Food Studies
Cooking was more rewarding than ever this year… Food Studies teachers have always encouraged students to practice their cooking skills at home, and students did this more than ever throughout 2020. Time spent at home during remote learning, allowed students to produce new recipes and some family favourites, to provide comfort and connection with others.

Foods students across each year level, including our junior cooks, proudly forwarded photos of their delicious dishes, to their teachers who were suitably impressed with their efforts. These are just a few images supplied by many of our creative students of their special dishes from both semesters this year. Year 10 students successfully designed their own recipes in this year’s PBL projects, including an original burger suitable for a popular burger business’ menu. VCE Food Studies students were able to produce some more complex dishes during their practical activities, in our new senior Food Studies kitchen introduced earlier in the year. The new facility saw our hard working senior students enjoy their busy practical classes, where they performed practical skills to a high standard. We welcomed Vanessa McCarthy and Laura Edwards, to our Food Studies teaching staff this year and I would like to thank

them, along with our other dedicated team members, Leanne Rivett, Nicole Lucas, Leanne Sims and Katrina Sherman, for all of their amazing help and valuable support throughout the school year. Happy cooking!

Food Studies this year for me, has been one of the most exciting subjects and also one of the most informative I have done over my time at school. One of my favourite topics this year was Indigenous Australian Foods, when we cooked delicious sliders and learnt about the intensity and demand for indigenous foods. Overall, Food Studies has been a delight to participate in, there has been challenging work at times, but the learning opportunities presented to me and the fun involved with cooking amazing meals has been well worth it. I would certainly encourage all students to consider Food Studies as a subject. Jack Doyle - Year 11
