Due to the current COVID situation in our area, the Celebration of Life Service for Harry Dalton will be postponed until the spring of 2022. Harry’s family is still collecting favorite memories of Harry to be used in a remembrance booklet. If you have a favorite memory of Harry (a joke, nickname, or phrase), please forward them to the church office.

Barbara Rakes, Church Secretary: I will be on vacation August 16 – August 20, so the church office will be closed. I will be available remotely and can be reached through email (church@starlingavenue.org).

DID YOU KNOW? • A constitution provides the structure for an organization, describes its purpose, and defines the duties and responsibilities of the officers and members. The objective is to draft a document that covers these topics in a simple, clear, and concise manner.

• Bylaws establish the specific rules of guidance by which the group is to function. They are rules that a group adopts to govern its internal operations and its dealings with others. These rules are intended to complement the constitution.

Bylaws can be detailed rules that cannot be covered in detail in the constitution itself.

• Policies and procedures provide a roadmap for day-to-day operations. They ensure compliance with laws and regulations, give guidance for decision-making, and streamline internal processes. They reinforce the parameters of operations within which individuals, councils, committees, and teams function in the implementation of their responsibilities.

• Our first church constitution was adopted by the church in December 1981.

• The eighth Constitution Review and revision committee has been working since May

to update our church constitution.

• You can bring to this committee your suggestions and concerns.

• When the revised documents are completed, you will get a copy and will be asked to

review and adopt it.

Deacons are ministering our sick, grieving, and homebound members. Please let your deacon know your concerns.

The Personnel Committee is actively involved in seeking visiting ministers and speakers to fill the pulpit and arranging for guest musicians and special music. Joan Joyce (janddjoyce@gmail.com) is chairman. Please make suggestions for them to consider.

The Worship Committee oversees the order of the worship service. Anne Stultz (annehstultz53@gmail.com) is the contact person for this group. Please volunteer to help open and close the church, to be a lay leader, greeter, or to help with live streaming the service.

Your offering envelopes are already self-addressed. All you need is a stamp and tape to reinforce.

-Drop off your envelopes in the locked mailbox outside of the Church Office.

-Set up an automatic or one-time bank draft through your bank. Simply go to your bank’s bill pay webpage. Set up Starling Avenue Baptist Church as the “payee” and have your payments automatically delivered electronically. This is simple and doesn’t cost you or the church any fees.

-Online giving available at www.starlingavenue.org. You can choose “Cover Fees” to slightly increase your gift to pay processing fees.

Scripture Readings for Sunday, August 15, 2021 Psalm 111 Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. Full of honour and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures for ever. He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.

He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.

They are established for ever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures for ever.
