Dramatic horse rescue A horse has been rescued with the Jaws of Life after it became trapped in a gate in Bunyip. Nar Nar Goon CFA captain Justin Seddon said volunteers were called to the Bunyip Equestrian Centre early hours of Friday 20 January after receiving reports a horse had become entangled in a gate. The horse and owner were participating in a three day camp at the equestrian centre, Mr Seddon said. STORY PAGE 2
ALP names La Trobe candidate A first time candidate has been announced to run as the ALP’s 2022 federal election candidate for the seat of La Trobe. Abhimanyu (Abi) Kumar has run a small construction business for many years but is now turning his attention to politics, stating he wasn’t satisfied with the current leadership in La Trobe. “I think the current government that we have, the current member he demonises too many people and puts people against each other,” he told the Gazette. Goodbye Mum and Dad... hello school Prep students ventured into classrooms across the state from Monday 31 January for the start of the new school year. Gembrook Primary School welcomed two classes of prep students who were full of
excitement to begin their school journey on Monday. Principal Brendan Fitzpatrick said after a challenging two years, it was a “beautiful moment“ to welcome students back on campus.

A fundraiser this weekend at Iona Cricket Club will help raise awareness for the incurable neurological condition Hydrocephalus, inspired by a young Yannathan’s girl’s journey with the rare illness. Two and a half year old Evie Kitchin was
born with Congenital Hydrocephalus, a condition in which an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) occurs within the brain.
