Miracle recovery By Mikayla van Loon When Brian Wiltshire and his wife Robyn left for a day trip with the Ulysses motorcycle club in December 2018, they never imagined their lives would be turned around. An accident that left Mr Wiltshire in intensive care, having suffered two cardiac arrests roadside and with numerous broken bones all over his body, it is a miracle he survived, let alone is almost fully recovered. Ambulance Victoria paramedic Ryan Weston and Air Ambulance MICA paramedic Rupert Freeman reunited with Mr Wiltshire, his wife and friends on Friday 3 June, three and half years after the accident. Mr Freeman said it’s not very often those at the beginning of treating a patient get to see the outcome and he was so pleased to be able to meet Mr and Mrs Wiltshire to see how well they were doing. Had it not been for a local Wandin North resident leaving her house just at the right time, the outcome may have been much different. Deb Harper noticed the motorcycle group looking confused and concerned as she drove past. Knowing she could help in some way, she took over the call to Triple Zero and began doing CPR on Mr Wiltshire. Once paramedics arrived and carted Mr and Mrs Wiltshire to hospital, Ms Harper had no idea if either of them survived. That was until six weeks ago when she received a knock on her front door and welcomed the Wiltshire’s into her home - a reunion that was not short of tears and an overwhelming emotion of gratitude.

roadside more than three years ago. Although still undergoing treatment for his injuries, Mr Wiltshire has practically recovered
and said the accident changed his outlook on life and what matters. Read the full story on page 4
