About the Cover: Our Covergirl/Contempo Pioneer this month is Norma Hinojosa of Mission, Texas. Norma is the owner/broker of two real estate agencies in the Upper Valley and also publishes RE/ MAX Elite-RE/MAX in the Valley Real Estate Guide. Missy’s Modeling Studio’s Annual Show Highlights O
ver 800 people gathered to see Missy’s Modeling Studio’s Annual Style Show, that this year, started off with a fascinating world tour of fashion. when Missy’s senior models paraded the runway with authentic costumes representing selected countries around the globe in traditional dress. More than 200 models participated in the two hour long event where camera flashes seemed to go off like strobe lights at a 1970’s discothèque. The entire affair was spectacularly arranged with special lighting and live feed video. A special modern dance performance was presented by Paloma Limas and her troope of dancers from Step it Up & Dance of McAllen that included Missy’s award-winning daughter/dancer, Marina Chairez. Marina also performed in a special and very personal dance with her mom, Missy Vargas who is sending Marina off to UT-Austin in the Fall. Missy’s is the largest and most recognized modeling school in the Valley, and has lead the industry for over 15 years. Jaber Estate Winery just finished bottling the Black Spanish of the 2011 harvest. This was the last of the wines that was aging in the cellar. The grapes were harvested from the very first biggest vineyard of Rio Grande Valley, on July the 13th of last year, and following fermentation, the wine was put in barrels to age for 8 months. The vineyard located on Jaber farm in Hidalgo County is planted with 3 acres of Blanc du Bois (white) and 5 acres of Black Spanish (red). This is the very first time that wine is commercially produced in Rio Grande Valley making it historical.

The bottling of the Blanc du Bois in February this year and finally the Black Spanish, this month of May is a testimony that grapes can be grown in this area and wine can be produced successfully and tastefully. In fact, Jorge Jaber hired a consultant Enologist to help him craft his wines to their full potential. Indeed the opinion of the consultant is that both of those wines are showing incredible uniqueness and personality as well as perfect accompaniment to the Rio Grande Valley cuisine. The Blanc du Bois freshness and incredible nose of fruit is a perfect match to seafood or local fish such as Texas Red fish, shrimp or flounder.

Prior to joining Carolina Ballet, she studied on full scholarship at Vienna State Opera Ballet School where Malea was invited to perform and understudy roles with the company's corps de ballet during the 2007 season. She also trained at Miami City Ballet School on full scholarship where she performed with Miami City Ballet in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker.
