STANFORD OPEN 2024 - ONLINE MEET PROGRAM

Welcome to Stanford Open 2024 Stanford University and the Stanford Boys Gymnastics Boosters welcome you to the 30th Annual Stanford Open. We are proud to offer one of the foremost junior and senior men’s gymnastics competitions in the United States. The first Stanford Open was held in 1992. It was a small, one-day, local meet. Since those humble beginnings, this meet has grown exponentially into a major three-day event. This year we welcome international competitors from around the United States, including Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and our home state of California. This year, the meet has been designated as a qualification competition for the USA Winter Cup Challenge for FIG Senior Elite athletes (top 3 AA, excluding pre-qualified athletes). As is tradition, the Stanford Open will again include an NCAA session of fantastic college competitors as Stanford competes against University of California Berkeley. These competitors will in turn vie against members of Team USA, senior elites from across the USA as well as top qualifying Level 10 gymnasts. This meet would not be such a success without the help of our many, MANY volunteers, without whom we would still be a small, local, one-day meet. We thank the families of the current and former SBG athletes who have donated their time to organize and run the meet. We are also grateful to the many companies who have sponsored this meet through their generous donations. And last, but of course not least, we give special thanks to Stanford University and Stanford Men’s Gymnastics for their continued support, helping to make this one of the top meets in the country. Stanford Open 2024: Levels and Divisions The Compulsory Levels of the USA Gymnastics (USAG) Age Group Competition Program is made up of Levels 3, 4, 5, and 6. Each Compulsory Level is divided into two divisions, Division I and Division II. Only Division I Compulsory sessions will be held at the 2024 Stanford Open. Division I gymnasts are expected to compete the compulsory routines with one to all of the listed bonus skills in each routine. Each bonus skill successfully completed will add 0.5 to the gymnasts' start value, or potential perfect score. The maximum start value for Division I gymnasts in Level 3–6 is 11.5, except for Vault, which is 10.0. There are three bonus skills in Level 3, 4, 5, and 6. The remaining levels in the optional program are Levels 7, 8, 9, and 10. Levels 8, 9, and 10 are also divided into two groups, Junior National (JN) and Junior Elite (JE). Both JN and JE athletes will compete routines that must include event-specific requirements for their respective level, but routine composition and difficulty can vary drastically. JE athletes will compete technical sequences, which are essentially higher-level compulsory routines with a maximum score of 10.0 on each event, at the State, Regional, and National Championships in addition to their optional routines. JN athletes only compete the optional routines. Scores of 14.0+ on any of the events is considered very competitive.

REGION 1 – Level 3: Rules and Policies Philosophy – Level 3 gymnastics is designed to be an introductory level of gymnastics competition. Consequently, competing should be a positive experience for the athletes and parents where there is no fixation on score comparisons. To foster this ideal, it is highly encouraged that only the color of the ribbon be flashed to spectators and gymnasts to indicate a score range of achievement (see Score Range and Ribbon Color Tables below). Results, Scoring, & Awards – It is also highly encouraged that no scores be flashed at this level. After the judges tabulate the score, they will then select the appropriate ribbon to be displayed (referring to the table below). The ribbons will be given to the gymnasts at the end of the competition with their certificates. Competitive Uniforms – The introductory philosophy behind this level is to keep the high costs of competition to a minimum. Gymnasts are only required to compete in a T-shirt (with sleeves) and shorts. Though not mandated by the USA Gymnastics Age Group Competition Program policy, team clubs are strongly encouraged to support this philosophy by agreeing to not wear competitive type uniforms or team warm-ups at Level 3 competitions. Additionally, gymnasts may go bare foot, wear socks, or wear gymnastics footwear on all events. Invitational Meets – Region 1 highly encourages meet hosts to use the Level 3 scoring philosophy at their invitational meets by utilizing the score ranges and customized color ribbons in the tables below. Please make sure to provide this information to Out-of-Region clubs so that they are aware of the Region 1 Level 3 format. It is also recommended that an additional award be given out with the event ribbons at all invitational meets that include Level 3s (i.e. participation trophies, display quality certificates, customized medals, ribbon holders, etc.).
