From the Principal
Toni Riordan PRINCIPAL
As the Principal of our incredible girls’ school, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education in young women’s lives, particularly when given the tools, support, and confidence to succeed. I am immensely proud to guide an organisation that enables young women to envision and accomplish great things.
St Aidan’s Anglican Girls School has consistently set the benchmark for education in Queensland. We have seen our alumni go on to become trailblazers in STEM, fearless leaders in business, changemakers in medicine, and innovators in the Arts. Our success stories are a testament to the innovative programs, pedagogy, and facilities that we have developed.
In 2024, our 95th Anniversary year, we delivered significant milestones, including being the highest achieving Queensland school for ATAR in 2023 and victors in prestigious sporting competitions such as All Schools Touch. While our girls’ ATAR numbers are impressive, it’s how they use them and embrace their next adventure that truly matters.
Building community, strong connections, and a sense of belonging nurtures a space where young women can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally; where they are encouraged to think critically, lead boldly, and embrace their unique strengths. Through the care and generosity of community, we can continue to change and evolve to nurture not only this, but future generations.
Every dollar invested in girls’ education yields enormous returns, not just for individual girls, but for entire communities. Join us in this mission to empower future leaders and changemakers.
Chair of Foundation
Dr Anne Kruger FOUNDATION CHAIR
St Aidan’s is a leading institution for quality, nurturing education for girls. In 2023, St Aidan’s was named “Queensland’s best” in terms of ATAR results, according to a statistician-backed report. Yet, as you’ll see in the stories throughout these pages, we are so much more than academic excellence.
The generosity of our donors creates a lasting, meaningful impact on our girls and young women. The Foundation is incredibly grateful for the time, talent, and treasure shared by our community. This generosity recently made possible the creation of Aidan’s Place – a state-of-the-art cafeteria that also serves as a hub for innovative learning, collaboration, and community. Likewise, the new Pavilion precinct in the Junior School fosters critical thinking, play, and connection with the outdoors.
As we look ahead, our focus is on developing innovative spaces and classrooms for the Senior School to enhance student experiences. Ensuring a sense of community and wellbeing remains a top priority as we approach the next stage of developing Ambiwerra Sports Precinct and the world-class Aquatic Centre.
In addition to facility developments, scholarships ensure that girls who may not have the means to attend St Aidan’s can experience its transformative education. The St Aidan’s Creeth Endowment Fund, established in November 2024, will soon support needs-based scholarships for students from Year 10 through Year 12.
The stories shared at Alumni gatherings and within our community reflect the deep, lasting impact of our school’s philanthropy foundation. Established in 1929 by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent, St Aidan’s continues to nurture and empower young women, building a legacy of giving to serve future generations.
The Impact of giving to a girls’ School
Giving to St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School is about empowering young women. Your commitment goes beyond the school gates. It’s about creating a future where young women thrive in every aspect of life. At St Aidan’s, girls are free to break through gender stereotypes, pursue their passions, and discover their full potential in an encouraging and nurturing environment.
Your support creates an environment that builds confidence, driving gender equality in fields like STEM and pursuits such as leadership. At St Aidan’s, we build self-esteem, reduce social pressures, and create spaces where girls engage openly with mentors (Star Tutoring) and peers, preparing them to succeed in a complex, ever-changing world.
By giving to St Aidan’s, you are investing in a brighter, more equitable future. One led by courageous and capable young women. Together we can make a difference!

A Landmark Gift from a Generous Alumna
A testament to the donor’s deep commitment to education, gender equality, and her personal philosophy of giving back.
In an extraordinary display of philanthropy, a St Aidan’s alumna, now in her 80s, has made the largest living donation ever received by a girls’ school in Queensland — and possibly Australia — amounting to a remarkable $3 million.
Creeth Endowment Scholarship
This gift, which will have far-reaching implications for the school, is not just a financial contribution but a testament to the donor’s deep commitment to education, gender equality, and her personal philosophy of giving back.
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has a personal connection to the school that goes beyond the typical alumni experience. She was a student at the school in her youth, but, sadly left at 15 due to family financial constraints and entered the world of work. That abrupt end to her education left a lasting impression on her, especially as the idea of attending St Aidan’s was imprinted on her from a young age. Her Mother was also a St Aidan’s alumna, and it was with much excitement that our donor started Senior school here.
For years, this alumna has harboured the desire to help future generations of girls—especially those without the financial means— to have the opportunities she was deprived of. She understands
CREETH ENDOWMENT Scholarship
all too well how difficult it can be to achieve one’s dreams without the right resources. This deep-rooted understanding of education’s importance, combined with a life philosophy rooted in giving, led to her decision to establish this generous endowment.
The donation is named for a family friend of her husband’s mother, May Creeth, who was born in 1854 and realised her lineage would not be continued. It was important to her that May Creeth, herself a philanthropist, artist, and a Quaker, be honoured in this way.
The $3 million donation is earmarked specifically to fund scholarships for young women in Years 10 to 12 who face financial challenges that could prevent them from attending St Aidan’s.
The donation is significant not just for its size, but also for its personal meaning. The alumna’s own life story is intertwined with the value of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance. When she was forced to leave school at a young age, she channeled her efforts into the workforce, but she never lost sight of the importance of education. After many years of working, she went back to high school and then university where she attained a Bachelor of Arts. She believes that no girl should have to sacrifice her dreams for financial reasons, and that education is a transformative tool that can unlock countless possibilities for young women.
Her philosophy of philanthropy is rooted in a desire to empower others. She believes that those who are fortunate enough to achieve success have a responsibility to lift others. “Philanthropy isn’t just about the dollar amount. It’s about making a meaningful impact,” she said.
“I want to provide opportunities to young girls who have the drive but lack the means to pursue their dreams. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation of women leaders.”
The alumna’s donation is not only the largest ever given by a living alumna in Queensland, but also the most substantial philanthropic gift in the history of the school. It sets a new standard for giving and highlights the powerful role that individuals can play in shaping the future of education. This gift will ensure that St Aidan’s continues to serve as a beacon of opportunity for generations of young women, many of whom may never have had access to such an education without this kind of support.
As the alumna looks ahead to her legacy, she hopes her gift will inspire others to follow suit and support the next generation of students. She has always believed in the power of women to make a difference in the world.
INVESTING IN SPACES
Donating to the St Aidan’s Building Fund is a powerful way to help create safe, modern learning spaces for our students. These contributions fund essential upgrades, like new technology and resources, which enhance the educational experience.
We take great pride in the capital development completed over the past few years, including the opening of the worldclass Sports Performance Centre, Aidan’s Place and the warm and inviting Pavilion classrooms. St Aidan’s continues to grow, not just in numbers but in the strength of its pedagogy and innovation and, with that, comes the need to have purposeful spaces and resources for the girls to grow and thrive.
As we continue the march towards our Centenary, we are excited to continue the rollout of the Master Plan. One of the highlights of the next stage of the Master Plan is the construction of the new Aquatic Centre at Ambiwerra – a pool and facilities to rival the best.
We are also focused on improvements to Le Fanu, a new Senior Studies Centre and enhanced outdoor education areas and programs. These developments are made possible by the approval of our campus Master Plan under a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) in April 2020. This crucial step will enable future campus growth while allowing us to address immediate educational needs. To expand our footprint and improve facilities for both students and staff, we have acquired seven properties. The refurbishment, extension, and demolition of several houses will create space for administration and student accommodation, a parking area, and potentially a new playground.
Join us in shaping the future of St Aidan’s by investing in the Building Fund, ensuring that the next generation of students have the state-of-the-art facilities they deserve to thrive and succeed.

Investing In Education
Scholarship
The Winifred Davenport STEM Scholarship is awarded through a rigorous selection process for one exceptional student studying in Years 7 to 10. The recipient not only excels in these key areas but also embodies the qualities and values that are at the heart of the St Aidan’s ethos.
We congratulate the recipient of the 2024 Winifred Davenport Scholarship, Minali Ariyarathne, in Year 8. We spoke to Minali’s father about what impact the scholarship has had on her and her family’s life. This is what he had to say:
“Sending our daughter to St Aidan’s is a privilege. As parents, our goal has always been to provide the best opportunities for our children, and we’re confident that the education she’s receiving here is second to none. The scholarship has played a pivotal role in ensuring that she can continue to benefit from this exceptional learning environment. Beyond academics, it has given her the confidence to thrive, offering access to outstanding resources and a broad range of extracurricular activities.
Her academic performance is impressive, but what truly stands out is her engagement in the full spectrum of school life. She participates in five different sports—AFL, touch, netball, cross-country, and cricket—while also being active in the music program, performing in two bands, the school choir, and even participating in debating and volunteering. This breadth of involvement reflects her enthusiasm and the opportunities the school provides to explore diverse interests.
As parents, we appreciate not only the academic excellence but also the values the school instils—religious, moral, and ethical principles that guide her growth. On a practical level, the scholarship has alleviated significant financial pressure. With three children at school, the financial burden would have been considerable, making the support we’ve received even more valuable”.

Our St Aidan’s alumnae understand the power of the education and community that helped shape their lives.
By creating a scholarship for the descendants of alumni, you can help ensure that future generations of young women continue to benefit from the same empowering experience. This scholarship not only honours the rich legacy of St Aidan’s but also offers descendants of Old Girls the opportunity to build on the traditions of excellence, leadership, and sisterhood that have been passed down through the years. Your contribution will make a lasting impact, helping to deliver an exceptional education accessible to the daughters, granddaughters, and beyond, of those who have come before them.
In doing so, you will be strengthening the connections between past, present, and future generations of St Aidan’s women.
Over the past two years, we have been fundraising for the Alumni Scholarship Fund to provide financial support for future generations of young women from alumni families. We have received many generous donations, however, to help us offer the first scholarship, we need a little more support. Every additional contribution to the Alumni Scholarship Fund will bring us closer to providing the opportunity for a deserving student to continue the tradition of excellence.
1929 Society
Bequest Program
1929 SOCIETY
The 1929 Society is a special St Aidan’s group of recognised individuals who have made a planned gift to the school. Planned gifts, also known as bequests, are charitable donations made through wills, trusts or other estate planning instruments. The 1929 Society celebrates these individuals during their lifetime to acknowledge their contribution.
Every year an event is held to celebrate the members (Custodians) of the society, usually held in the Gold Room of the Queensland Club. This special High Tea is attended by Custodians, alumni, past and current staff, past and current Council Directors, past and current parents, and Foundation Directors. The event has created a sense of community around planned giving and gives us a chance to express our gratitude to these extraordinary members of the community.
Janette and Brian Gibson are one such couple that are proud Custodians of the Society. The Gibsons have been dedicated members of the school community for numerous years, playing a crucial role in shaping the fabric of our school. Their involvement, along with their family, exemplifies the closeknit, supportive atmosphere that defines Saint Aidan’s. Years ago, they made a heartfelt decision to include a bequest in their will, demonstrating their deep belief in the power of education, especially for girls. Their generous gift is not just a financial contribution, but a legacy aimed at empowering future generations of students.
Education has always been important to Janette and Brian, who witnessed firsthand the growing significance of educational opportunities for women. They understand how education can empower individuals, enabling them to create better futures for themselves and their communities. For Janette and Brian, this bequest represents more than just financial support – it’s about giving young girls the freedom to pursue their passions without barriers.
Janette’s own educational journey began at St Aidan’s in her early years, which were marked by war, a polio epidemic, and post-war austerity. During this time, she saw the struggles and deprivation of her peers’ families which greatly influenced her view on service and philanthropy. The female role models she encountered, including the founding Principal, Christine Hartland, instilled a belief that girls could achieve anything, long before it became a widespread notion.
The Gibson’s commitment to St Aidan’s has passed through generations, with daughters and granddaughters attending, and great-granddaughters now enrolled. St Aidan’s has not only provided academic opportunities, but has also fostered a sense of community and belonging that has been central to their lives. Their decision to include St Aidan’s in their wills was driven by a desire to give back to the place that has given them so much.
Because of their bequest, Janette and Brian are Custodians of St Aidan’s 1929 Society. Every bequest, whether large or small enables membership of the 1929 Society.

Annual Giving
Building Fund
Contributing to the Building Fund supports the growth and enhancement of our campus facilities. Gifts to this fund help us build and maintain state-of-the-art classrooms, sports facilities and outdoor spaces that create a dynamic learning environment. Every donation, large or small, plays a key role in making St Aidan’s a vibrant and inspiring place for current and future students. Your support will help us build a better tomorrow.
Giving Day
Each year, we invite our community to participate in Giving Day—a special day of philanthropy—where we come together to raise funds for scholarships, and development of state-of-the art infrastructure. Your contribution ensures our students have access to the best educational opportunities, year after year, and helps maintain St Aidan’s legacy of excellence.
Volunteering
Volunteering your time and skills is a powerful way to give back to our School community. Whether you help organise events, or lend your expertise to special projects, your involvement has a direct impact on the lives of our students. Volunteering also fosters a deeper connection with the School, allowing you to see firsthand how your efforts help create an environment where young women thrive. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students and the broader community.
How a Tuition Fees Raffle Helps Transform Lives
The Tuition Fees Raffle offers a unique opportunity to contribute while potentially winning a year’s worth of tuition fees (if you have a currently enrolled daughter). By purchasing a ticket, you not only have the chance to ease your financial burden but also support our school’s Scholarship Fund, helping ensure access to education for future students. This is a meaningful initiative with far-reaching benefits for both the school and the community.
Last year’s winner, the Eskinja family were obviously thrilled with the result. Being the winning ticket holder, Jana Eskinja noted the relief and joy they experienced, knowing that a full year’s tuition would be taken care of by the win. With two daughters in Junior School at St Aidan’s, this has helped the family enormously.
2025 raffle tickets are on sale soon. Stay tuned and be sure to enter for a chance to win!

“As a donor, I choose to support a girls’ school because I believe in empowering young women to reach their fullest potential. St Aidan’s creates a unique environment where girls are encouraged to lead, explore their passions, and build the confidence needed to excel in any field. Knowing that my contributions help dismantle stereotypes and provide opportunities for girls to thrive in areas like STEM and leadership gives me immense satisfaction.
Supporting a girls’ school is about investing in a future where young women are prepared to tackle challenges and shatter barriers. The evidence is clear, graduates from single-sex girls’ schools often outperform their peers academically, take on leadership roles, and pursue diverse and ambitious career paths.
My gift ensures that these transformative opportunities remain accessible, equipping the next generation of women to lead and innovate in an ever-changing world”.
Alisha Twidale - St Aidan’s Parent
“Both of our daughters have attended St Aidan’s from the Junior School in 2015 to the Senior School in 2024. In addition, Melissa attended St Aidan’s. Throughout our time at St Aidan’s, we have experienced firsthand its supportive community and strong school spirit. Both our daughters have loved their time at St Aidan’s and made lifelong friends. Although our time at St Aidan’s has come to an end, by giving back we wish to help St Aidan’s continue to provide high-quality education and to support current and future students fulfill their potential at St Aidan’s”.
David and Melissa Goffage - St Aidan’s Past Parents, Alumni and Past Foundation Director
“My decision to become a donor to the school in which I work is a testament to my belief in the transformative power of education for girls. For me, the act of giving is not merely a financial transaction but a deeply personal endeavour that echoes the values of my maternal lineagewomen who despite hardship and limited choices, prevailed to leave a legacy of strength and endurance.
I see my donation as a choice to extend my commitment to the education of girls beyond the classroom and as an investment in a world where my students can thrive, unencumbered by the societal barriers that once hindered my own mother, aunts, and grandparents. By supporting the scholarship fund, I feel a sense of actively dismantling those barriers, ensuring that the next generation of St Aidan’s girls’ life outcomes are not left to chance”.
