Relax in our friendly foyer coffee shop or in the historical ante room by the Gallery where a variety of hot and cold snacks are available including sandwiches, baguettes, melts, jacket potatoes, bagels and freshly baked cakes and pastries as well as a children’s menu. Hot and cold drinks are also served including teas, freshly ground coffees, cappuccinos, soft drinks etc and help yourself to a newspaper.

GALLERY AND CELLAR BARS

Open every evening for those attending Arts Centre events. There are two entrances in to the Cellar Bar: one within the Arts Centre ante room and the other located on St George’s Square around the corner from the Arts Centre front door. Remember, if you are attending a performance you can beat the rush by preordering your interval drinks and a discount is available on presentation of your ticket after shows and films!

Acoustic nights are held regularly and organised by Cellar Bar Manager, Andy Croft.

Once again, Stamford Arts Centre is proud to be partnering with the Stamford Shakespeare Company for their 2013 season at the Rutland Open Air Theatre at Tolethorpe Hall. This year the productions are ‘Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes’, ‘The Comedy of Errors’ and ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Welcome It’s been a fantastic start to 2013 - we have welcomed several thousand cinema visitors alone into the centre since the beginning of January, and would like to thank you all for your overwhelming support. No rest for the wicked however, as we head straight into summer with another packed season of events.

Icarus Theatre Collective present a compelling version of Romeo and Juliet, before writer and Celebrity Masterchef finalist Hardeep Singh Kohli turns his witty mind to the world of curry, cooking up a storm on stage that lucky audience members will get to sample. Music lovers can look forward to the excellent King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys and The Celtic Fiddle Festival.

There’s no chance for families to be bored this summer either, with the introduction of Comedy Club 4 Kids (p.11) to tickle the funny bones of all ages. The exceptional Tall Stories visit with My Brother the Robot (p.17) and there will be special workshops including a Pirate Creative Day and the return of our popular poetry session War of Words throughout the holidays.

HARMONICA WORKSHOP

In response to the success of the last two years, potters of the Stamford area will be getting together for the third time to put on a two day pottery market in the Ballroom.

This celebration of ceramic beneath the chandeliers will feature stalls displaying the work of over 20 local potters, a rolling show of ceramic themed films and a charity tombola.

Free admission.

This is Chekhov’s last play, written in a race with his early death. He calls it a comedy, but it deals with a Russia in transition and the effect of this on everyday life. He lifts ordinary situations into the level of human and universal.

American bluesman Larry Garner has found a true musical soul mate in British blues veteran Norman Beaker. Garner may have paid his dues in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while Beaker cut his gigging teeth in northern England with people such as Jimmy Rogers and BB King; put them on stage together, and they are definitely drawing from the same musical roots. Garner’s powerful vocals and expressive musicianship make him a natural front man, added to this Larry has a wonderfully expressive voice, is a fine guitarist and a great performer. A gig not to be missed.

Harmonica master Steve continues to write and deliver all new workshops especially for Stamford Arts Centre! Whether you’re a complete beginner or more advanced, play pop, rock, blues rhythms, cool country wails, pitch bend all the way down and jam along with rockin’ solos. Harmonicas (diatonic) in C are available on the day for £8.

THE ACADEMY OF ST MARTIN IN THE FIELDS Academy of St Martin in the Fields has an enthusiasm for fresh, brilliant interpretation of the world’s most loved classical music. It is renowned for its polished and refined sound, rooted in outstanding musicianship. Formed in 1958 from a group of leading London musicians, and working without a conductor, the Academy gave its first performance in its namesake church in 1959. Today, the Academy performs some 100 concerts around the world each year, with as many as 15 tours each season.

In a town somewhere in the British Isles, something strange has happened. The rain pelted down, the canal broke its banks, a lot of debris got shifted… and a holy statue burst up through the floor of 12 year old Veronica Sheehan’s bedroom. Though no one is more surprised than Veronica, she soon sets about using her new found spiritual skills to help her ailing community. Mystical and mesmerising, this latest offering from the fantastic Stamford Senior Youth Theatre is not to be missed.

As part of Lincolnshire One Venues (LOV), a network of ten arts venues, we are working with young people to create a range of exciting activities and events for and by young people across the county.

The LOV Festival which happened in April was programmed by young people and many of the artists and facilitators were also young.

These weekly workshops work towards three productions a year, two of which are performed in our in-house professional theatre. The groups are currently working towards their main productions which take place in May.

SSYT is a unique young people’s theatre company for 15 to 22 year olds who are committed to creating exciting original and innovative theatre. They are currently busy preparing for their summer production of The Miracle to be performed here at the Arts Centre on 12 & 13 July.

Students in the 8 – 12yrs groups are putting together a production of ‘What A Knight’ by Craig Hawes. As well as performing, the groups are learning about all backstage elements of theatre production including painting their own scenery and designing their costumes.

The 11 – 16yrs groups are now putting the final touches to their production of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Following these productions, the groups will be working towards their last project of the year, ‘Pandora’s Box’, which will be performed somewhere a little bit different.

Flowers, landscape, still life: stay figurative whilst giving your work a contemporary twist, or be led by Catherine into the realms of abstraction. All levels of ability are welcome.

You may use watercolours, oil, acrylics or draw in pen or pencil. If you need to buy painting materials it is suggested that you wait until after the first session, when Catherine can advise you on purchases.

Based around observational drawing and painting, with a particular emphasis on portraiture and the human figure. There will also be occasional still life sessions to support the development of skills in estimating correct proportions, rendering tone, colour and texture, and in arranging a pleasing composition. Students will learn to create a sculpture in clay working from a model. Beginning with building the armature, Jonty teaches you to recognise the basic forms, planes, symmetry and proportions. Once completed, your sculpture will be prepared for firing in the kiln for you to pick up on a later date.

Take this opportunity to be guided in drawing the nude figure. Experienced artists and beginners are equally welcome to this challenging but rewarding class.

This is a quiet spot where painters can be comfortable and undisturbed for hours. An excellent place for practicing skies and middle distance trees. Five minutes drive to Barrowden pub. If the weather is poor the day will be held in the Arts Centre art room and Catherine will provide drawings for landscape painting.

Catherine discovered this site last summer and painted one of the views. There are long views across the rolling Rutland countryside, to the south-west and south-east. One could paint one view in the morning and another in the afternoon. Two minutes drive to Glaston pub.

If the weather is poor the day will be held in the Arts Centre art room and Catherine will provide drawings for landscape painting.

From this lovely spot the fields and pastures stretch away to the west towards Harringworth and to the east towards Barrowden. There is a choice of subjects from a simple composition of fields, trees, a glimpse of a church spire to a more ambitious view encompassing part of the viaduct. Eight minutes drive to Morcott pub.

If the weather is poor the day will be held in the Arts Centre art room and Catherine will provide drawings for landscape painting.

This group class is aimed at any age and ability. It’s a fun social environment to learn how to understand and play music. The class is tailored to individuals and interesting activities are given.

Large mixed media figurative works based upon childhood memories and cherished toys drawn from direct observation. Places of emotional significance and costumes are all combined to create a tableau of narrative episodes. Travel and displacement is a theme running throughout the work, in conjunction with a desire to render what is worthy of attention.

Whatever you are planning, you can hold your event, meeting, class or reception at Stamford Arts Centre. Situated in the preserved, historic town centre of Stamford and only a short walk from car parks and the train station, we have a wide range of spaces available for private or company hire including the beautiful ballroom, smaller meeting rooms, rehearsal and art rooms. On special occasions the theatre can be available for hire but this is dependent on the theatre and cinema programmes.

Ballroom - Situated on the ground floor, the magnificent ballroom is a large, versatile space with full disabled access.

Blue Room - Directly next door to the Ballroom, the Blue Room is often hired together with the Ballroom dependent upon your requirements.

The Blue Room can seat up to 40.

Art Room - Our art room is a lovely light space perfect for arts and craft workshops.

Rehearsal Room - Open rehearsal space on the first floor for up to 40 people Burley, Exeter and Ireson Rooms - Various sized meeting rooms on the first floor with maximum capacities of 8 and 16 people.

CHILDREN

You can collect your prepaid tickets from the box office at any time leading up to the performance, or we can post them to you for a charge of 60p.

We have baby changing facilities on the ground floor. There is a children’s menu at the coffee shop and high chairs are available.

Please note that no children under the age of two are allowed in the theatre/cinema. If you have a child of 8 or under at a workshop we recommend you do not leave the building.

DISCOUNTS Discounts (priced in brackets) vary from show to show. Generally they are available to Artscene members, children & students, unwaged, over 60s, disabled patrons & their companion. Occasionally, discounts are unavailable for certain events organised by outside organisations, for which we are only a ticket agent.

GROUP BOOKINGS If you are planning to bring a large group (of 10 or more) to a show, please contact the box office.

GIFT VOUCHERS You can buy a Gift Voucher for any amount you require from the box office.

EXCHANGES OR REFUNDS We regret that we are unable to exchange tickets or to refund money. If an event is sold out, we will try to resell unwanted tickets - an administration fee of £1 per transaction* is charged for this service and we will issue a credit note for you to use against a future purchase. *Only charged if tickets are sold on.

RESERVATIONS Tickets for live events (not cinema), may also be provisionally reserved over the phone.

Payment must be made within three working days or half an hour before the performance, whichever is sooner. Failure to do so may result in the tickets being released for resale.

ACCESS The ballroom, gallery, box office and coffee shop are all on the ground floor and easily accessible. There is a platform lift to the theatre with two spaces for wheelchairs. Please let the box office know in advance if you wish to reserve a wheelchair space and if you require an adjoining seat for a companion. The theatre has an induction loop – hearing aids should be switched to the T position. Toilet facilities are available close to both the theatre and the ballroom and we have baby changing facilities.
