ABOUT US
St. Anne’s-Belfield School is a nurturing and challenging age 2 through Grade 12 co-ed academic community in Charlottesville, Virginia. Since 1910, we have cultivated curiosity and a lifelong love of learning so that our students may become, in the words of our founding headmistress Mary Hyde DuVal, “strong in body, broad of mind, tender of heart, responsive in soul.” Small classes, expert and caring faculty, and a culture of mutual respect provide the foundation for students to grow into exemplary citizens and visionary leaders.

POINTS OF DISTINCTION
• Integrated Math: By the end of Integrated Mathematics 4, students will have completed the equivalent of Pre-Calculus, which includes: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
• AP Capstone™: St. Anne’s-Belfield is one of only 15% of Virginia public and private high schools to offer an AP Capstone, and is the only school in Charlottesville/Albemarle to offer this distinction. Our AP Capstone diploma program is based on two yearlong courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. No senior is enrolled in both AP Seminar and AP Research this year.
• Chapel: Our weekly services are student- and faculty-led, inclusive of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs, and provide a reflective community experience.
• The Pathways Program: Students earn a note of distinction on their transcript by engaging in rigorous experiential learning, completing an internship, serving the school community, and giving a public presentation of their work. Pathways for 2025-26 include Civic Engagement, Environmental Studies, and Arts Management.
• Research: 100% of our four-year students engage in research over the course of their high school career, including a required major research paper in Grade 11. Approximately 45% of our student body is involved in an intensive research project each
year, such as Senior Capstone Thesis, Independent Study, or Senior Seminar.
• Senior Seminars: Each senior is required to take one Senior Seminar. Many elect to take two. Students collaborate with faculty and experts in the field in a yearlong experience. Several are modeled on college-level courses.
• Biotechnology and Ethics Advanced Senior Seminar: Students receive training in a variety of techniques used in research, medicine, and forensics, including column chromatography, protein electrophoresis, and immunological assays.
