Talks over Big Apple Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) has voted to endorse community consultation and investigation into the potential relocation of the Big Apple, without first notifying the owner of the land it is currently situated on. Two Granite Belt businesses have requested the Big Apple be moved to their individual properties - both of which are located on the New England Highway. Owner of Vincenzo’s Jason Mattiazzi said his family paid for the Big Apple to be relocated to their property in the early 2000s, and SDRC’s failure to communicate their plans has been “very unprofessional”. Buskers return to Stanthorpe
Estate plans Plans for Stanthorpe’s first “age-friendly” gated security estate have expanded to accommodate over-50s, young families and people who require low to high level care. Arcadia Developments National Sales Manager Dianne Fielding said plans are underway for residential aged care facilities to be built on the land adjoining Arcadia Estate. The facilities will be accessible from both the Estate and from Pitt Street, giving people the option to live next door to loved ones who require higher levels of care or to visit from the wider community. “We believe there is a great need for youth care in Stanthorpe,” said Dianne. Plaza fears grow By Jess Baker For years, the Stanthorpe Plaza has drawn complaints of declining conditions, from potholes in the carpark to cockroaches on the floors. But with plans for refurbishment of the
centre finally underway, shop owner tenants fear their rents will be increased to “Brisbane prices” they cannot afford. Owner of SLAPS Coffee House Cafe and extenant at the Plaza Phil Politch said high rent has pushed a number of shop owners out of the Plaza, including himself and wife Lyn.

“We always knew the Plaza was going to do renovations,” said Phil. “Had the rent been respectable, we would have stayed.” Thankfully, Phil said having to leave the Plaza was a blessing in disguise and SLAPS is busier than ever at its new location, but not
