Olivia’s prize surprise

Olivia Mazzone was surprised and grateful when she was announced she was the winner of the inaugural Peebles Print Prize. “I was excited to be selected, it was a great achievement considering the high standard of entries from both established and emerging artists," Olivia said. “I did a workshop with Graham Peebles at Queenscliff Gallery and Workshop last year and I love Graham’s work." Olivia’s winning entry has been sold and the generous $4000 sponsorship, donated by 360Q’s Barry Iddles, will be invested in new equipment The exhibition, that runs until 10 September, provides an opportunity for visitors to the gallery to vote for their favourite exhibit. The winner of the People’s Choice award will get $750. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for $5 each. The full proceeds from these tickets will be shared equally between the two selected causes and three ticket holders will win the three prints by Graeme, Adam and Anita.
‘Pull out all stops’ Liberal Western Victoria Region MP Simon Ramsay has raised concerns in the Victorian Parliament about VicRoads’ preferred option for the Drysdale Bypass. The option is expected to have three intersections with modulated traffic lights which could almost negate the benefit of having a bypass at all.
Ramsay MP says lights not an option Mr Ramsay said the Liberal Party supported the bypass concept which was designed to remove traffic from the congested High Street in Drysdale. The bypass was intended to provide a traffic corridor with a smooth flow of
traffic and free-up the Drysdale town centre making it safer and retail friendly. “The VicRoads bypass model favours controlled intersections rather
than roundabouts," Mr Ramsay said. “However, having three sets of traffic lights on three intersections within 800 metres will defeat the purpose and most likely encourage motorists and
heavy vehicles to seek alternate roads. At the very least, I call on VicRoads to consider that if traffic lights are to be used, that they are peak flow controlled and allow a smooth travel route with little interruption for commuters travelling along the Portarlington Road seeking destinations beyond the Drysdale town limits."
