a premium content fashion magazine Five years ago this month I decided to launch Contempo Magazine. So, this is our 5th year anniversary! Seems like all this started up only months ago but that only says something about old age, so I won’t go there. I do want to thank all the people who helped us endure the launch and success of Contempo all these years. A special thanks to all the photographers, models, contributors, our printer-Grafiady of Monterrey, Mexico, and a very special thanks to the Contempo Magazine staff, and most importantly our advertisers, many of whom have been with us since publishing our first magazine five years ago. Since launching the magazine we have learned a lot about making our publication a successful medium for our advertisers and readers. As time goes by, we hope to keep moving the model forward so that we can bring you more information that is entertaining and useful from the world of fashion.

ortencia Camargo is the wife of Eli Camargo, mother to four sons, and an executive in the oil and gas service industry based in Mission. She and her husband, Eli, are compassionate about local charities and the arts, specially when both are involved. Mrs. Camargo has over 16 years operating in the support activities for the oil & gas service industry. The companies she oversees operate primarily as vacuum truck service providers and rig location & land development to the oil industry. Her area of service runs south of San Antonio to the Rio Grande Valley and outwards to Laredo, Texas.

Her duties include; estimating the quantifiable characteristics of services and profitability, Evaluating Information to determine compliance with industry standards, monitoring and controlling resources in regards to supplies and inventory to stay within company budget per tasks, developing objectives and strategies; write business project bids and proposals, both for clients and with banks, provide consultation to advise clients or customers of field issues or concerns regarding their specific project, resolving conflicts, negotiating, handling disputes, complaints, change orders, and solving grievances and conflicts between company hands, vendors or clients.

“Zih... What?” Morgan Freeman asked when Tim Robbins described the cozy and remote village where they should reunite in the 1994 Columbia Pictures film Shankshaw Redemption, introducing American film audiences to the pristine beaches of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo along the Mexican pacific coastline north of Acapulco. Since then this tropical paradise has become a familiar setting for other big screen movies and a popular destination for American and European tourists who want to trade in chilly winter weather for warm, sunny beaches burdened only by coconut palms, papayas and mangos.

IXTAPA ZIHUATANEJO

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo boasts a semi-tropical climate year around with an average temperature of 83 degrees Fahrenheit and 300+ days of sun per year. The rainy season that extends from late June through September usually brings evening showers leaving days clear for lots of outdoor activities. Much like other popular destinations along the Mexican Riviera you will find there coconut palm trees on brilliant white sand

beaches, and lush green mountain landscapes descending into calm blue bays. But, what makes them so special is the proximity of these two very different villages to each other (only 4 kilometers apart) and what they have to offer visiting tourists. Ixtapa represents the newer, more modern side clustered with 5 and 4 star resorts and hotels. But it also offers an array of boutique hotels, a modern port, golf courses, and excursions, while Zihuatanejo favors 1 and 2 star accommodations, and more reasonably priced shopping and dining. Both have a variety of beachscapes and fun things to do there. Because they are so close to each other, we found ourselves bouncing back and forth between the two, depending on our preferences at the moment. Cab fare between the two towns is about $5. If at all needed around town the fare is around $3. There is an incredible amount of vacation activities to do and see in Ixtapa including site-seeing, fishing, golf, snorkeling, shopping, hand-gliding, surfing, and sunbathing. A number of five and four star resorts dot the coastline of Ixtapa’s beaches where you

will find some of the best therapy spas in the world with treatments right on the beach, including the famous Mexican resort chain, Las Brisas Resort and at La Pacifica Resort. Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo has over 20 miles of beach between them. In Ixtapa, the principal beach is Playa El Palmar where the main strip of Ixtapa hotels are located. It is named for the old coconut plantation that used to exists there. before Ixtapa. Playa El Palmar is where you will find a mass of water sport activities and wonderful views of evening sunsets. At El Gato Beach in Zihuatanejo, there are many quaint beach restaurants and some great snorkeling spots. All together there are 18 different beaches in the area. Both Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are known for world class deep sea fishing. We chartered a 42 foot boat in Zihua for $520 U.S. dollars equipped with a flying bridge, outriggers, and ample cabin area with plenty of room to handle our party of ten. We caught five sailfish and several small tuna in the first hour out. The trip included a ceviche lunch and beverages. We stopped for snorkeling on the way back in at the famous sunken monument, “King of Kings” statue that is submerged at a depth of 12 feet off Playa Las Gatas beach. We returned to Zihuatanejo later that evening to dine at a well established beach restaurant in Zihua called “La Perla” They offered to take our catch and prepare it for us using “a la talla” style for about four dollars per person including all sides and our non-alcoholic beverages. A premium shopper’s delight, the commercial district of Ixtapa has a cluster of 10 plaza’s only a 5 minute walk away from the major beachfront hotel zone. The plaza vendors include high fashion boutiques, restaurants, night clubs, beachwear shops, a cinema, a miniature golf course and other entertainments in all price ranges. Ruben’s, a large patio burger joint right behind Senor Frog’s in the commercial district, is popular with tourists and locals alike. Grab a charcoal broiled cheese burger there and fries for about $3.50. The greater area is home to several craft traditions including ceramics plates and complete dinner sets, carved hard-wood

On the bay of Zihuatanejo is Playa Las Gatas-a calm and seclude beach with an underwater reef constructed by an ancient civilization. Getting around in Ixtapa is naturally ecologic because just about everything is within picturesque walking distance from your residence. There is literally no reason not to hump it with things so close by! But even then, the ride to Zihuatanejo is only 10 minutes away for about five dollars split two ways is nice. Getting to Ixpapa-Zihuatanejo can be easy, fast and economical as there are several good choices. From McAllen you can fly out on Continental Airlines, connecting in Houston and on to Ixtapa. Or, you can fly Aero Mexico from Reynosa to Mexico City, and on to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport which is 15 minutes to most accommodations by airport transfer cabs. If traveling via Areomexico take a cab all the way to the airport, crossing at the Pharr bridge which is only a quick five minutes
