COUNCIL DECISIONS CHEERED AS NOOSA CLAIMS ITS FREEDOM JIM FAGAN The future came to Noosa last Thursday with the inaugural meeting of Noosa Council. And it came so quickly that it seemed the packed public gallery had barely time to fill the seats and applaud some of the decisions before the meeting was over.
It took an hour - or to be more precise, one hour and PAGE

two minutes - for the newly sworn-in Council (Mayor, Noel Playford and Crs Bob Abbot, Sandy Bolton, Joe Jurisevic, Frank Pardon, Tony Wellington and Frank Wilkie) to dust off the cobwebs of six years of amalgamation and usher in a new era of vital, far-reaching decision-making. In that brief time the council elected a deputy mayor (former mayor Bob Abbot); restricted the use of Teewah airstrip; forecast a budget surplus with no rate rise, bringing services back to pre-amalga-

Wellington said the decision would be a relief to the many residents who have been living with unregulated helicopter noise. The continued use of model aircraft, ultralights and hang gliders would still be allowed.
