Dear Members,

A Note From Ray

I am pleased to introduce Teia Warren as our new First Impressions/Communications Coordinator Teia has many years of experience working as an adult victim advocate for the Family Service of the Piedmont in Guilford County She’s a native of the Triad region and attended Guilford Technical College following her high school graduation. She has a hospitality heart and a warm smile. Please welcome her to our Starmount family the next time you see her at the reception desk.

Last month, we were thrilled to host nearly 500 members and guests for our Mother’s Day Brunch. Based on the wonderful feedback from many of you, it’s clear that we exceeded expectations. This success was due to the hard work and planning of our food and beverage team, led by David Lehman, Chef Dicey, Emily Frazier, and Heidi Wentworth.

We also had a successful pool opening just in time for the Memorial Day weekend celebrations. Special thanks go to Keith Carrick and his maintenance team, as well as Meg and Ashley McNairy and their team of lifeguards. We look forward to a fun and safe pool season. Please remember to adhere to the pool guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and to keep the pool open without incident.

Chef Dicey has prepared another exciting menu for your poolside enjoyment. Please note that if you choose to order from the Bistro 59 menu while at the pool, you should expect slower service The Bistro kitchen prioritizes diners in the Bistro 59, and pool orders will be prepared once those inside are served We strive to accommodate all our members, but we must ensure that Bistro diners are not inconvenienced by special orders from the pool.

It is my pleasure to announce our June Employee of the Month, Jacob Gordon. Jacob currently serves as our Executive Sous Chef and has been a valued member of the culinary team since October 2014. His focus is primarily on managing the Bistro 59 culinary professionals and developing menus and weekly specials. Jacob is a talented culinary professional with a bright future, and we are grateful for his skills and leadership. Please join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition.

As always, I value your feedback. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to share your praises or if we have fallen short of your expectations. Thank you for your continued support of our club. I look forward to seeing many of you over the upcoming summer months

Best Regards,

General

President’s Note

To my Fellow Members of Starmount,

I’m composing this message after my first visit to the pool facilities on May 25. All the guys I played golf with that Saturday gathered at the Splash Bar for a refreshment and to settle our small wagers.

Looking around at the crowd of children, teenagers, families, assorted adults, and busy service staff, I made the comment that I don’t believe there is a better social scene around a swimming pool anywhere in Greensboro. My friend, Perry Henson, agreed, and added his opinion that it’s also a beautiful place to hang out. The landscaping is well done, and by sitting near the highest elevation on our property, the views of other buildings and the golf course are terrific! So, even if you don’t want to swim, bring friends for a casual meal at the Splash Bar and Grill and just enjoy the vibes.

Speaking of good vibes, I am pleased to report that our Club continues to operate within its planned budgets for finances and membership so far this year. Thanks to your support of dining, social, and sports activities, we continue to attract new members that are interested in being a part of Starmount’s bright future.

Progress is occurring for the addition of pickleball courts, installation of golf simulators, and the golf course renovation

. The building and equipment for the simulators should arrive in a few weeks, and we hope to have them up and running next month

The contract for the golf course renovation has been signed, and a construction deposit has been made.

Pickleball construction engineering plans are awaiting approval from the Greensboro City Planning Department.

We’ll keep you posted on additional developments. In the meantime, enjoy all the summertime activities available at our Club

See you at Starmount.

GOLF Summer Golf Tips

Stay Hydrated.

It’s essential to drink plenty of water in hot weather. Remember, water is the best fluid for your body, hands down. “Playing in the summer heat will suck the moisture right out of you,”. “Bring plenty of water with you and take advantage of the water stations around the course. It will help you to stay hydrated and keep your body cool.” Another smart tip: Start drinking water before you arrive at the golf course.

Wear Sunscreen.

Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by slathering on sunscreen. For sunny, hot, and humid days. Use sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30. Reapply sunscreen at the turn or every hour or two. Protective lip balm is also a good idea. Don’t forget your sunglasses.

Grab a Cart.

Although walking is generally beneficial to your health, you may want to ride in a golf cart on extremely hot and humid days, you will reduce your overall energy exertion and avoid becoming overheated.

Notice How You Feel.

Heat stroke is dangerous. Know the signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion: weakness, headache, muscle cramps, irritability … nausea, vomiting, light-headedness, feeling hot on head and neck, dry and sticky mouth, tiredness, lack of sweating, and rapid heartbeat. Have a cell phone handy in case of an emergency.

Please call your Golf Professional staff to schedule a lesson so that we can help you with this. Lesson packages are also available. Head Pro – Savio Nazareth $400 for a package of five onehour lessons. Assistant Pro – Ross Hodges and Chase Sells $350 for a package of five one-hour lessons.

Farewell to my Starmount Family

As we now enter what will be my last month as your Fitness Director, I reflect on the last (woah, almost seven!) years, and I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunities that have been given and the relationships I have formed. This position has inspired me, encouraged me, and challenged me to grow professionally and personally. While I am hopeful for new opportunities and fresh starts ahead for our family - the difficulty of saying goodbye to a place and people that have meant so much to me is a testament to why we call Starmount a family

To the members who take my group fitness classes and invested in personal training with me: Through our shared stories, challenging workouts, and moments of vulnerability, my connections with each of you have proven once again that the career I've chosen is my calling. I hope that in big or small ways, I've influenced your experience to be nothing but positive, motivating, and empowering.

With heartfelt thanks, warmest regards, smiles and bittersweet tears. Keep that volume up and sweat until the beat drops! Your best effort is always enough!
