Developing your child’s Independence & Individuality

St Hugh’s is a school where we believe wholeheartedly in the partnership between home and school to ensure that every child is fully supported throughout their time with us. As Headmaster of a community where any child can succeed, I am proud to play my part in every child’s journey. Please come and see us in action; we look forward to meeting you!

We provide the widest spectrum of opportunities within academia, art, drama, music, technology and sport to allow each child to find their talent. No other school in the area can match the opportunities on offer at St Hugh’s. A truly outstanding educational experience for all of our pupils.

“Hearing about how much my son gets to do in one day is amazing, they are so lucky to have so much choice.” St Hugh’s parent

We foster confidence, self-esteem and those all important social skills.

Highlighted as a real strength in the most recent ISI Inspection, our extensive sport and hobbies programmes enable pupils to take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom to develop their character.

“Seeing my son be given the opportunity to stand up in front of the school on Speech Day was such an honour.” St Hugh’s parent

“The teachers allow the children to be children and this is a really important aspect of the fantastic education on offer at St. Hugh’s.” St Hugh’s parent

Outdoor learning is an important part of the curriculum. Our open spaces and facilities are the perfect setting for children to explore and thrive. From Nursery to Year 4, children participate in the Forest School, while pupils from Years 5 and 6 have outdoor learning skills lessons.

Inspiration

“I never feel like I can’t say something in class, my teachers are so understanding and I love their lessons.” St Hugh’s pupil

Small class sizes ensure our staff can nurture each pupil as an individual.

They are passionate about teaching and learning, and their energy and enthusiasm enable pupils to develop their full potential, building a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge.

Opportunities abound for pupils to flourish and develop individuality, whatever their abilities and aptitudes. Life skills are gained through mentoring, team sports and outdoor learning. They are further supported and reinforced by assemblies, form time discussions and other PSHCE activities. This experience equips children for life by developing well-rounded individuals.

“Being a Sports Leader has really helped me understand how to communicate and has given me the confidence to lead small groups.” St Hugh’s pupil

“I started flexi-boarding and then I loved it so stayed more often. Now I’m going to boarding school next year and I feel really ready.” St Hugh’s pupil

Boarding is a happy and valuable experience, made popular by the weekly and flexi-boarding options that are available.

Pupils enjoy the special ‘home from home’ atmosphere that boarding offers, thereby further enriching their time with us.

Each child is encouraged to be curious and to persevere. Our Learning Dispositions, supported by our pioneering work in Visible Learning, develop inquisitive thinking and a love of learning. Pupils are inspired in our well-stocked Library, two science laboratories and dedicated subject-specific classrooms.

“Every child is encouraged to find something that they love and the school celebrates this.” St Hugh’s parent

“Pupils’ social development and collaboration are excellent” ISI Report, 2018

“St Hugh’s helps all pupils to develop and fulfil their potential”

Success

“Pupils successfully develop their potential beyond the classroom”

“When I got my certificate from the Headmaster for being a Persevering Parrot, I was so proud” St Hugh’s pupil

During their time with us all pupils practise the core values of our pupil promise – to be honest, kind, helpful, respectful and responsible. They leave us confident, articulate, well-grounded and ready to move on to their senior school of choice.
