Our Ministries Starlite Singers

Worship & Music

Age Range: 3-year-olds–kindergarten Days/Times: Wednesdays from 6:00–6:30 PM, September–May Description: Starlite Singers welcomes the youngest children with a variety of activities. Children sing, dance, make music, and learn of Jesus’ love for them. Participate in worship approximately once per month, as well as additional Wiggle & Worship services. Parents are always invited to attend, and nursery care is available for younger siblings.

Altar Guild

Age Range: Adult Days/Times: One weekend per month for one service Description: Sunday mornings set-up the sanctuary for Holy Communion and Holy Baptism, along with other important tasks, helps the congregation worship God in meaningful ways.

Sonshine Singers

Age Range: 1st–4th Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 6:15–7:00 PM, September–May Description: Sonshine Singers is an exciting and energetic children’s choir. Singers learn age-appropriate choral singing basics in a nurturing and fun environment. Members learn to read choral music and healthy singing habits. The choir sings during worship approximately once a month.

Age Range: Youth–adult Days/Times: Sign up to serve when available Description: Assist the pastors with distribution of the wine and bread for communion on the first and third Sundays mornings of the month.

Spirit Singers

Age Range: All ages Days/Times: Once every 4–6 weeks; 20 Minutes Description: To help create a welcoming environment at St. Andrew. Greet people, extend a hand, share a smile, help introduce people to others, and assist newcomers.

Age Range: 5th–9th Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 5:45–6:25 PM, September–May Description: The Spirit Singers sing approximately once a month in worship and once a year at the Café Concert. They sing anthems and descants for congregational hymns. Occasionally, they combine with the Canticle Choir, Sonshine Singers, and Starlite Singers. A variety of instruments accompany the Spirit Singers.

Age Range: Youth–adult Days/Times: Usher teams serve once a month every 3–4 months depending on the service hour and needs Description: To greet and assist those entering the sanctuary for worship with a warm smile and welcoming presence. Duties include distribution of bulletins, assisting with collecting the offering, directing the congregation for communion, and assisting those with special needs.

Age Range: 9th–12th Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 5:15–6:00 PM, Mid-Nov–Dec and will sing during 12/19 evening service, and services on 12/22.

Description: High School students are encouraged to participate in this excellent choir opportunity at St. Andrew. StAnd 4 meets during the month of December and supports worship services in December, making it a great opportunity for students to participate in moving services during Advent and to Serve God through music and make new friends in this great addition to our music program at St. Andrew.

Canticle Choir

Age Range: Adults, parents and children, and confirmation age youth Days/Time: Varies Description: This team helps with preparing the sanctuary for special services. Watch for opportunities to help on the St. Andrew website.

Age Range: Adults Days/Times: Wednesdays from 7:30–8:45 PM Description: The Canticle Choir singers lead the congregation at three 9:00 AM Sunday services a month and occasionally at the 10:30 AM service by singing the liturgy, special hymn arrangements, anthems, calls to worship, and the occasional major choral/orchestral compositions.

Summer Musical Drama Camp

Age Range: High School–Adult Days/Times: Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings Description: Festival Choir is an opportunity for singers (high school– adult) to join the Canticle Choir to sing for special services: Christmas Eve, Easter, and Pentecost. The commitment is short term requiring 2–3 rehearsals ending with a Sunday morning performance.

Age Range: 5th–12th Grade Days/Times: 1 week in the summer and 8 spring rehearsals Description: Students with a flair for the dramatic, a love of music, or a curiosity about how theatre works behind the scenes come together for a week in the summer to produce a musical. Auditions are in the spring, and everyone makes it! Past productions include: Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of Penzance, Godspell, Fiddler on the Roof, Aladdin, Annie.

Ring of Fire

Age Range: 5th–9th Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 5:15–6:00 PM, September–May Description: Ring of Fire is a great opportunity for both instrumentalists and singers to learn and play handbells. This lively group has an amazing and contagious sense of camaraderie! The handbell ensemble rings during worship about once a month. No experience is necessary!

Café Concert

Age Range: 5th–12th Grade Days/Times: January 25, 2020, 7:00 PM Description: Each winter, youth in grades 5–12 share their talents in a winter variety show. Acts of all types are welcome—music, dance, karate, juggling, comedy, and anything else. Special guest performers also join our show and we warm up the night together.

Peace bRingers

Age Range: 8th–12th Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 5:30–6:15 PM, September–May Description: Peace bRingers provides a bell choir experience for high school students and is a wonderful opportunity for fun, fellowship, and service! The handbell ensemble rings during worship about once a month. No experience is necessary!

Bells of Joy

Age Range: High school–adult Days/Times: Wednesdays from 6:30–7:25 PM Description: This 5-octave handbell choir for adults meets once a week to rehearse and plays in worship about once a month. Being part of Bells of Joy is a small group opportunity for those who enjoy praising God through music. Ringing experience is helpful but not necessary, everyone is welcome!

Intro to Handbells

Age Range: Adult Days/Times: Wednesdays from 6:00–6:30 PM Description: St. Andrew member Vicki Grant will be leading Intro to Handbells this fall for beginning handbell ringers. The class is for adults and will cover all the basics and techniques of handbell ringing. They will meet from September 18 through December 18. No experience with handbells is required but attendees should be able to read music.

Childcare

For all Children and Family Ministries, please contact Arlene Flancher, Director of Children’s Ministry at aflancher@standrewlu.org, unless otherwise noted.

Age Range: 6 weeks–5-year-olds Days/Times: Center hours are 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday Description: This year-round ministry is a full-day, nationally accredited program, and have also earned a 4 Star Rating through Minnesota Parent Aware. Our goal is to provide balance between flexibility and structure. We help to build a sense of independence and responsibility while including positive methods of guidance and provide each child with age-appropriate learning experiences throughout the day. As your child grows within our program we strive to provide them with a solid foundation of Kindergarten readiness to set them up for success!

School Year Children’s Ministries: Faith Rocks Sunday School

Age Range: 2 ½-year-olds–2nd Grade Days/Times: Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM Description: Faith Rocks Sunday School meets every week during both Sunday morning worship hours. All are welcome to make new friends, learn about Jesus, and have fun together! Register online.

Preschool

Difference Makers

Age Range: 33 months–5-year-olds Days/Times: We have 2, 3, 4, and 5 days a week classes that range from 3–4 hours, as well as a full day preschool class. Our preschool programs run from September–May. We also offer extended day afternoon enrichment classes and summer camps throughout the summer.

Description: We are a NAEYC Accredited Preschool, and have earned a 4 Star Rating through Minnesota Parent Aware. We encourage the development of each child’s understanding of God, while providing social interaction and enrichment. The teaching of faith is integrated in all developmental areas—physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual—with the goal of ensuring that children are prepared for the next step of Kindergarten.

Age Range: 3rd–6th Grade Days/Times: Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM Description: Difference Makers is designed specifically for 3rd–6th grade students and meets every week during both Sunday morning worship hours. Emphasis will be on living faith in daily life. Through video, small group conversation, and choice activities, we will discover how our faith and following Jesus makes a difference for us, our families, and in the world. Register online.

Christmas Program Worship

Age Range: 2 ½-year-olds–6th Grade Days/Times: Program: Sun., Dec. 15, 2019 at both morning worship services Dress Rehearsal: Sun., Dec. 8 during Sunday School/Difference Makers Description: St. Andrew Sunday School and Difference Makers kids will share the story of Jesus’ birth, at both morning services. All preparation happens during Sunday School/Difference Makers in November.

Afternoon Enrichment Classes

Age Range: 3–5-year-olds Days/Times: Dates and times of these classes vary. For the most current information, check out our website at standrewearlylearning.org Description: In tandem with or separate from our preschool programs, these enrichment classes provide a wide variety of experiences to nurture each child’s self-esteem as a wonderfully created child of God. Themes focus around topics such as STEAM, Spanish, Preschool Book Club, Science Explorers, and St. Andrew Fit Kids! (our popular gym class). Lunch Bunch, Stay & Play, and a Curb Side Dropoff option is also available.

Bible and Boogie

Age Range: 1st–2nd Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 5:15–6:15 PM, September–May Description: Bible and Boogie is a youth group designed just for 1st and 2nd graders. Kids will make friends, have fun, experience a Bible story, boogie, and pray together from 5:15–5:45 PM in Room 206, then we’ll share dinner together in the Fellowship Hall from 5:45–6:15 PM. Bible Blasters!

Age Range: 3rd–4th Grade Days/Times: Wednesdays from 5:15–6:15 PM, September–May Description: Bible Blasters is an out-of-this-world Wednesday night Youth Group designed just for 3rd and 4th graders. Kids should bring Bibles, curiosity, questions, and friends! We’ll share dinner from 5:15–5:35 PM in the Fellowship Hall, then move to Room 207 to blast into the Bible, play games, do art, and pray from 5:35–6:15 PM. Register online.

VBS is for kids ages 3 ½–2nd Grade. Mystery Bus is a 2-day service learning and fun adventure for kids in Grades 3–5 (Mon/Tues or Wed/ Thurs). LIT (Leaders in Training) is a leadership training program for kids who have completed Grades 6–8. All are welcome! Register online in early February, 2020.

On January 26, 2020, 2nd graders will receive a special Spirit in the Pines gift and a blessing in worship to celebrate this mile marker.

Age Range: 2nd–9th Grade youth campers, 10th Grade–college age counselors, adults, and families Days/Times: All year Description: Spirit in the Pines Camp, owned and operated by St. Andrew, is located on Pleasant Lake, one hour north of Brainerd, MN. The camp serves St. Andrew members and is also an outreach ministry. Summertime at Spirit in the Pines Camp is filled with age specific Youth Camp sessions during the week. Family Camp sessions run on weekends, and over the 4th of July holiday. Retreats are held during the fall and winter months.

Spirit in the Pines Camp Health Care Volunteers

Age Range: Adults Days/Times: Mid-June through Mid-August Description: Tend to the scrapes, bumps and bruises of our campers while dispensing large doses of TLC. These volunteers also ensure that the campers receive their medication as directed by parents.

Spirit in the Pines Camp Staff - Paid Positions

Age Range: College Age/Young Adult Days/Times: Late May through Mid-August Description: Become part of the Camp Staff Team that plans, implements and supports the summer camp program. As a paid staff member, you live at camp for the summer (with time off, of course!). Join in the ministry of sharing God’s love through Christ with campers, counselors and families. Age Range: Parents of middle school and high school kids Days/Times: Various evening times Description: Raising our kids in our world today takes a lot of effort by parents. To provide support and encouragement to parents, Parenting Forums are designed to provide thoughtful, faith-based, and practical counsel on this. In this year’s Parenting Forums, our St. Andrew pastors are partnered with members of the community to address two topics: technology and teaching Christian essentials.

Join us for Family Ed Night during St. Andrew Confirmation as we hear a large group presentation on family time from Pastor Matthew Fleming, Pastor Peter Johnson, Reilly Orner, Middle School Youth Director, and others. Description: Assists Building and Property Staff in completing various maintenance projects both indoors and outdoors. These projects include such things as painting classrooms, striping our parking lot, and landscape clean-up and work.

Sunday Morning Hospitality: Coffee/Rolls

Age Range: Adults, parents and children, and confirmation age youth Days/Times: Once or twice a month for 20 minutes–1 hour Description: To assist Sunday morning hospitality, help prepare, assist, serve, and provide light cleanup of coffee, rolls, and various refreshments. You support our Sunday Refreshment staff.

Offering Counters

Age Range: Adults Days/Times: Mondays from 8:30–10:30 AM Description: These volunteers gather in the Conference Room to count and record our weekly offerings. Holidays and other special weekends often require additional help and time. We provide calculators, pens, paper, coffee, and yummy treats!

Worship Quiet Bags Youth Team

Age Range: 5th–12th Grade and adult leaders Days/Times: Flexible, refresh Quiet Bags once or twice a month Description: To prepare and refresh the worship quiet bags for young children (6 months–5 years old). Bags are offered to families to use for these young children during the worship services. Periodically, we meet to make new items for the bags.

Office Volunteers

Age Range: Adults Days/Times: Office volunteers are able to work at their own pace and time. Let us know you are interested and we will contact you when there is a need.

Description: Assists our office staff with a variety of administrative projects throughout the year. Projects include filing, data entry, copying, and stuffing/sealing envelopes for bulk mailing.

Age Range: Adults Day/Time: Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings Description: Now that we have our Security System in place, we are ready to create procedures and support training of volunteers who will help keep our worshippers, children and others in our building safe on Sundays and Wednesday.

Our Ministries Church Committees Benevolence Fund Committee

Description: The Benevolence Committee is an appointed team of leaders responsible for overseeing St. Andrew’s Benevolence Fund.

Funded by congregational offering, the Benevolence Fund supports extraordinary missions either inside or outside the church. Applicants showing Christian service and growth in financial giving are encouraged. Generally, the Benevolence Fund supports projects and partnerships that are on-going in nature.

Mission Endowment Fund Committee

Description: The Endowment Committee is an appointed team of leaders responsible for overseeing the St. Andrew Endowment Fund.

Created by proceeds from the sale of St. Andrew’s West campus, contributions to the fund may be made by members and friends of St. Andrew to support the broader mission of the church. The Endowment Fund supports new and unique ministry initiatives within the church, local community, and synod, as well as global initiatives.

Generally, grants are provided for one-time or start-up funding, not ongoing partnerships and operations.

Days/Times: Meets upon request Description: Those with special gifts and interests in the financial matters at St. Andrew, the Finance Team exists to support and guide the financial processes, procedures, and decisions of the finance staff and Congregation Council.
