The moment a brazen thief allegedly stole a beer keg and beer taps at The Amazing Grace cafe in Cranbourne has been captured on CCTV. The thief allegedly jumped the fence at the South Gippsland venue during the early hours of Friday 18 January. It came as yet another blow for the caf¨¦, slugged thousands of dollars in repairs after
an intruder broke into the premises within the first six weeks of the restaurant opening last year in March. The latest incident was captured on CCTV cameras where the bandit jumped the fence into the beer garden about 2.30am. “Our car park lights turn off at 2.30am. At 2.31am he came in and then at 3.35am he came back with the bag full of tools and dismantled some beer taps,” owner Paul White said. He said luckily no windows were damaged

What is something people don't know about you? I've done volunteer work throughout different organisations for the last 33 years. I started when I was 11 years old. I can also speak Slovenian. It's priceless seeing people's faces when they have never heard me speak another language. What was your most memorable moment? When both my children were born but also when I've helped two people when I was with St John Ambulance and receiving two thank you cards from both families. One was a newborn that had febrile convolutions and had turned blue on the lips and face and the other from parents of a teenage girl that almost died and almost got brain damage from drinking loads of spirits. Where did you grow up as a child? I was born in Whyalla, South Australia; where the outback meets the sea. What is your favourite movie? Shawshank Redemption, Enemy at the Gates and The Power of One. If you were PM for a day, what would you do? If I was PM for the day I would award my partner Michelle Oakley Mother of the Year because she has always gone above and beyond and looking after the whole family and taking our three year old son Lucas for his regular chemo treatment. Also the parents Pam and Andrew Oakley and my mum Josephine Schafer for the Grandparents of the Year award for helping myself and Michelle out when Lucas has gone in for treatment. At school I...... Get a school routine going early. Summertime schedules are often different than school year schedules, and there's nothing wrong with that. Children do well with routines though, so establishing a school routine early is important. A week before school starts get the children used to waking up at a certain time every day and going to bed at a reasonable time.

Prepare for back to school emotions. Sometimes young children deal with separation anxiety when back to school time rolls around and those feelings are normal. Consider reading up on separation anxiety and how to ease it. Most importantly, you know your child best and you know how to address their concerns.

Get appropriate supplies and gear for your children. Your child's school will likely have a list, so be sure to refer to that. Many schools also have small lists of items to not bring to school. It will help the teachers and students if those lists are adhered to.

IN BRIEF Suspicious car fire Police and emergency services responded to a car fire in Clyde on Tuesday morning, 22 January. Investigators believe a vehicle was parked in the driveway of the Pump House Crescent home. It is believed the vehicle has been set alight by an unknown person around 4.45am. The exact cause is yet to be determined however the fire is being treated as suspicious. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Man arrested in stolen car Police have arrested a man in an alleged stolen vehicle from an address in Cranbourne East on Monday night 21 January. Investigators sighted the vehicle on Bourke Street, Melbourne about 7.30pm. A 21 year-old man from no fixed address was arrested at the scene without incident. The man also returned an alleged evidentiary breath test of 0.07. He has been charged with drink driving, traffic and bail related offences and has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday 22 January. Gone within minutes By Brendan Rees A Clyde North tradie has been left reeling after CCTV captured the moment two brazen thieves allegedly stole his trailer during the early hours of Monday, 14 January. Plasterer Stuart Webster had parked his trailer overnight at the front of his home on Reflections Boulevard. Footage captured two men pulling up in a ute, one carrying what appears to be a pair of bolt cutters as they blatantly approached his trailer about 4.30am. One of the bandits is seen cutting a lock on the tow ball before one wheels the trailer to the ute.
It took less than two minutes for the culprits to hook up the trailer and drive off. Mr Webster, 40, took to social media, appealing for anyone with information and to alert others on Facebook's Casey Crime Page. "I've had a good response from the Casey Crime Page," he said. "People were messaging my inbox - I have been given three names and two addresses which I have forwarded onto police," he said. The trailer is described as a 6x4 charcoal box trailer, worth $1,500. Mr Webster said it was a huge inconvenience as he lost a day's work. "I had to go around and get new tools ... it
was $1,700 and that's not even everything. "I borrowed a trailer off someone for the time being while I go through the insurance," he said. Tools taken were a screw gun, T-squares, trestles, planks, stilts, hammers, battery chargers, batteries, and more. Mr Webster believes the culprits live nearby given the hour of the day. "Maybe they've seen it, you know, drove past," Cranbourne police confirmed the theft and are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Car crashes into neighbouring home Residents of a house were lucky to escape unharmed after a driver crashed into their home in Cranbourne West last Tuesday night, 22 January. Police have been told a car left a premises in Bates Street, went through the front fence, across the road and into the front of a house about 9.20pm. "The car ended up in the lounge room. Fortunately no-one was injured and the investigation into the crash is ongoing," Victoria Police spokeswoman Elaine Cooney said. Fire crews from Cranbourne and Langwarrin fire brigades were also on scene. A CFA spokesperson said no one was trapped, and there were no hazardous leaks from the vehicle.

Police have charged a Cranbourne man following a serious two car collision in Springvale on Monday 14 January. The crash happened at the intersection of Springvale Road and Princess Highway at 4.50am. The 20-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences including drive in a manner dangerous, state false name, driving an unregistered vehicle. He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday 21 January.
Collision leaves two in hospital Two people have been taken to hospital following a two-car collision in Cranbourne West on Wednesday 23 January. Police say it's understood a car was travelling along the Western Port Highway near the intersection of Hall Road when it veered onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with an oncoming vehicle. The male driver and sole occupant of the first car was taken to hospital, however his condition is not known at this stage. Police say the female driver of the car struck was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Ambulance media spokeswoman Lana Wilson said paramedics assessed two people at the scene, a man in his fifties and a woman in her sixties at the scene. "The man was taken to Frankston Hospital in a critical condition with a medical condition," she said. "The woman was taken to The Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with a spinal injury." Police are investigating the cause of the collision. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Ray rolls into town City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon with members of the CHARM Vic Inc and other community groups involved with organising the Cranbourne Australia Day event.
By Brendan Rees Reverend Ray McCluskey has been announced as the new minister for Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church. Rev McCluskey, who prefers to go by the name Ray, was inducted during a ceremony held on Thursday 17 January. He takes over the reins from outgoing Reverend Ineke Giles. Ray said he was honoured in his new role and spoke of his excitement to serve the Cranbourne community. "My style of leadership and ministry I hope is one that is very relational but also consultative," he said. "The real growth of the church is going to happen through empowering people and resourcing other people to do ministry. "They've got this incredible outward facing ministry with the Food Truck which engages not only church people but also the wider community." Ray was a chaplain at Monash Uniting Church where he says there were 23 different language groups. "I'm hoping my experience with Monash will stand me in good stead," he said. He said he was impressed with the "incredible outward facing ministry" with the Food Truck which "engages not only church people but also the wider community." "It's just wonderful to come into the community and see that happening." He completed his ministry training as a mature age adult at Pilgrim Theological College, which is a member college of the University of Divinity. "I started training when I was 53. I was the administration and marketing manager at a company called Aussie Broadband," Ray said. "I saw the call in my life in God to go and serve so I went to my managing director and thought I was mad. I did two years doing lay

IN BRIEF Armed robbery investigation An armed robbery occurred outside the entrance to the cinemas at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre on 5 January about 4.20pm. Two victims had their phones and other items stolen. The offenders, who were wearing a blue and white Toronto Maple Leaf hockey jersey and the other a blue Barcelona Football Club Nike jacket, walked from Fountain Gate to Narre Warren Railway Station about 5.10pm where they were arrested by PSOs and the stolen items were recovered. The alleged offenders, a 17-year-old boy of no fixed place of abode was remanded and has since been placed on a good behaviour bond for 12 months, the other alleged offender, an 18-year-old man from Clyde North will have his matter heard at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in April. Police are appealing for anyone else who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

To err is human I was interested to read the story “Among state’s best” beside the picture on the front page of this week’s Cranbourne Star News, but I wondered what the ‘Imitative of the Year Award’ was about, and what they were ‘imitating’ ? Turning to page 7 as instructed, I learned that the award was for Local Government Initiative in Sport - which I do understand, and well done to the City of Casey for catering for youth sport. Incidentally, many years ago, I played cricket at Catani with a Noel Duyvestyn - and I think he had a wife called Elaine. Maybe she is the lady who is being considered for an award for her contribution to softball? I only bump into Noel very occasionally these days. Then I read the "In brief” column on page 3, only to find that the first story about a P plate driver being clocked at 188 km/h is also the third story. Was it a slow week in local crime? At least we might be glad that no one was killed in these traffic violations. And I am pleased that ‘In Brief’ on page 7 has two different stories. I have been reading your papers since we first received the “Pakenham Gazette“ when I began teaching at Bayles P.S. in the early ‘70s and later at Kooweerup - and the Editor was the late Herb Thomas. His wife did the proof reading - and I don’t think she would have let these two errors pass through. We have told many people of the journalism awards that the Gazette has won and what an excellent local newspaper it was. We do hope that the Thomas standards are not dropping? Do the crime ... With regard to your story “Outrage over parking fines’ (Berwick Star News, Thursday, 17 January). How can the parking signs be confusing or deceiving, when they clearly state that there are 'no stopping’ restrictions from 7.30am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday? If you choose to disobey a parking sign, by either stopping or parking in this area, then you deserve to be caught and fined! It is not an excuse to say that others do it, so I’m going to as well. Majors Christine and Michael Wright were inducted as the new corps officers in front of about 40 people during a ceremony held on Sunday 20 January at the Cranbourne Salvation Army Corps. They replace outgoing Major Alison Eastley. "We are excited to be here in Cranbourne as the corps officers of the Salvation Army Cranbourne," the couple said. The married couple have a combined 22 years service with the organisation and previously lived in Bundoora, working in a central Melbourne role. "Having arrived in the role on Wednesday the 16 January 2019, we are in the early stages of assimilating with the corps community and understanding the needs of the local area.
"The Salvation Army is in a new space nationally and the way forward for all our expressions of ministry and mission is about integration and greater impact. We will be working to develop our local strategies to assist people to find wholeness and recognise the relevance of Jesus in their lives," they said. Michael and Christine have had involvement in many Corps (churches), in their training college, and in divisional leadership roles in Tasmania and Victoria. "Our most recent appointment was as area officers for mission expressions in the city of Melbourne and western suburbs, where we had the privilege of working alongside many dedicated and compassionate people." City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon said the couple were fantastic people and the community was blessed with their arrival. "God bless these two leaders in their ministry and in this wonderful church," she said on Facebook.

Minister for Solar Homes Lily D'Ambrosio said around 1600 households had already received a rebate, with many more solar installation projects underway, generating thousands of jobs across the state. Since the Solar Homes Package was launched, 161 households in Clyde North and 98 in Cranbourne East have installed solar panels. "We promised to put power back in the hands of Victorians and that's exactly what we're doing - helping people take control of their energy costs and make a real difference to the state's long-term energy future," Ms D'Ambrosio said. "Our Solar Homes program has already proved to be tremendously popular and is helping Victorians to save hundreds of dollars a year on their energy bills. "We're also expanding the Solar Homes to include rental properties, hot water systems and battery installations - giving Victorians a fair go and helping the environment." The Solar Homes package provides up to $2225 to support the installation of solar panels. The Solar Homes Package includes: $1.24B for solar panels on 650,000 homes. $60M for solar hot water for 60,000 homes. $40M to support the purchase of batteries for 10,000 homes. $82M for solar panels on 50,0000 rental homes.

TOORADIN TRACTOR PULL
Bumper crowds lap it up By Brendan Rees Rev heads were in their glory, indulging in the horsepower and the smell of burning rubber at the weekend's Tooradin Tractor Pull and Truck Show. Held at Rutter Reserve on Saturday 19 January, the event was packed with thrilling activities including modified tractor pulling as well as vintage tractors and junior mower pulling. Up to 6000 enthusiasts of all ages started pouring through the gates at 10am under blue skies. Attractions also included helicopter rides, vintage tractor pull, classic cars, hot rod show, amusement rides, live music, trade stalls and food outlets. Tooradin Tractor Pull president Allyn Reeve said the event was very successful with the turn-out being the "best on record by far."
"We had 100 trucks, 20 vintage tractors that gave demonstrations, and we had 36 modified tractors. Throughout the day we had the burnouts - I think we had six top of the range burnout cars," he said. "We had the flames throwers there up the side of the track. We had a jet-powered ute which drove up and down the track; fires up the jet engine and shoots the flame out the back." "It was a ripping day," he added. All proceeds from the not-for-profit event was organised by a committee of community-minded volunteers to raise much-needed funds for local clubs, schools and various charities. It will be a hippy new year for orthopaedic patients in Melbourne’s South-East. Orthopaedic care is expanding in Berwick with St John of God Berwick Hospital set to open a brand new unit specialising in treating injuries and diseases of the body’s musculoskeletal system. A first for the hospital, the new orthopaedic unit will open in February and is currently recruiting compassionate caregivers to join its growing team. The fourth-floor ward has been left empty since the opening of the new hospital in January 2018 to accommodate future growth. It was not anticipated to be needed for the first few years of operation; however, local demand has seen it necessary to offer further orthopaedic services to the residents of Melbourne’s southeast. The ward has the capacity for 28 beds and will primarily focus on orthopaedic and neurosurgical patients. The new unit sees the beginning of an emphasis on orthopaedic services. The hospital’s MAKO robot, currently used for partial knee replacements, will be utilised for full knee replacements in 2019. “It is reassuring for local patients to know that not only do they have access to this technology so close to home, but they can access rehabilitation under the same roof,” a St John of God spokesperson said.

Buckley’s uncertain future By Nick Creely Dandenong District powerhouse Buckley Ridges faces an uncertain future and increased pressure from council to relocate in the coming years after safety concerns were raised due to the overlapping of its home base, Park Oval, and the adjoining oval, Wilson Oval. Park Oval - one of the iconic grounds in the association, is laced with history - but has come under scrutiny for the size of its oval, with the Pultney Street ground located just outside of Shepley Oval. It is understood that council initially advised the club at a meeting on the morning of Thursday 17 January that they would be relocating to nearby Greaves Reserve 4 as of the weekend for a select amount of matches, to alleviate concerns that someone would be hit by a cricket ball playing on the overlapping oval.When given the chance to defend the club, De Silva highlighted several factors, such as the fact that the two clubs have played side by side for three decades, citing issues with other grounds in the Metro region, the extremely strong junior program that has been developed, as well as a lease agreement for the year and their successful refugee program as reasons why they should not be booted out. The council had a follow up meeting that afternoon, and advised the club shortly after that they would try and work together to mitigate the risks so it won't disrupt the current season, in which the Bucks are absolutely flying, particularly in Turf 1. On the next day, the council contacted the club to advise that they will remain at their iconic home, for at least this season, however. De Silva told Star News Group that the club was disappointed with the entire process, but confirmed that cricket wouldn't be impacted

by the club prior to Dandenong's thirds and fourths, but admitted the future of the powerhouse is in the air, with the club seeing its long-term future being in the City of Casey, and admits there's a range of different possibilities about where the club could land. "We'll keep fighting as we go along - the future is really uncertain," he said. "We've approached Casey council, and they won't put on turf grounds for 10 years - but we see our future in the Casey area. "We feel we can add value by bringing in a powerhouse club, with our systems and struc-
tures - we can do a lot more to the community than where we are now." De Silva also said that finding a solution will be a long process, with potential moves to Greaves Reserve or a merger with a fellow DDCA club all possibilities. "We have to consider it (moving to Greaves Reserve) - our clubhouse and practice area isn't the best, but we have a lot of resistance from the membership, and we understand where they're coming from, but it comes down to the council if they won't give us another lease," he said. "There's a lot of DDCA clubs that are struggling in Dandenong, so there could be a merger opportunity, I'm open to everything. "But it is also a membership that I have to convince, and it's hard, because there's history and love for the place (Park Oval)." Director of Community Services for the City of Greater Dandenong, Martin Fidler, said that the council simply complied with Cricket Australia guidelines. "To ensure compliance with the Cricket Australia Community Infrastructure Guidelines, council undertook an audit of all cricket grounds in the municipality," he said. "As a result of the audits council met with three local cricket clubs to discuss the outcomes of the audit and to discuss options for allowing the continuity of play for the existing season. "Council is committed to working with the clubs and has not directed or requested that the clubs move or reschedule games. Options have been discussed with the clubs to ensure the games for the remainder of the current season can continue at existing grounds and council and the clubs are meeting to discuss longer term solutions for the next season."

Swans continue fine form By Nick Creely "I don't think we've put together a complete package of a performance yet, with both bat, ball and in the field, yet we're still winning games." Casey-South Melbourne skipper Luke Wells certainly has the confidence that the Swans can knock over anyone on their day, and when his group does fully gel, look out. The seventh placed Swans landed yet another scalp on Saturday, further reinforcing their stunning improvement by putting together their most "professional" performance of the year against Northcote at Bill Lawry Oval. Off the back of their gun skipper - who compiled another stellar 87 off 112 balls - the Swans won the toss and posted a healthy 8/227 off their 50 overs on a slow pitch. The Swans got off to a bright start by compiling 42 for the first wicket, but consistent wickets dented their progress, before a late charge from Wells, Jordan Wyatt (23) and Devin Pollock (26) got the visitors into a defendable position. But it was with the ball that Wells' group once again impressed, defending their modest total for the second week in a row to restrict the Dragons to 221 after bowling them out in the final over of the day. In a stunningly even bowling effort, Jackson Fry (2/53) removed dangerous openers Solomon Mire (21) and Mark Phelan (55), Josh Dowling (2/55) did a fine job through the middle to continue his great season, while spinners Lachie Sperling (2/37) and Wells (1/35) each kept things tight too, and managed to snare three wickets between them. But, once again, spearhead Nathan Lambden's (3/36) brilliant form came to the fore, finishing off the game like gun bowlers do, to surge into 12th on the Premier Cricket wicket list. The big quick now has 20 wickets at 22.9, with an impressive strike rate of 33.5 "I feel like he's made a lot of progress, and he's adapting his game to conditions really well," Wells said of Lambden's season.
"For example on the weekend, the pitch was particularly suited to slower balls, so for a guy who wants to bowl as fast as he can, he bowled a load of slower balls, and got the rewards." After another close win - one that sees them move to a 7-3 record and within five points of Melbourne Uni in fourth - Wells praised the bowlers for their performance, and said that the recent close victories and the ability to defend any score is pleasing. "It's been good, and pretty stressful, I wouldn't mind a low maintenance, less stressful win, but we've defended well so far in the oneday stuff," he said with a chuckle. "We've got reasonable totals together without necessarily getting a match-winning one, so we've worked hard to defend those scores around the 230 mark - we've got a good blueprint at the moment, Nathan Lambden and Jacko Fry have bowled well up top, Josh Dowling as first change seamer has been good, and Lachie (Sperling) and myself have both been pretty economical. "I feel like the guys are learning a lot - although (Saturday) it was tight, I felt that we were the most professional while I've been out here, to be fair. It's been really pleasing." Wells said that the Swans will only get better as the red-ball cricket starts to heat up again, and can't wait to see what his group can produce in the back-end of the season. "We're a really talented group, and winning's a habit, and so is losing, so the guys just expect to win, and they know what they need to do to win," he said. "We've taken down some top teams - we beat Fitzroy, almost beat Dandenong in a two-dayer, beat St Kilda and other sides, and it proves that on our day, we can beat anyone in the league. "I'm looking forward to getting into the twoday stuff, we've played a lot of one-day cricket - I feel like we're potentially a better two-day outfit." The Swans will travel to take on Melbourne Uni on Saturday for a two-day game, in a massive clash for both sides.

Panthers surge forward By Nick Creely and Hayley Wildes WGCA PREMIER DIVISION REVIEW - ROUND 10 Devon Meadows emerged as the big winners of the round, surging into fourth spot, displacing Tooradin after a barnstorming victory against Upper Beaconsfield. The Panthers taught the Maroons a stern lesson after winning the toss and electing to bat. Contributions from Luke Hamilton (42) and Kyle Salerno (30) saw the home side reach an imposing 214. While the Maroons battled to contain the firepower of the Panthers, Kyle Gibbs (2/20) and Daniel Brennan (2/35) finished with impressive figures. The Maroons were unable to recover after their 2/13 start, with Dodd (3/20), Lucas Carroll (2/9) and O'Connor (2/18) doing a fine job, rattling through the visitors for just 94. Tooradin was stunned by an excellent bowling display from Kooweerup quick Tiron Fernando (4/27), who helped the visitors restrict the home side to just 9/126. Mark Cooper's side were dealt with a couple of early wickets, but young guns Tyler Clark (44 not out) and Mitch Cammarano (36 not out) showed great poise to help guide the Demons to a comfortable six-wicket win. Pakenham stamped their authority with a brilliant performance against a struggling Cardinia - the Bulls were resigned to their third straight defeat. The Lions bowled superbly, rolling the visitors for just 90, with Troy McDermott (4/21) in fine touch. It took a mere 63 balls for the Lions to claim victory, with Ben Maroney (69) guiding the home side to a comfortable victory. Clyde defeated Merinda Park at home to continue to place pressure on the top four. After sending the Cobras in, Nick Sadler (1/23) shattered the stumps of Daniel McCalman off just the second ball of the match and the visitors soon found themselves 7/69 after Matt Aslett (5/27) tore through the middle order. A brilliant 69-run stand from Leigh Paterson (48) and Mathew Campbell (49) for the 10th wicket saw the Cobras somehow reach 177. The Cougars couldn't have got off to a worse start, losing Brett Reid, John Simpson and Daniel Walton in the opening overs to be 3/5, but skipper Kiefer Peries (40) got the innings back on track. Jason Hameeteman (61) and Kane Avard (60) brought the target within reach. A massive six from Sadler eventually secured the Cougars the points in the final over of the match. DISTRICT DIVISION Cranbourne Meadows' perfect season continued in round 10, easily accounting for Tooradin.
The Rebels (6/268) were led by Sibghat Ullah (52) and Kulith Rabel (46 not out) and had the Seagulls on the back foot all innings. Tooradin (7/176) got strong middle order contributions from David Freeman (37) and Ned Harrison (33), but their run rate was never going to be enough. NNG/Maryknoll scored a win over Cardinia. The Bulls chose to bat first and would immediately regret that decision, losing two wickets before getting off the mark as Dean Henwood (3/18) did the damage early and the Bulls could only muster a total of 146 as Travis Gray (4/31) ran riot. In reply, the Marygoons - despite losing early wickets - claimed the win as Scott Hayes (64 not out) led NNG/Maryknoll (6/148). A Mitchell Copey masterclass led Emerald (5/268) to a big win over Clyde (177). The Bomber opener was simply dominant as he smashed his way to 108 off 107 balls, including 16 fours and a six. Copey combined with Mark Alenson (45) for a 116-run stand. In reply, Clyde had batsmen get off to starts - led by Warwick Weir (45) and Zac Davis (32) but it wasn't enough as Sam Stapleton (3/31) and Ashley Hill (3/35) claimed key wickets. A batting collapse from Carlisle Park (97) saw Officer (2/98) claim an easy win. The Vikings batted first and lost their final seven wickets for just 38 runs as Shaun Weir (3/12) and James Quinn (3/15) did plenty of damage. The Bullants paced their run and did it easy as Ash Smith (41 not out) and Peter Quinn (28 not out) led them to victory.

Cranny legends watch on BERWICK BOWLS Round 13 of pennant bowls was played on Saturday, once again under perfect blue skies. Five sides were victorious from Berwick this round. Congratulations to the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th sides on their victories. Unfortunately, the Sixes were unable to maintain their winning streak, succumbing to the Dandenong Club. The Ones and Twos were also defeated, away from home, and the Eights had a bye. The Best winning rink of the round, with +32 shots, from Side 9 was the team of: Alf Reina, Chris Jones, Jan Lapinskas and our youngest Skip, Mitchell Keel. Side 9 also came away with the Johnny Boys Pizza award. RESULTS Side 1 - Berwick were defeated by Pakenham, 95-60 Side 2 - Berwick were defeated by Mentone, 80-73 Side 3 - Berwick defeated Keysborough, 93-69 Side 4 - Berwick defeated Moorabbin, 75-64 Side 5 - Berwick defeated Mentone, 106-60 Side 6 - Berwick were defeated by Dandenong Club, 95-63 Side 7 - Berwick defeated Beaumaris, 85-60 Side 8 - Berwick - BYE Side 9 - Berwick defeated Pakenham, 102-55 CRANBOURNE Club legends Allen Mickle and Ray Boskell watched the Cranbourne number one side compete against top four side Edithvale on Saturday, hoping that the home side could get the job done. These two champions have shared a lot of success over their many years of association with the club. In fact, the two of them have won four club pairs championships; 1991, 1993, 1996 and 1997, Allen was club singles champion in 1993, while Ray was singles champion in 1988 and 1994. The club was hoping that their past success would rub off on the Cranbourne side, but unfortunately Edithvale was the better side on the day, despite sharing wins on two rinks each. The next two Cranbourne sides also went down but the remaining sides had victories. During the week, the ladies Division 1 side game was called off due to extreme heat on the day, so they had to share the points but still remain on the top of the ladder. Side 1 - Division 2 Skip Frank Byrne had a good hard fought win by three shots, backed up by good form from teammates John McKenna and Shane Morrison. Skip Barry Thomas got up by oneshot on the last end, but the deficit remained at 20 shots. Cranbourne 65 (four points) lost to Edithvale 85. Side 2 - Division 3 Skip Peter Colthup and his team of Gary Farrington, John Stanley and Maree Taylor won by seven shots and almost single-handedly pulled off victory. Sofio has won the highest winning margin at the club four weeks running - who can stop him? Sofio was very pleased with his team; Helen Witherden, Bob Pyne and Rob Dickson, which won by 13 shots. Not only did Sofio have a good day but the side picked up another valuable 18 points in victory. Cranbourne 89 (18 points) defeated Carrum 61. Side 5 - Six-a-side This was a tight game that could have gone either way, but fortunately Cranbourne won by one-shot. Skip John Forsyth and his rink of Graeme Robinson and Jess O'Dea finished the game three shots up. Cranbourne 32 (12 points) defeated Waverley Park 31. NARRE WARREN It was different week for Narre Warren bowlers this week, with Tuesday pennant was called off
due to the extreme heat rule by Bowls Victoria. Both Division 2 and 3 teams shared the points when the temperature reached 36 degrees at lunchtime. Division A (six-a-side) had already received a walkover. On Saturday, the Division 3 team was the only winner. Against Chelsea at Fountain Gate, Erik Luyters, Colin Groom, Arthur Scheurer and Jim Millar led the way with a 33-15 win, helped by Joe Selfridge, Reg Young, Rod Lane and Cam Lee (25-22). Eric Sydenham, Zade Bulmer, Iain Stevenson and Wilma Stevenson had a 19-all draw, but John Wright, David Entwistle, Percy Herath and Zak Storm lost 2615. Narre Warren (1) 15-92 defeated Chelsea (1) 3-82. Division 4 travelled to Parkdale and had a disappointing three-shot loss. Stan Birkett, David Wilkinson, Geoff Miller and Ralph Devonshire had a 24-12 win, but Wilma Haringsma, Peter Castricum, Philip Howard and John Zanon (28-16), Keith Mark, Jim Kempf, Mark Groom and Norm Hosmer (21-15) and Graham Dodd, Peter Lister, Stan Robinson and Carl Lapham (24-17) all lost narrowly. Narre Warren (2) 2-72 lost to Parkdale (2) 16-75. Division 5 played at Vermont South and also had a narrow loss. Storm finishes year on a high Gippsland Storm Elite Development Netball Club had their second season finals just before the Christmas break to conclude the 2018 season on a high, with six of the seven teams making finals. The Open team made it to the semi-final but came up against a tough opponent who didn't give them an inch. The under 13 and all under 15 teams made it through to the Grand Finals which was an amazing effort in itself. The under 13 team battled hard and were only a couple of goals difference at every change but in the end they finished as runners up. The 15 and under two and four teams, both claimed big scalps in their semi-finals but they played out of their comfort zone, couldn't settle in the Grand Final, both finishing as runners up. The 15 and under one and two squads for Storm, both controlled their games from start to finish and came away as Grand Final winners.
