Region shows off its best in

spring SPRING is just a special time of the year, isn’t it? For many, many reasons, but mostly because you want to come out from your winter hiding and again explore the outdoors. But with so many options out there in the Yarra Ranges, how do you go about deciding the best way to spend your springtime? Just flick through the pages of ‘Tourist News’, of course. To give you a nudge in the right direction, we at ‘Tourist News’ have compiled a feature-packed list of attractions for you to explore and enjoy. Firstly, we couldn’t forget the many inspirational gardens around the region, so we’ve got that covered, including the wonderful Alowyn Gardens (our front cover). Also, we were inspired by the continued rise in popularity of op-shopping, so we’ve mapped out a suggested route so you can tour op-shops in the Yarra Ranges. So not only will you be helping out the community, you can find a bargain while really developing a connection with the many fantastic towns. And who knows, you might even end up setting trends in spring fashion 2016. This spring, it would be remiss of ‘Tourist News’ not to highlight the many U-pick options. For those now familiar with the U-pick concept, it’s simply as the name suggests – you wander into one of the many fantastic farms in the area and pay to take your fill of delicious varieties of fruit – many of which you might not find at the supermarket. Again, we’ve made a big effort to be inclusive when it comes to tourism, so we’ve got a feature on a start-up tour operator who is catering for the elderly and less mobile. Let’s not forget the region plays host to many hugely popular markets and wineries, which are all ripe for some springtime fun. Peter Douglas Editor

Fruit

Open spaces

ON your way through Coldstream, stop by some of the many fruit farms along the highways and the back roads to get your fill on fresh produce. Yarra Valley Gateway Estate has u-pick options, as does Big Fella Cherries later in the year, among other farms in the area. A truck-stop near Lilydale on the Maroondah Highway often has fruit vendors for a last-minute shop.

THERE are many open spaces for visitors to explore in Coldstream. The Margaret Lewis Reserve is a wildlife habitat which was once a farming property owned by Margaret Lewis - the reserve is a great place to go for a walk, and is an off-leash area for dogs to explore. A playground and barbecue are available for visitors. And near the town’s football oval are a newly-built skate park and playground.

Adventure

Warramate Hills Nature Conservation Reserve

Trash and treasure

WARRAMATE Hills is a short drive out of Coldstream, into Gruyere, but is well worth the trip. The reserve is a great place to go for bush walks surrounded by nature on a spring day. Mobile reception is patchy at best, so remember to bring supplies, including water, sturdy shoes, ample food and sun protection.

THOSE after a bargain can visit the Yarra Ranges Recycling Services’ Treasure Chest Recycled Goods shop in Coldstream at the Waste Transfer Station at the corner of Ingram and Leonard Road – a myriad of interesting items are on offer, with anything, including the kitchen sink, up for sale.

COLDSTREAM has much to offer, with two nearby airports providing flights and skydiving opportunities over the Yarra Valley. Anyone after a less adrenalinefilled way of seeing the valley from the sky can also book a hot air balloon trip in advance and float above the area, before stopping in at one of the many wineries for breakfast or a glass of bubbly – as well as a segway trip through the vines.

PROFILE

The duo we’re

famous for BY JESSE GRAHAM THE two things the Yarra Valley is never short on are coffee and wine, and there are places around every corner serving up a warm cuppa or a glass of red (or white). But there is a great deal of work that turns the grapes in vineyards into the beautiful wine the valley is renowned for, and a team of workers that make it happen. Marc Lunt, chief winemaker at Coldstream’s Rochford Wines, is the head of one such team, which was recently rewarded with a Decanter Gold Award for its Dans les Bois pinot noir. He said that his family visited wineries when he grew up near South Australia’s Barossa Valley, and from an early age wanted to make wine. “Ever since I was maybe 10 years old, it was all I ever wanted to do,” he said. “So I’ve been pretty lucky, in that respect.” His first job was at South Australia’s Primo Estate in the 1990s, before studying at university and working at other wineries in Australia and in France in the following years. “Obviously, with wine, there’s a huge connection with France,” Mr Lunt said. “A lot of young winemakers go over and do one or two harvests – I’ve done eight or nine. It just gets in your blood; you want to do it all the time.” He said the philosophy behind winemaking at Rochford was reflective of what he’d learnt overseas. “Obviously a lot of the basic stuff is the same, but you learn more – just different techniques and there’s a lot of discipline in French wineries.

Rochford Wines chief winemaker Marc Lunt with the 2015 Dans les Bois pinot noir. Picture: JESSE GRAHAM You certainly don’t spill any wine,” Mr Lunt said. “I don’t know whether it harks back to the military, when they used to do military training at 17 years old – it’s really quite regimented and strict, and it’s all about technique.” Mr Lunt has been at Rochford Wines since 2011, and the winery, as with many others around the valley, is a destination for tourists passing through and residents after a fine drop. OP SHOPS

The opportunistic

attraction

BY KATH GANNAWAY IT’S right there in the name – OPPORTUNITY shop! For some tourists, they’re the incidental discovery as they make their way between galleries, wineries, festivals and other events and attractions. For die-hard op-shoppers, they are the destination. Almost every town or village in the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley has one or more opportunity shops supporting their local communities, schools, churches, hospitals and other worthy causes. They plough hundreds of thousands of dollars back into local economies and provide an affordable alternative for anyone finding it hard to make ends meet ... but they are also a growing attraction in their own right. An op-shop bargain is no longer hidden away. It’s a badge of honour to get a great op-shop bargain, and word soon spreads as to where the interesting, the cheapest, the friendliest shops are. You won’t find any two the same, and you just never know what you’ll discover. Everything from plants and preserves to antiques, jewellery, clothing, toys and books. Forgot the barbecue tools? Or need a warmer jumper ... any op-shop will have you sizzling as planned, and a whole lot warmer than you might have been otherwise! One of the unexpected consequences of popping into a local op-shop is that you can almost guarantee the staff (volunteers) will be able to let you in on some other ‘best of’ attractions – the best walk, the best cafe, the best lookout ... the best of everything! So, if you’re looking for a bit of retail therapy as part of your visit to the hills and valley townships, don’t walk past the local op-shop. You know you want to!!

HANDCRAFTS

Handcrafted gifts galore YARRA Valley Gifts offers unique opportunities for gift-hunters due to its availability of Australian-made and local ware. The popular business, owned by Liz Lucas, offers 75 per cent of local and Australian-made products, in addition to providing tourist information on the area. “We offer something different to the usual gift shop by promoting mostly local and Australian-made wares,” she said. “The Visitor Information stand is located at the back of the shop, offering maps and flyers of interest on the local area.” Yarra Valley Gifts sells artisan wares in timber, glass, mosaic and pottery; including Indigenous, hand-crafted items such as cards, heat packs, doorstops; and scarves in felt, silk and wool. Also available are locally made skincare, soaps and candles. They also have a range of children’s books, written in Western Australia as well as by local authors. They import children’s toys, body brushes, disposable decorative tableware and some glassware. Ms Lucas said the shop had plenty of great features. “The fact that we concentrate our efforts on sourcing locally produced items is a main attraction,” she said. “We are always on the lookout for quality artisan and handcrafted items to feature in the store.” Ms Lucas said Yarra Glen was one of the friendliest areas in which she had worked. “The locals are very supportive,” she said. Yarra Valley Gifts is located at 22 Bell Street, Yarra Glen. Inquiries to 9730 1134.

TOURISM

Ramp it up with a day tour BY PETER DOUGLAS NOT everyone wants high-paced, jump-out-of-a-plane tourism adventures.

Operator Sue Davis said she wanted to boost accessibility.

Some just want to enjoy the beautiful tourism hot-spots for which the Yarra Ranges is renowned. Unfortunately, seeing such sights can pose a problem for those with mobility issues; for those individuals where the mind is willing but the body is able.

The buses cater for the extra pieces of equipment that the passengers require.

This is an issue start-up Davis Day Tours has sought to address, in order to boost enjoyment of the wonderful region.

There are also hand-rails on both sides of the door and Sue personally assists every passenger.

Davis Day Tours is a licensed tour operator with Parks Victoria which operates on weekdays and can cater for as many as 27 passengers.

The driver takes the wheelie walker, loads and secures it into a padded trailer (so the steel walkers are not damaged in transit) and are tagged according to their owner’s requirements. (A red tag is attached to a walker that belongs to a passenger who cannot move much further than the bus without it. A green tag is attached to a walker that belongs to a passenger who is slightly more ‘sprightly’ and balanced, shall we say, without the walker for a few minutes).

Operator Sue Davis said she wanted to boost accessibility to the region’s tourist hot-spots. I know there are many tourist bus operators such as mine, but the majority of tourist buses do not cater for these extra, essential pieces of equipment that the passengers require, so my business does,” she said. “My business specialty is more for the senior residents of the area, the older generation, who in some cases have mobility issues. “The passengers may require the use of a wheelie walker or walking frame.” The mini-buses are equipped with proper aluminium (light but strong) ramps; this enables the passenger to disengage from their walker and easily enter/exit safely from the bus.

Ms Davis said she was born and bred in the region and wanted nothing more than to show others the beauty of the region. “I was born in Upper Ferntree Gully hospital in 1964, raised in Belgrave, went to Tecoma Primary School and Upwey High School, and have lived on and around the Yarra Ranges my whole life,” she said. “My heart is in my business because I really want to work with elderly, less mobile residents.” For more information or bookings, contact Sue on 0407 149 967.

FINE DINING Coonara Springs is one of the most historic sites in the region.

Re-opened for

fine dining ESTABLISHED in 1893, and possibly the oldest restaurant in the Hills, Coonara Springs Restaurant recently re-opened its doors after an extensive three-year restoration project to again take its rightful place as a fine-dining destination. The property’s fascinating history includes it being the original territory of the native Wurundjeri tribe, who nursed their sick and wounded in the healing waters of the natural spring, which is still located here. By the early 20th century, the Dandenong Ranges had blossomed as a popular tourist destination for urban dwellers, which inspired two enterprising women, Mrs Hall and Mrs Faulds, to first open Coonara Springs as a tea room in the early 1920s, setting in motion a glorious tradition of hospitality on the lavish garden property. In 1943, internationally acclaimed American opera singer Grace Angelau purchased the landmark and her passion for food resulted in her later becoming food editor for the Argus newspaper. In the late 1950s, Mrs Joyce Bankin acquired Coonara Springs and became famous for her Devonshire teas, introducing fine dining by the early '80s.

Or check out their Facebook page.

A great fine-dining destination.

Enchanted by its history and potential, Sally and Adam Whitford purchased Coonara Springs in 2013, by which time it had fallen into disrepair. Sally and Adam’s formidable culinary team is headed up by with well-known executive chef Adrian Upward, who is well-known for his culinary expertise at luminary restaurants such as Fanny’s in Melbourne and Cottage Point in Sydney. Adrian’s development of the menu has been mostly inspired by the history of Coonara Springs, the seasonal vegetables and herbs from the kitchen garden, and quality local produce. The cuisine is contemporary Australian with country flair, with an extensive wine list complementing the cuisine, highlighting boutique producers in the Yarra Valley, and featuring an impressive reserve list. Coonara’s captivating history is reflected in its decor and artefacts from yesteryear, while the property offers a variety of dining and 12 SPRING 2016

MUSIC Themaetrio will form part of the music festival.

Hills alive with all-genre music HEALESVILLE may be synonymous with wineries and wildlife, but over the past six years another element has been drawing crowds to the town. Once a year, local, national and international musicians come to the Yarra Valley for the Healesville Music Festival. It’s an event that had humble beginnings, but is now drawing top-shelf artists from across Australia and beyond. The Healesville Music Festival began in 2010 as a one-day, one-stage affair. It may have only been a word-of-mouth, eight-ensemble occasion, but the grassroots crew that organised that first event – held in Healesville’s leafy Queens Park under a full moon – knew they were on to something. Since then, the festival has spread across the town. This year’s festival will be held in a variety of venues, from well-stocked warm bars to the town’s own world-standard performance space known as the Memo. This year, the festival will be held from Friday 11 November, through to Sunday the 13th. Event organisers – a tightknit group of locals with a passion for music – are making sure visitors will have an experience that goes far beyond the tunes. And as to the music ... in 2016, the Healesville Music Festival will feature bands such as the Haywood Billy Goats, a traditional string band which hails from North Carolina. Other musicians who will perform across the weekend include the Tek Tek Ensemble (evoking tropical jungles, late night Balkan weddings), Suzannah Espie (who brings an intoxicating mix of country, folk,

For those who want to Picture: JESSE do more than listen, GRAHAM the festival features workshops, open-mic sessions, as well as a highoctane all-in bush dance. The quality of performers, the beauty of the region and its proximity to Melbourne means that the Healesville Music Festival is fast becoming a key calendar event. FERNSHAW

The cork tree is one of several heritage listed trees at Fernshaw.

Photos and information on Fernshaw township provide a sense of place and time for a village largely forgotten.

Off to Fernshaw on picnic BY KATH GANNAWAY AT ONE time, Fernshaw in the Watts River valley between Healesville and Narbethong was a thriving settlement with two pubs, a post office, store, and a number of settlers and fruit growers. For 26 years between 1864 and 1890, up to 100 people lived and worked in the village which was a stopping-off point for the Cobb & Co coaches on their way through to Marysville and the goldfields of Woods Point. It’s hard to imagine, that in its heyday Fernshaw was the top tourist township in Victoria. “Beautiful gullies, in which there is a profusion of ferns of every variety and degree, from the delicate maiden hair to giant trees 40 feet in height, present themselves at every turn in the road. At the six-mile point slip rails of the track to Mount Juliet are passed and seven miles from Healesville you rattle into the lovely dale famous throughout the colony and beyond it for its exceptional beauty – Fernshaw.” That is the picture of Fernshaw picnic area that the Healesville Guide Book – Pictorial Souvenir presented to the tourists of the early 1900s. And, actually, in that respect, it’s not so very different now! Ultimately, it was the pristine Watts River, the very feature that made it the ideal place for a village, that saw its demise. The waters of the Watts were needed for the growing metropolis of Melbourne and to ensure the purity of the supply, Fernshaw was bought by the government and returned to nature.

Touristnews

A popular place for walkers.

While for decades the township was forgotten, the picnic area with its bush setting, the river and delightful walks remained a popular tourist spot. “Almost every distinguished stranger who visits the state is taken to Healesville, the drive from the township to Fernshaw being one of the most picturesque and enjoyable in Australia.” The guide book enthused. Among those "distinguished strangers” was the Duchess of York (later Queen Mary) who travelled by horse-drawn carriage to Fernshaw in 1901. Today, its great attraction is that there is nothing much there at all - no playgrounds, no kiosks, no distractions, and for the most part, no crowds. It has a solitude about it which appeals to those who enjoy the quiet enjoyment of the park-like open space surrounded by the majesty of the tall mountain-ash forests of the Black Spur. The ‘Queen Mary’ tree, a magnificent oak, planted in commemoration of the Duchess’s visit is one of several heritagelisted trees, including a cork oak and American redwoods. Along the main walking track is a series of information boards and photos which provide visitors with a glimpse of village life “in the old days”. It is a popular starting point for several bush walks, including to Dom Dom Saddle. There are one or two picnic tables, a gas barbecue and toilets – simple amenities in a place which promotes simple pleasures. Fernshaw Picnic Area is managed by Parks Victoria and is a 15-minute drive along Maroondah Highway out of Healesville.

Enjoy the renewed energy of spring in the bush.

SPRING RACING Fashions on the field is always popular.

The racing action will start to heat up this spring.

Spring racing to

take off BY PETER DOUGLAS THE Spring Carnival is off and racing in the Yarra Valley. If a day out at the horse races is part of your spring plans, the Yarra Valley has two very different venues, but both with incredible racing experiences on offer. You can have a flutter trackside at Yarra Valley Racing (YVR) in Yarra Glen, or at the Healesville Amateur Racing Club (HARC). The tracks are geared up for families, with plenty of entertainment and games. They are well-equipped and provide emphasis on providing facilities and spaces where families can enjoy a relaxing day out with plenty to keep everyone happy and entertained. It’s not all about the kids, however, and each track offers great dining and marquee packages for young people, family, community and corporate groups, as well as lots of lawn areas for picnics.

Contestants in fashions on the field receive plenty of encouragement.

Spring racing makes for a great day out.

And, then there are the horses. For the more serious punters, there are TAB facilities along with the on-course bookies who provide betting on local and other meetings, as well as adding to the race-day atmosphere. Upcoming events at Yarra Valley Racing include: · Cox Plate Day on Saturday 22 October; · Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 01 November; · Pacing Cup Day on Thursday 03 November. Upcoming events at Healesville Amateur Racing Club include: · Derby Day on Saturday 29 October; · Spring Race Meeting on Saturday 19 November. Melbourne might be Australia’s racing capital, but the Yarra Valley has plenty to offer racegoers who are keen for a flutter or a day out. Don’t limit yourself this spring. PARKS AND GARDENS

Glorious

gardens galore EXPERIENCE the serenity and beauty of the Dandenong Ranges Gardens this spring. Melbournians love their gardens in the Dandenong Ranges but many have never experienced their favourite garden. “Parks Victoria has seven beautiful gardens to explore,” said Parks Victoria Area Chief Ranger Glenn Maskell. “There are different species of plants flowering and the gardens are very serene and peaceful at this time of year. “You’re also much more likely to spot wildlife and with fewer visitors around you can usually get a car park right near the entrance.” Research says that time spent in parks is good for physical, mental, social and spiritual health.

POWELLTOWN

Take the turn to Powelltown BY KATH GANNAWAY MOTORISTS could drive past the turn off to Powelltown on their way to Warburton or through it on their way to Gippsland but they’d be happily surprised if they stopped a while and explored everything this fascinating village and surrounding area have to offer. With its location in the centre of mountain ash timber country in the Little Yarra River Valley, it’s not surprising that bushwalking is the main attraction. The drive into Powelltown along Little Yarra Road is one of the prettiest in the Yarra Valley and takes in lush green farmlands and apple orchards as the hamlets of Gladysdale, Gilderoy and Three Bridges are marked off along the way. Powelltown itself is snuggled in a nest of the magnificent mountains that take walkers on tracks of discovery to places including one of the biggest living things in the world – the Ada Tree. At about 76 metres high and with a 15.7 metre girth, the Ada Tree is the reward at the end of the 3.2 kilometre Island Creek Rainforest Walk. Making the way through cool groves of ancient myrtle beech, sassafras and soft tree ferns, this is an easy walk, particularly suitable for young and elderly walkers. Not such an easy trek, however, but every bit as rewarding, is the walk to Seven Acre Rock in the Yarra State Forest. At 600 metres altitude, this large, rocky outcrop provides amazing views of the Yarra State Forest, the Bunyip River Valley, and the Bunyip State Park. The walking track is reached via Learmonth Creek Road, west of Powelltown off the Little Yarra Road. The two-kilometre return trek starts at the car park and picnic ground and while the first little bit looks quite accessible, it becomes more challenging as it wends its way along the mountainside. A recent community plan has put tourism very firmly in the focus for the Little Yarra Valley with locals keen to showcase the valley’s heritage and the history that is still very much alive in buildings such as the Union Church, the hall and the timber workman’s cottages that are home to some of the town’s 200 residents. The Walk Into History is a major attraction for serious walkers as well as for those who just want to take a stroll into some of the most beautiful timber country remaining in the Yarra Valley. Unique in Victoria, the track follows historic timber tramways that wind their way through spectacular forest scenery, retracing the route of the original tramways and visiting the sites of former settlements and bush mills, now largely reclaimed by the forests. Whatever the level of fitness, and time constraints, there are plenty of options from half-day sections to more extended overnight and threeday walks with camping areas available. Visit parkweb.vic.gov.au (Walk Into History) for inspiration and practical information on taking a walk into Powelltown’s history.

If it’s a leisurely walk around town that’s needed or somewhere to re-energise after a hard-day’s trekking, the iconic Powelly Pub is the place to rest weary bones and sit down to some great food and conversation. Talking food, be sure to pop in at the Coolstore at Three Bridges for some fresh off-the-tree apples as a souvenir. It’s true, the locals lost the fight with bureaucracy a couple of years ago to get a sign pointing the way to Powelltown from the Warby Highway at Yarra Junction, but for those who know the best secret places to visit, perhaps that just means it’s all the more appealing when taking the road less travelled and discovering the Little Yarra Valley.

Powelly Pub is a must stop.

DINING

It’s all in good

taste

BY PETER DOUGLAS IF THERE is one secret in the Yarra Ranges that must be shared extensively, it’s the incredible range of dining and entertainment options. No matter whether you’re after fine dining, a relaxed lunch or a top night out with friends, the many hotels, restaurants and pubs need to be considered. If it’s a culinary treat you’re seeking, Coonara Springs might be a rewarding option. With bistro, a la carte and set menu options throughout the week, their dishes will leave you coming back for more. The hot-spot is perfect for family gatherings, get-togethers or special occasions. Or, you can’t pass through Healesville without dropping by the town’s icon, ‘The Grand’. The recently renovated building oozes character and ornate charm, offering a delightful ambience and sumptuous, affordable menu. Patrons can unwind by the fireplace, enjoy a drink on the balcony, or check out the beer garden. Perhaps Jason's Restaurant is more your style. Located at Bradford Estate Winery, Jason’s Restaurant is one place where your tastebuds will certainly thank you. The restaurant offers modern international cuisine with a difference, while also catering for weddings and functions. If it’s a top night out with mates that’s calling, York on Lilydale is an iconic pub which regularly features top acts from Australia and abroad. Situated just 45 minutes east of Melbourne, the ‘York’ offers plenty of entertainment choices, including a bistro, beer garden and sports bar. Or why not the Paradise Valley Hotel, which is not just a secret spot for the locals? Touristnews

In fact, day-trippers and tourists can take on a ride on Puffing Billy and arrange for the iconic locomotive to drop in to the hotel, where you can enjoy a relaxed lunch. You can even arrange for Puffing Billy to return and collect you a few hours later. The hotel features bar and bistro menus, and is a great destination for family and friends. But whatever you fancy, the Yarra Ranges has it covered. So, do a little planning, take the plunge and enjoy what the Yarra Ranges has to offer. SPRING 2016 27

HAND-PICKED FRUIT “The juice runs down your chin, you have to bend over to eat it, it’s like a big ball of juice with a little bit of fibre and the flavour is just superb – everything about it is just superb.” This spring, rather than strolling down busy aisles at the supermarket wander down beautiful blossoming orchard rows and get fresh produce that is literally ripe for the picking. The Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges are brimming with fresh fruit picking opportunities, and there’s no better time than spring time to enjoy the large range of produce that the valley has to offer.

The juice runs down your chin, you have to bend over to eat it, it’s like a big ball of juice with a little bit of fibre and the flavour is just superb – everything about it is just superb… Experience the succulent and juicy taste of ripe fruit taken straight from the tree. With oranges, mandarins, kiwi fruit, inca berries, strawberries, raspberries and tamarillos all coming into season, U-Pick farms have a huge variety of fruit for everyone to try. Rayner’s Orchard offers U-Pick as part of their orchard tours where you get to see the entire fruit picking process first-hand and as Len describes it go on a “fruit adventure”. With over 450 different varieties of fruit and at least eight different types available every day of the year, Rayner’s Orchard always has produce available for visitors to enjoy. “It’s more than just U-Pick” says Len, “it’s a fruit adventure.” Only an hour from Melbourne the Yarra Valley offers a fun family filled day, many of the U-Pick farms have farm cafes where you can enjoy a range of jams, desserts and fresh fruits while soaking up the warm spring sun. Rejuvenate this spring by enjoying a tasty day out in the Dandenongs and the Yarra Valley.

SPRING 2016 35

Fresh bread is just one of the tasty items on offer for market-goers.

Big dream has come true BELGRAVE Big Dreams Market was founded two-and-a-half years ago with the intention of providing a platform for emerging and established talent to showcase their wares, build their brand and reach for the stars. The inaugural Big Dreams Market was a huge success with 35 stalls including fresh produce. Two-and-a-half years later it has tripled in size and now has an extensive range of produce stalls including fresh fruit and veggies, organic bread, jams and preserves, honey, dips, free range eggs, cheese, olives, organic tea, chai and vegan food. The market has a very diverse selection of high quality stalls and now also includes some vintage and second-hand stalls, so there really is something for everyone. Delicious coffee is served from a beautiful converted vintage Franklin caravan and there is a scrumptious selection of hot street food including Indian, organic, pizza and paella.

There is plenty of variety at the market from which to choose. The Big Dreams Market has evolved into an amazing community space where young, old and furry friends commune and connect. The market has gained a reputation for its relaxed, friendly vibe. In the heart of Belgrave, the market is very easily accessed by car, train, bike or foot. Situated on the grounds of St Thomas More Primary School and split over two levels, the market is the perfect destination for families with its on-site playground, a bouncy castle, face painting and awesome live music. The market also offers kids’ stalls for children 16 years and under. These young entrepreneurs are encouraged to sell their own handmade crafts or second-hand toys. The market runs on the second Sunday of the month, except January, from 9am-2pm in Reynolds Lane, Belgrave.
