Perfect weather for it By JACK MANGROVE WITH the weather being so favourable over the past week, offshore anglers headed out in big numbers. Tuna, Spotted and Spanish Mackerel have been in good numbers on most major reefs, best way to target them has been high speed metal slugs such as Halco Twisties and Spanyid Raiders in the 10-30 gram size. Keep an eye out for diving birds feeding on bait schools. Sunshine Reef has again been preforming with plenty of sweetlip, trout and snapper. Soft plastics fished hard to the bottom have been very successful. Up on North Reef some
better quality snapper and pearl perch have been hitting the decks. Jew, larger cod and sweetlip have also been on the menu. Live baits have been getting some of the better results. A lot of anglers took advantage of the conditions and headed out wide to the banks or up north to the reefs off Double Island. Again large snapper were on the minds of a lot of anglers and they were not disappointed. Fish of around 4kg were around with some even larger fish boated. In the Noosa River there have been plenty of tailor on the chew. Surface lures are a fun way to chase them, with the early mornings and late afternoons the prime time. There have been a heap of
school trevally through the system, live baits and paddle vibe type soft plastic have been a good way to go. Jacks are still active at night, slow rolled plastics like the Gladiator Prawn rigged with a stinger hook are proving very effective as the fish are all feeding on prawns at the moment. Flathead are in good numbers at the moment with the mouth of the lakes very productive. Whiting have also been in good numbers with the dog beach and the frying pan producing some nice fish. Worms, prawns and yabbies have been the go to baits, another great way to target the fantastic table fish is with poppers and surface walkers. I like the Crystal Poppers
from Bassday as they are a little heavier and cast extremely well. On the beach, the dart have been everywhere, fishing the gutter on the Noosa North Shore has also seen some quality tailor, jew, and some bigger sized flathead, big baits of mullet fillet, tailor fillet or even a big clump of worms may see an outstanding result. The rocks around the Noosa National Park have also seen some larger bream and squire. Squid, pilchards and garfish have been the best baits. So on behalf of Jack Mangrove, best of luck on your fishing adventures!
