ince 2007, sports training professionals have worked hard to move the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Academy forward and give it the international dimension, dynamism and modernity that characterise it.

Today, in order to give form to the progress made in recent years, the Academy becomes the SL16 Football Campus.

This name change also marks the step towards a new generation of young girls and boys been trained with modern tools adapted to tomorrow’s athletes more than those of yesterday. SL16 Football Campus is also aimed at all active football enthusiasts interested in training including players and educators.

Based on the foundations laid by the Academy, the team of SL16 Football Campus is more determined than ever to work closely with parents to bring about the sporting and academic success of our young recruits, while exporting their often-acknowledged savoir-faire internationally. What is our aim? To grow, evolve and surpass ourselves to achieve excellence, while maintaining the ‘Standard Spirit’ based on the passion and fervour of everyone involved and the love of our colours.

OUR STRUCTURE AND DEVELOPMENT PLAN The SL16 Football Campus is a continuation of the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Academy.

This new identity rewards the work done by a team of professionals who strive on a daily basis to create the best possible training sessions and coaching for the young potential champions who play on the pitches of the campus.

We develop our young people based on cycles, in which the content, determined by an “SL16 project” by Standard Liège, sets out to detect players’ areas for improvement to round off and thus improve their performance.

SL16 FOOTBALL SCHOOL OUR FOOTBALL SCHOOL STANDS OUT FOR THE SPORTS TRAINING IT PROVIDES FOR ITS YOUNG PLAYERS, I.E. THE SEARCH FOR ATTACKING, CREATIVE AND SPONTANEOUS PLAY. TO ACHIEVE THIS, IT COMBINES A HEAD OF DEPARTMENT, A COORDINATOR, A PSYCHOMOTOR THERAPIST, COACHES, RECRUITERS WHO WORK FOR THE DEPARTMENT AND HEAD OF THE INTRODUCTION PROGRAMME. THESE PEOPLE PROVIDE TRAINING ROUTINES THAT STIMULATE REFLECTION, SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND SELF-CONFIDENCE FOR AROUND ONE HUNDRED AND TEN CHILDREN.

The first objective is that these young people, guided by our coaches, should -above all- enjoy playing and learning. We apply techniques specially designed by the Football School, e.g. objective cards, the use of a ‘Playmobil pitch’ and the “Ma vie au Standard” (My Life at Standard) notebook.

OBJECTIVE CARDS have the special feature of using images adapted for children to help them understand the principles linked to other activities of the game and to complete assignments. These may either be objectives that the children choose themselves or are set by the club.

PLAYMOBIL PITCH is an innovative tool that gives players a three-dimensional view of everything that can happen on the pitch before, during and after a match. This helps them to acquire a better understanding of the game and facilitates their learning.

These three educational tools are designed to reinforce communication, understanding and exchanges between the youngsters and their coaches.

THE “MY LIFE AT STANDARD” NOTEBOOK allows a child to assess his/her progress and reinforce what has been learned. This tool will help him/her to express emotions and feelings before and after every effort throughout the learning process. It is important for us that our young people should learn how to channel their emotions.

LEARNING BALL SKILLS This training programme for our players, spread over ten months from July to the end of May, consists of three training sessions per week and one match activity at the weekend. Nevertheless, the U8 category will only have two sessions per week, to allow the children to enjoy other activities that are separate from football. In all case, we ensure that all of them master the four aspects of football:

MINDSET

TECHNICAL SKILLS

We will explain the “Standard mentality”. It develops three skills that we consider essential: determination, self-confidence and concentration when playing.

In the Football School, learning technical skills is the biggest item worked on during training sessions.

Individual technical skills and ball control are the priorities.

MOTOR SKILLS

TACTICS

Thanks to a logical, scientific and progressive development designed by our psychomotor specialist, a guideline is provided so that the young players can master the basic body movements. This programme helps to reduce the risk of injury, empowers the players on the pitch and helps them gain a full range of general motor skills. One of the particular features of the Football School is that it organises motor skills sessions once a month, including swimming, cycling or orienteering.

The tactical aspect allows the child to improve his technical learning curve on the pitch through diamond-shaped and 5-against-5 or 8-against-8 games in the second half of the year.

As a result, our trainers and coaches work hard so that the children develop these aspects from a very early age, with particular emphasis on the quality of dribbling, passing, ball control or losing your marker.

SL16 ELITE OUR ELITE PROJECT IS DIVIDED INTO THREE TRAINING CYCLES, AS FOLLOWS:

For these three categories, we aim at developing the trademark of Standard Liège, i.e. a basis for playing that is standardised, attacking and of quality. To do this, our players are continuously coached by a full professional staff including a director, coordinators, doctors, trainers and goalkeeping coaches, and also physiotherapists. Everything is set up so that our players reach the pro team in the best possible condition. This is why the training sessions we provide -11-a-side matches- focus on the technical, tactical, mental and physical aspects.

The development of technical and tactical aspects is characterised, above all, by attractive attacking play going forward, but also by technical runs to reach a high-level standard of football. Our training sessions also allow the development of a mindset and an attitude by the player in which the objective -before, during and after a match- is to encourage to take responsibility for one’s actions, both on and off the pitch at all times. A player with a good mindset is more productive, which is why we work with our partner company Smart Mind1, a specialist in this area.

As for the physical aspect, we have implemented the Standard Project, a physical preparation programme adapted to the needs of each young player in each category. Through this methodology, each of our training sessions has its own particular intensity, duration and theme, thus allowing us to achieve the desired physical objectives.

1. S mart Mind develops tools designed for athletes and coaches, helping them to optimise their sports performance through sophisticated coaching techniques based on a positive attitude and training in mental skills.

THE DISTRIBUTION OF TRAINING SESSIONS PER CATEGORY IS AS FOLLOWS: Shield-Check U13 – U14 > Four training sessions per week + one match.

Shield-Check U15 – U16 > Six training sessions per week + one match.

Shield-Check U18 – U21 > Between six and eight training sessions per week + one match.

The three cycles begin in mid-July and end the following 31st May. Each year is divided into two macrocycles, which are then divided into mesocycles (four-week cycles). In each mesocycle, themes such as endurance, speed or strength are chosen and worked on over microcycles (one week). This enables the players to maintain their physical capacity while the sporting requirements increase as the category is higher.

All training loads are carefully monitored by our physical coaches in order to avoid over or undertraining.

Through our Passion-Pride-Fervour philosophy and our aspiration to professionalism, we aim to end up with an elite-level and standardised working methodology to carry out the Elite Project correctly.

DUAL PROJECT

Our priority is that our young talents should do well at school. To achieve this, we work very closely with parents and a series of partner schools and boarding schools to ensure that our young recruits receive their education under the best possible conditions.

WOMEN’S SECTION

OUR WOMEN’S SECTION HAS AROUND 130 PLAYERS IN EIGHT TEAMS, OF WHICH FIVE ARE RESERVED FOR THE U11 TO U16 CATEGORIES AND THREE TO THE FIRST TEAMS... FROM U11 TO U16, OUR CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ARE PLAYED AGAINST BOYS, WHILE THE FIRST TEAM MATCHES ARE PLAYED AGAINST GIRLS.

The training we provide to our young girl players mainly consists of three sessions per week, each one working on the development of psycho-motor aspects and technical skills.

So that our girls can take the pitch in the best possible condition, they are continuously coached by a technical director, coordinators, physical coaches, trainers and goalkeeping trainers, as well as a full medical staff.

However, we attach great importance to the schooling of all our young female players. To achieve this, their progress at school is constantly monitored to ensure that their academic objectives are fulfilled. For those who wish, we work with two partner schools: Institut Sainte-Véronique and IPES Seraing.

Detecting young talents

Initially, strengthening the links at provincial level, and extending to regional and national levels in a second stage.

INTERNATIONAL NETWORK IN APRIL 2018, STANDARD LIÈGE SIGNED A PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH THE CHINESE FOOTBALL FEDERATION RESULTING IN NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES ON BOTH SIDES AND AN INCREASING NUMBER OF INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.

SL16 FOR ALL DETECT DAYS The Detect Day, organised during the Autumn school holidays is aimed at previously enrolled U8 to U12 children. Children who have shown aboveaverage ability during the tests will have the opportunity to meet up with our ‘elite’ teams of the SL16 Football Campus.

TRAINING COURSE DURING THE EASTER HOLIDAY (APRIL) This course gives U7 to U12 players from all backgrounds the chance to live their passion for a whole week in our training centre. It combines training sessions, a visit to the stadium and meeting the players.

This programme offers sessions (free of charge) to U7 children who want to train at Standard Liège.

OPEN TRAINING SESSIONS This formula allows U7 to U10 players from other clubs to benefit from complementary training sessions (subject to a fee) at Standard Liège, every other Sunday morning from 10:30 to 12:00.

SL16 TROPHY TOURNAMENT (MAY) This international tournament brings together U16 teams from all over the world so that they can take advantage of our facilities.

PARTNER CLUB TOURNAMENTS Organised to showcase our partnerships and the network project.

EF ACADEMY IN 2019, A FOOTBALL ACADEMY FOR CHILDREN BETWEEN 8 AND 13 YEARS OF AGE (CATEGORIES U9, U10, U11, U12, 13 AND U14) HAS BEEN SET UP BETWEEN STANDARD LIÈGE AND EMILIO FERRERA.

It sets out to foster the practice of football through ‘apprenticeship modules’ and scouting for and recruiting talented players from the regions of Brussels and Flanders.

The originality of the project also lies in the football programme, the innovative training methods and a special weekly schedule.

This new initiative, inspired by top-level professional football, is an efficient and practical response to the daily reality of children in terms of their school routines and family balance.

SL16 INNOVATION HUB THE SL16 INNOVATION HUB IS A MULTIDISCIPLINARY CENTRE DEDICATED TO INNOVATION WITHIN SL16 CONSISTING OF SPECIALISTS IN DIFFERENT FIELDS (TECHNOLOGY, EDUCATION THEORY, PHYSICAL TRAINING, ANALYSIS…).

IT SETS OUT TO PREPARE THE TRAINING PROGRAMMES OF THE FUTURE BY LOOKING FOR THE BEST TOOLS TO OPTIMISE THE PROGRESS OF YOUNG PLAYERS TOWARDS THE FIRST TEAM. The Innovation Hub is in continuous contact with leading figures in sports research and technology.

SL16 FOOTBALL CAMPUS: MORE THAN FOOTBALL THE SL16 FOOTBALL CAMPUS DOES NOT ONLY MOULD FOOTBALLERS, IT WORKS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET TO PLAY THIS TEAM SPORT.

The project is an excellent reflection of this desire to go beyond playing football to acquire values such as perseverance, humility, demanding a lot of oneself, loyalty and -above all- tolerance.
