OUR COLLEGE

Valete Tom Barnett (Year 11) student passed away tragically on 24 February. Our thoughts are with the family. Lazo Delkovski passed away peacefully at 87 years of age. Grandfather to Ethan current (Year 10) and Nicholas Naumovski (Year 12). Rest in peace. Trevor Earle, former Foundation Chair (1997 – 1998) passed away on Thursday 3 December. Trevor was a member of the SJC Men’s Association working team for many years along with former Principal Peter Cannon on the same team. The famous Ken Moorfoot was their Captain. The Foundation was somewhat struggling during the initial establishment and Peter asked Trevor if he would take over and be the Foundation Chair from 1997 which he accepted. Trevor was in the role for two years until Kevin Costa became Chair in 1999. Trevor began life as a fitter and turned at Ford, and he became a highly successful Manager of the Engine Plant. Jan Earle, is one of longest standing volunteers here at Joey’s, in particular for her work in the canteen feeding generations of boys for over 30 years. She is also a College Foundation member, McNeill Society member and a Josephine. Deepest Sympathy to former wife Jan, and their three children, Nicki, Natasha and Nathan (SJOC 1993), the Foundation will always be appreciative of Trevor’s role in the early years of our Foundation to become what it has today, in our 25th year. Shirley Haste. Proud Grandmother of Micah VCE 2020, Matthew (SJOC2017), Samuel (SJOC2015), Mother of Mark (SJOC1975) and David (SJOC1987) passed away on 12 November. A passionate former drama teacher at Gould College and CRC, Shirley was involved in combined productions with SJC in the 80’s. Rest in Peace. Ian Gerlach passed away peacefully at 82 years of age. Grandfather to current student Lachlan Doyle (Year 11). Rest in peace. May Hager passed away locally at 93 years of age. Great Gran to current student Jaxon Mohr (Year 11) and Ethan Mohr (Year 8). We are thinking of you at this sad time. Katrina Honner has passed away from her brave battle with cancer. Mother to John (Year 11) and Alana (SHC Year 8). We are holding you close in our prayers. Leonard King, 81 years of age, passed away peacefully at Luson on Vue Grovedale in August. Len was a much loved and loving father and grandfather of Angela (staff member) George, John (Year 12) and Sophia Gionis (Year 10 SHC). Len enjoyed the simple things in life and was loved by everyone. Many happy memories have given his family and friends much comfort following their loss. May he rest in peace. Knox Abe (Year 9) Passed away tragically. God is there to give you comfort. Ruth Mary Lilian Lynch age 86 years. Passed away peacefully at Brentwood aged care on 23/8/20. Grandma to Cormac Lynch (Year 12). Her grandsons Jackson Lynch, Blair Kelly and Mason Kelly are all Old Collegians. And her granddaughters Abbey Lynch, Tarah Kelly, Sian Kelly and Georgia Kelly all attended Sacred Heart College.

Fr Ian Joseph Mackintosh OMI, 82 years, (SJOC 1957) With great sadness the Australian Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate announced the passing of Fr Ian on 19 February. Fr Ian attended St Joseph’s from 1949-1957. He joined the Oblate Novitate at Sorrento in 1959 and went on to study at Cedara, South Africa. He was ordained in Geelong on 8 December 1965. Fr Ian served in education ministry at all three Oblate Colleges, and was rector of Mazenod College WA and then Mazenod College Victoria. From 1993 he served in parish ministry at St John Vianney’s Springvale North, St Pius X Dernancourt and St Mary’s Star of the Sea Sorrento before retiring in 2020 to Camberwell. Shane McCarthy passed away at 68 years. He was a loving grandfather and father, was heavily involved in the Bannockburn community especially the bowls club. Shane was Grandpa to current student Liam Mc Carthy (Year 11). We are thinking of you at this sad time. Maureen Moynihan 75 years. Loved sister of staff member Damian Moynihan. Passed away peacefully on 2 February in Box Hill Hospital. Allan John Panozza (SJOC1951) passed away on 23 October. Allan was a pupil at St Joseph’s College in the mid 1940’s. He excelled in athletics. Allan was a Knight Commander in the Order of St Gregory the Great, and an esteemed leader in Catholic Charismatic Renewal both in Australia and internationally. He will be remembered by many members of SJCOCA. Hamish “H” Parke (SJOC 1999) Passed away peacefully at McKellar Centre on 22 February surrounded by his family. Youngest son of Kate and Ted, Loved brother of Cam (SJOC1989), Rich (SJOC1989) and Georgia. Loving father of Deacon (Year 9) and Ryder (Year 7). husband of Emma, brother in law of Janne, Jodi and Aaron. Fantastic ‘Uncle H’ to Taz (SJOC2017) Fin (SJOC2018) and Poppy, Dane, Harry, Cameron (SJOC2016) and Kealy, Lachie, Juddy and Holly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Hamish’s family and friends at this difficult time. Wray Taylor, 85 years (SJOC 1952) Father in law of Neal Arthurson (staff) and Grandfather to Tom passed away at Warrilly Aged Care Geelong on 28 February. Wray was a Boarder during his time at the College. Much loved member of the family, St Joseph’s sends its sympathies at this sad time. Hugh Tighe sadly passed away. Grandfather to current student Harry Gower and Joey’s boys Tom Attard (SJOC 2012), Hugh Attard (SJOC2014), Peter Attard (SJOC2016) and SHC students Isobel Gower (2015) and Hannah Attard (2017). We are thinking of you at this sad time. Joanne Whittenberg 94 years, mother of Jo Rigoni (staff), Joanne had five sons attend St Joseph’s College and Jo and her sister both attended Sacred Heart. Grandmother of Tom (SJOC), Nichola and James. An amazing gardener, and muchloved family member. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. Kevin Woodruff a long serving staff member and the last Christian Brother to teach at St Joseph’s College. We pray for the repose of his soul and the consolation of his family and the Christian Brother’s Community.
