vibe-style lures while drifting in the boats caught redfin up to 900g.

Xavier Knott fished Ballarat’s Lake Wendouree where shallow-running lures helped him catch and release nine trout all under 1kg.

Lake Bullen Merri produced rainbows around 1kg from the shore for anglers using Powerbait.

Lake Purrumbete generally produces the bigger trout, which was the case when Nathan Welsh landed a big brown of 4.1kg on a Daiwa Double Clutch lure.

Newlyn Reservoir also yielded trout, with Paul Henry’s patience rewarded with three brown trout around 1.5kg weight each. Paul caught his fish on

shallow-running Dorado minnow lures.

In saltwater, Troy Stirling fished Queenscliff’s cut for a catch of six trevally around 900g and two salmon of 1kg. Troy caught his fish on pilchard fillets.

Squid came back on the bite as the water began clearing, with anglers fishing close in to Duck Island taking bag limits of generally small specimens. All the inshore grass beds between Queenscliff and St Leonards should produce good squid fishing in com-

ing weeks, while land-based anglers should look to the piers at Queenscliff and St Leonards.

Great whiting captures continued in the bay.

Quality fish better than 40cm were taken on fresh squid and pippies.

Steven Jacob drifted over the spoil ground off Hermsley to find reasonable numbers of flathead on soft plastics. However, a huge shoal of salmon around 1kg really turned up the action, with Steven taking a fish a cast for over an hour.

Garfish continued holding up in the inner-harbour. North Shore rocks, Cunningham and Fishermen’s piers and Bird Rock were all productive, especially for anglers using berley.

Soft plastics anglers found the fishing generally quiet on Geelong’s waterfront, with only a few small pinky snapper taken. Joel Marshall had just one hit on his Turtleback lure but it was a magnificent 3.2kg snapper.

Boat anglers fishing the deep water directly out from the silos’ piers had better luck, taking fish better than 7kg as reward for long, cold hours of effort.

Many boat anglers concentrated their efforts between Royal Geelong Yacht Club and Cunningham Pier, taking only a few fish.

Trout were liberated into our North Geelong’s Seagull Paddock and Highton’s St Augustine’s lakes this week, giving kids a fantastic opportunity to catch fish close to home. Powerbait and worms will be best for these rainbows.

Down the coast, settled conditions put huge numbers of anglers among the tuna between Warrnambool and Portland. The fish were fickle but very small lures were generally taking a few tuna between 6kg and 15kg.

Surf anglers reported an upsurge in salmon catches between Lorne and Apollo Bay, with the best fishing on the high tides with lures.
