A Message From Our Leaders

Tim PresidentReillyof St. Xavier High School

Dear Friends, As valued partners in our program mission, we are excited to share with you the impact we had during the 2021-2022 school year. As we reach the 5-year anniversary, together we have created a world-class program! Your generosity to share your experiences has allowed students to learn, grow and gain real-world experiences as they explore careers and pursue their calling. In a competitive college and professional landscape, our St. X students are more prepared than ever to make informed decisions about career choices that tap into their passions and skills and set them on a course for a purpose-filled life. As Men and Women for Others, thank you for playing a vital role in shaping our next generation of St. Xavier leaders.

“One of the great parts of Career ConneXions is that it’s win-win. Our students get get to learn about careers and maybe shorten their time in college for that, but our guests and alumni that come in are building connections that will keep some of the amazing talent in this building available for their companies. I think that a lot of employers are concerned about finding new employees who are equipped to be successful in their companies, and if there’s one thing we can say for sure, it’s that we have 1,400 young men here who are a great asset to the world.”

Overall Program Job Shadows

"

“Career Connexions has had a huge impact on my interview and professional skills. Interacting with adults outside of the building who are working in various career elds has allowed me to broaden my network and gain knowledge in many di erent industries, including engineering, business, and even healthcare. I have also made many good friends and developed new relationships through being a part of the ambassador team. Overall, Career Con-nexions has been an integral component of my St. X experience.” - ZachBohn ‘21 “Thank you so much for letting me shadow in the clinical office and surgical room. I had a desire to pursue Opthamalagy but knew very little about what the day to day life would be like. You allowed me to clarify my questions and motivated me to pursue this field. It was truly an honor to learn so much from youhopefully one day I will be doing the same for prospective students. – Nick Wolfe ’22 (Shadowed Dr. Stephan Dixon'03)

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see what work is like for a software engineer. I was curious to learn what the industry is like in the real world and this shadow helped push me to continue my path. I love the idea of being able to create something out of code. You were an amazing host and I am incredibly grateful for your help in the search for my future.” Austin Schraivogel

Internships

“I've gotten to learn incredible skills in my marketing internship at LOTH. I've also learned a lot about being in a corporate environment and interacting with more adults and working professionals. An internship gives you a much greater view into what it means to be a working adult and lets you directly explore careers you may want to pursue.” Dominic Olaguera-Delogu 22

Volunteer

Kelly Schoembs (VP of Organizational Development) and Keith Weyler (CFO) have volunteered as speakers, job shadow hosts, and internships hosts since 2019. Kelly recently commented on the internship program, “We have had an intern in our marketing department and would highly recommend it! All of the candidates and interns have far exceeded our expectations. Several projects were accomplished thanks to the productivity and contributions of our interns. Anyone who brings on an intern will be blown away by the contributions the students are able to make, and it does a lot to help the organization connect to the younger generation and think about the advantages of bringing fresh perspective into the organization. In fact, we’ve been able to continue to work with them after the internships for ad-hoc projects.”

Dr. Andy Beardslee (Class of ‘96)

Kelly Schoembs (son Ryan ‘25) and Keith Weyler (sons Jackson ‘20, Evan ‘22)

Dr. Andy Beardslee has volunteered with our program since its inception in 2018 as a roundtable speaker, job shadow host, and internship host. He has given 50+ students insightful experiences. One commented “Thank you so much for allowing me to shadow you, I really enjoyed my time watching what you do as a physical therapist, and the atmosphere that you help create. I have learned many new things since our meeting and my knowledge about physical therapy has de nitely grown a lot. I appreciate and respect the work that you put forth toward your patients and the people around you…I appreciate the time that we spent together.” – Jason Zhao ’22

Job Shadowing

"I just finished shadowing Austin and I must say it was the best session for me so far. He is an eager learner and I was able to tailor our time together to meet his needs. He asked great questions and wasn't shy! We covered a day in the life of development and operations at Great American. We finished with things to focus on as he gets into the computer science/programming profession. He would be a great candidate for a summer internship. So glad we were able to make this happen." - Jim Kohl '81

Brian Robinson

Stephan Dixon '03

Brian Robinson (CFO) was new to the job shadowing program this year and gave 10+ students incredible experiences throughout the year. Students were able to observe real business experiences through meetings, discussions with functional leaders and hands-on interactions at the Hebron, KY operations facility. Brian commented on the job shadow student, “I was very impressed with his questions and thoughtfulness…as was every one who met with him. He represented himself and St X very well. He and I debriefed over lunch. He had time with a lot of business experienced professionals and genuinely good people.” And from one student, “What I learned was extremely valuable, and it will play a pivotal role in my future. I loved to hear all of the di erent opinions and pieces of advice I was given. This was my rst job shadow, and RelaDyne set the bar high!”

(son Elliott ‘23)

"You have no idea how excited and pleased I am to hear that they had a great experience. It was an incredible experience getting to know both of these young men and allowing them to gain some experience in the world of medicine. ” - Dr.

In September, Career ConneXions kicked off programming with an educational topic on Email basics led by Rhonda Arledge (Alex '23). Delivered to over 150 students in several classes and the Learning Center. This course was blessed by the English department and learning these skills early is essential!

Email Etiquette Roundtables Return From Corporation to Classroom - Ethicon

With COVID restrictions behind us we were able to return to our Roundtable networking events! Business, Engineering and Healthcare were voted by students as the top professionals they wanted to meet and engage with. ~200 students attended these events and 99% of students rated them as “Excellent”or “Very Good”

. Experience Day

The Ethicon Team delivered a fantastic event for the 3rd year in a row! Yolanda Carter(Cordarius‘23), Ryan Reece(‘13) and over 15 Ethicon employees brought this event to life! Students heard presentations, selected breakouts by function (sales, engineering, finance, tech, etc.) and engaged with a college co-op panel. An additional ‘hands-on’experience allowed students to test out Reel

An important component in preparing our young men for internships and college applications. Rhonda Arledge and Joe Piehowicz ('22) developed on-line toolkits for resume writing and interviewing. Christie Warren(Coke) and Brent Gravlee(Clif Bar) shared tips for interviews. 124 students then practiced 1:1 with our team of 37 interviewers!

COVID hit our internship program hard last year. We are extremely happy to report this program has fully rebounded with over 70 company partnerships and 110 positions across a diverse set of roles including accounting, marketing, tech, graphic design, law and more. The summer income for our students is worth $250,000! 91 students applied, received offers, and have started a summer experience that will shape their futures for years to come. activation at Wendy's was back by popular demand!
