Reunion fun for Class of ’61 THE Noosa Surf Club played host to the Grade 8 class of 1961 when ex-Tewantin State School students gathered to celebrate their 55-year reunion. Former students travelled from Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Gold Coast and even as far as Darwin to reconnect with old friends and share a laugh over school yard tales. Event organiser Judy Sinclair said it was “mind boggling” to see all her old friends and said it was great that people had travelled from so far to attend the reunion.

Markets no go By MEGAN OGLE

A LOCAL community group is disappointed after an application for riverside markets was rejected by Noosa Council last week. Noosaville Business Association (NBA) president Darren Schwerin said the group had worked hard to get monthly nightly markets up and running along the Noosa River foreshore but was “disappointed” last week when council rejected the application. “As the business body which represents the traders of this area, we are
eager to implement events and activities which draw people to the area,” Mr Schwerin said. “I am very disappointed that we, as a group of volunteers, working hard to provide community benefits, should experience objection from council to stage an event which has such obviously strong community support.” Mr Schwerin said council supplied NBA with a list of eight considerations which impacted their decision including concerns regarding vehicle access to the parkland, increased traffic congestion, limited parking and possible
conflicts with local businesses. Noosa Council property and facilities manager Clint Irwin said the matter has not been before council’s planning and organisation committee, however, said council was in discussions with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines about current and proposed land uses and activities relating to the Noosa River foreshore area. Mr Schwerin said the NBA would continue to seek other avenues and venues, and will engage with council further in this regard.
