Crash car hits three homes An airborne car ploughed into three houses in Clifton Springs during a single-car crash Saturday morning 14 January. Police believe the car was travelling along Bay Shore Road when it lost control and struck a house about 7.35am. The car hit the neighbouring house before coming to rest in the front of a third. The crash trapped the male driver and single occupant of the car for some time. Emergency services freed the man and treated him on the scene, before flying him to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries. The crash caused minor damage to the first house and extensively damaged the front of the second house. No-one was home at any of the houses when the incident occurred. Geelong Highway Patrol was investigating the crash and was yet to determine the “exact circumstances” surrounding it. Police urged witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Each step a winner A new community event for the Bellarine will help tackle the stigma of mental illness and raise awareness of Bellarine Community Health’s Youth Services. Organisers of the Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run are launching a new four-kilometre walk as part of the program for the 11 February event in Portarlington. “One in four young Australian’s between the ages of 12 and 25 deals with mental health issues at some stage and sadly only one in four of those will seek help,” said Dion Milne, founder of the Sunset Run. “The 4km ‘Walk for Head Space’ aims to highlight those statistics and make society more aware of mental

health issues amongst young people.” The 4km walk has been added to the existing 10km and 21km events, with funds raised from the walk donated to Bellarine Community Health’s Youth Services programs. BCH has dedicated youth health and mental health support services at its Drysdale site between the secondary colleges. In partnership with headspace Geelong, young people can access a range of health advice, support and information under the one roof. “The support from the organisers of the Bellarine Sunset Run is just wonderful,” Bellarine Community Health’s acting CEO Michael McAlister said. “We are very grateful that a commu-

nity group wants to help highlight the mental health risks for young people and help us promote the many services that we offer to youth on the Bellarine.” “We are encouraging families to get out there and do the walk together as there are huge mental health benefits from exercise,” Mr McAlister said. In a bid to encourage young people to participate, entry for the 4km walk is free for children aged 12 and under. All walkers will receive a participation medal.
