Community Organisations, Groups and Facilities

1. Stanley Development Trust

Stanley Development Trust was formed in 2008 by members of the Stanley community to improve the quality of life in the village. It is overseen by a board of Trustees (voluntary) and a part-time employee who is responsible for delivering the Care and Wellbeing Project. The Trust exists to help the village and surrounding rural area to flourish through community-led activity and partnership working. You must be a Stanley area resident to join and membership is free.

The Care and Wellbeing Project delivers a number of core community projects and group activities and events in and around Stanley on behalf of the Trust including: Befrienders Service, Lunch Club, Time Bank, Drop-in activities e.g. Board Game Café, Knit and Natter, Soup Club and Winter Watch.

2. Befriending Service
Part of the Stanley Development Trust Care and Wellbeing Project, this small-scale befriending service for residents in the village and surrounding rural area. Befriending offers supportive, reliable relationships through volunteer befrienders to people who would otherwise be socially isolated or lonely due to illness, advancing years, bereavement, disability, or mental health issues. It is a free service and anyone can make a referral to it.
We are always looking for befrienders so if you are interested in finding out how to get involved or if you, or someone you know, would like the social support of a volunteer befriender then make contact with the Care and Wellbeing Project.

3. Board Game Café
Free monthly drop-in to play traditional games such as Scrabble, draughts, backgammon, dominos, cards etc. Just turn up. All games are provided.

When: 3rd Wednesday of each month

4. Coffee Morning Group
Formally known as the NHS Over 50s Coffee Morning, this group meets informally every other Thursday at the Tayside Hotel, at 10:30am for a blether and a catch-up.
Cost: £3.00 for tea/coffee and a home bake.

5. Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries Service Mobile Library


Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries operate a mobile library that visits Stanley fortnightly. Books, talking books, large print titles, walking stick ferrules and hearing aid batteries are all available from the mobile library. There are plenty of options for all tastes and age groups.
The CPK mobile library visits Stanley on alternate Wednesdays between 11:15am -12:15pm. All stops are in Percy Street.
To request items for collection, please go on to www.culturepk.org.uk/libraries/ and click on the Library Catalogue section to reserve your books, or call 01738 444949 where you can also check the current status of public access to the mobile library and the stops.
6. Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries Service RVS Books On Wheels
Library Direct works in partnership with the Royal Voluntary Service to deliver books to people who are unable to visit their local library. If you are house bound, recovering from illness, have mobility difficulties, visual impairment or are a carer at home, we can bring the library service to you. In addition to our regular stock, we have an extensive collection of large print and audio books available. We will select items for you and arrange for a RVS volunteer to deliver to you home monthly.

7. Guiding and Scout Association
Rainbows and Brownies are part of the Girlguiding family and provide a safe space in the community for girls aged 4-10 to meet, make friends, learn new skills and grow. We are always looking for adult volunteers to get involved. We meet Thursday nights at the Tayside Hotel Function Room.

8. Knit and Natter
Attached to the Time Bank Drop-in, individuals come along to get on with their knitting in a supportive group and have a chat while doing it. All skill levels welcome, although there is no guarantee that someone will be on hand with a higher skill-level to help with knitting problems.
Time Bank Drop-in takes place on a Wednesday from 2.30pm to 4pm.

9. Little Nemo’s Baby and Toddler Group
Little Nemo’s is open to anyone from bump to pre-school accompanied by a well-behaved adult! Come along and have a chat while your little one plays. No child is too young. It is a great way to meet new people especially for first time mums/dads/guardians/grandparents.
Every Thursday 10:00am -12 noon at the Tayside Hotel Function Suite.
Child & Adult £3.00 with additional children 50p. This includes a snack, tea/coffee and cake.

10. Perthshire Free Runners
We are a Free Running/Parkour group (urban gymnastics) who have regular classes for people aged 7 years and upwards - including adults. The group currently has members aged from 7-53 so all are welcome. We meet at Stanley Village Hall during winter or bad weather, otherwise we train in many areas in and around Perth, Scotland.

We operate year-round however in summer and if you are wanting to take part, make sure to find out where we are that night!
Classes run on Wed and Fri evenings (7:00pm to 9:00pm). Cost per session is £5. Please contact to check start dates.

11. Redgorton and Stanley Parish Church
Sunday Services - 10:00am. All welcome. Services take place at Stanley Village Hall and Luncarty Church Centre on alternate weeks.

The Guild - for women and men.

Messy Church - a way of being church for families and others based around welcome, crafts, art, celebration and eating together. Meeting 4 times a year.

12. Scottish Women’s Institute



The SWI has been established in Stanley for over 90 years and meet monthly on a Wednesday from September to May in The Village Hall. We are not only craft orientated but also invite speakers who cover a wide range of topics and subjects for our members to enjoy.
You are assured of a warm welcome with tea or coffee served along with some home baking. We would be delighted to hear from any new residents in the Village.

13. Stanley Amateur Football Club (Stanley AFC)


We are an amateur football team playing out of Stanley pitch behind the primary school. We play in the PAFA League. A great bunch of lads backed up by a hard working committee. 14. Stanley Attachment Cadet Force
The ACF is a youth organisation that provides an opportunity for young people to gain recognised qualifications in First Aid, Fieldcraft, Duke of Edinburgh, CVQO, BTEC, Adventure Training and more. Cadets is great for all young people in developing character and confidence. Everything we do adds and strengthens their CV.

15. Stanley Bowling Club

We offer the sport of bowls for most ages and abilities. Our season is April to September. Coaching is provided by Bowls Scotland coaches, and equipment available to use. Times are variable during summer. The club is also available for hire to other groups/ individuals. We have an ideal space for parties/ celebrations or meetings/day events. In winter we are open Tuesday night from 6.30pm for lottery draw, and Friday night 7:30pm for Bingo.

16. Stanley Community Group
This is an informal group of individuals from Stanley who come together to organise events with the aim to bring people together to create a more connected village community.
The Group organises a yearly Christmas Light switch on event on the last Sunday on November, and have previously organised community fun days.

17. Stanley Exercise Group
Weekly exercise class for all ages. We meet every Monday from 11:45am to 12:45pm at the Village Hall in Stanley.

18. Stanley Health Walks
Weekly Friday walks starting at 10am, convening in the Village Square opposite the school. Walks are led by trained volunteers and are safe, social and local around the path network in Stanley. Walks are free, new walkers are always welcome and we finish with tea/coffee at the Tayside Hotel. Stanley Health Walks Volunteers have Dementia Friendly training.

19. Stanley Lunch Club
Monthly Lunch Club held at the Tayside Hotel. Aimed at the older members of the community, particularly those living on their own or with the support of carers, and resident in Stanley and surrounding rural area. are Organised through the Care and Wellbeing Project with support from the Time Bank Lunch Club Volunteers who provide lifts for those in need of transport to the club. Two course hot lunch, tea/coffee and a biscuit.

20. Stanley Rifle Club

Small-bore Target shooting is an Olympic sport. In existence since 1914, the Club provides training and equipment for beginners, all done indoors and open to 14+years. Club competes in Perthshire and Fife Association winter leagues along with several internal handicapped competitions. The Club room and Range are located in the square by the Primary School. Club meets from September to April, Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30pm.

21. Stanley Soup Club
Care and Wellbeing Project initiative for 50+. Drop-in for a soup, sandwich and tea/coffee; take away a bag of healthy snacks; plus each month there will be a theme and information on that particular topic. This club is funded by NHS Tayside & Stanley Development Trust . All you have to do is turn up.

22. Stanley Time Bank
Run by Stanley Development Trust through the Care and Wellbeing Project, Timebanking is a free exchange of time and skills. People give an hour of their time to help someone and earn a ‘time-credit’ which can be exchanged for an hour of help for themselves. The Time Bank also supports regular community activities e.g. Litter Picking, Path Maintenance, Lunch Club, as well as a Wednesday afternoon activity drop-in at the Bowling Club and/or Tayside Hotel.
Joining the Time Bank provides an opportunity to volunteer within your local community through supporting Time Bank community events as well as individual support, and not forgetting that other Time Bankers can be there to help you too. Typical exchanges range from gardening to small DIY help, dog-walking, baking, teaching crafts, or IT help. The pool of activities on offer is always being expanded. Stanley Time Bank is online, but our Timebrokers (Time Bank admin volunteers) are available by phone and email to help register you in the Time Bank, arrange exchanges or help with Time Bank queries. There is also a Time Bank drop-in twice a month.

23. Stanley & District Men’s Shed
We are a group where men can meet, work with tools and make all sorts of articles to suit themselves. We also have a community orchard which currently has 141 trees with 10 more pending. The articles the men make are as follows: bird boxes, bird tables, swift boxes, hedgehog homes, owl boxes, squirrel homes and such - the list goes on and on. We meet at East Lodge at Stanley Mills, Tuesday & Thursday 10:00am to 4:00pmn and on the 1st Saturday of every month/ Come on down to see what we do, all are welcome.

24. Stanley & District Public Hall

The building has seen much needed investment in recent years and this has made it more attractive and user-friendly, hopefully encouraging more groups and individuals to make this a regular venue for meetings and activities. Increasing the frequency of usage will allow the Committee to continue to invest in improving the building for the Community’s benefit. We are always looking for fresh blood to assist and would be pleased to hear from anyone in the community interested in joining The Hall Committee or becoming a Hall Trustee.

25. Stanley in Bloom
Stanley In Bloom is a small group of people making our village look beautiful all year round with the planting of flowers in tubs and hanging baskets, and general weeding to keep our village square looking good.

26. St Columba’s Episcopal Church
St Columba’s is an open and inclusive church (Diocese of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane), within the Scottish Episcopal Church, part of the world-wide Anglican Communion.

The congregation worship online via Zoom on Sundays at 11:00am because our church building is currently closed for refurbishment. You are most welcome to join us.

27. West Stormont Historical Society


West Stormont Historical Society promotes and encourages the study of local history in this part of rural Perthshire. Our work may be of interest if you have kith, kin or connections in or around Airntully, Bankfoot, Chapelhill, Luncarty, Moneydie, Murthly, Pitcairngreen, Redgorton, Stanley and Waterloo

Society members have carried out research into the people, places, industry, events and social developments formative in the creation of the area's essential historical character. Historical records and photographs have been collected, archaeological sites explored and recorded, local houses and buildings surveyed, and biographies of local personalities researched and published.
The Society produces a quarterly e-magazine, Auld Times.

28. West Stormont Woodland Group
West Stormont Woodland Group (WSWG - pronounced Wizzywig!) is working with local people to bring Taymount Wood and Five Mile Wood into community ownership through the Community Asset Transfer Scheme run by current owners, Forestry and Land Scotland.
You can support the project and get involved in many ways. We have a free membership scheme which you can join at www.weststormontwoodlandgroup.scot/home/membership/ through which you will receive our Community Monthly Update to keep you in the loop about progress with the project, any events we have organised and other ways you can participate or volunteer.
