Sunday, July 18 11:00 am--Sanctuary & Virtual Worship 12:15 pm Quarterly Business Meeting Wednesday, July 21 6:00 pm--Bible Study in Social Hall, Leader Beth Jones Welcome Dr. Dennis Knight as our guest minister. Tommy Wells will serve as today’s Lay Leader. Pianist is Sarah Fain with Pat McKinster as hymn leader.

Greeters are Nancy Snyder & Anne Stultz. Lock-up is David Bell.

Quarterly Church Business Meeting will be held following today’s worship.

Back2School Events: Registration #2 will be Tuesday, July 20, from 6-8 pm.

Volunteers need to arrive at Albert Harris at 5:30 pm. Packing backpacks will be Wednesday, August 4, starting at 5:30 pm. Volunteers need to arrive at 700 Commerce Court, Martinsville, at 5:30 pm. The Big Event will be Saturday, August 7, starting at 9:00 am. Volunteers need to arrive at Albert Harris at 8:00 am. If you would like to help with one or more of the remaining three events or have questions, please contact Donna Finley at 276-732-8092. If you know of children that would benefit from this event, please let their parent or guardian know about the registration on July 20th. This is the last day in the city to register. They will receive new shoes for school and a new backpack filled with school supplies.

Please volunteer to help open and close the church, to be a lay leader, greeter, or to help with live streaming the service. Contact a member of the Worship Committee or the church office.

Community meals have continued throughout the pandemic, and as this team considers returning to serving meals in the Fellowship Hall, more volunteers are needed. Contact Toni Tollison or the church office.

Through our Benevolence Fund, we are able to help those in need in our community who don’t qualify for assistance elsewhere. We are always in need of resources in order to meet needs as they arise. During these days when the pandemic has caused so much economic hardship, please consider giving to the SABC Benevolence Fund so that we can help our neighbors.

The Church Library will be open on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month from 10 am-12 pm. Come check out a new book or puzzle!

A Memorial Service for Harry Dalton is being planned for August 28, 2021. Further details will appear in a future bulletin.

Celebration of Life Service for Dr. Barry M. Dorsey will be held on August 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm at New College Institute, Balwin Building, Martin-Lacy Lecture Hall, 191 Fayette Street, Martinsville. Reception immediately following service. (If you enter from Fayette Street the Lecture Hall is on the right. If you enter from Market Street you will need to go upstairs to reach the Lecture Hall.)

Your offering envelopes are already self-addressed. All you need is a stamp and tape to reinforce.

-Drop off your envelopes in the locked mailbox outside of the Church Office.

-Set up an automatic or one-time bank draft through your bank. Simply go to your bank’s bill pay webpage. Set up Starling Avenue Baptist Church as the “payee” and have your payments automatically delivered electronically. This is simple and doesn’t cost you or the church any fees.

-Online giving available at www.starlingavenue.org. You can choose “Cover Fees” to slightly increase your gift to pay processing fees.

Scripture Readings for Sunday, July 18, 2021 Psalm 89:20-37 I have found my servant David; with my holy oil I have anointed him; my hand shall always remain with him; my arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not outwit him, the wicked shall not humble him. I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him. My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him; and in my name his horn shall be exalted. I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. He shall cry to me, “You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation!” I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. For-ever I will keep my steadfast love for him, and my covenant with him will stand firm. I will establish his line for ever, and his throne as long as the heavens endure. If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my ordinances, if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with scourges; but I will not remove from him my steadfast love, or be false to my faithfulness. Mark 6:30-34 NIV The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
