The Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh was founded by William Grandy in 1864 in the basement of the First National Bank building in Williamsburg. The bank soon outgrew that space and moved to The Dime’s current location, 275 South 5th Street, in 1908. The Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh became a publicly traded company in June of 1996 and, in August 2016, officially changed its name to Dime Community Bank. In 2016, the property was sold to developers Char-

ney Companies and Tavros Capital who applauded the designation of the exterior of the Bank as a city landmark on March 27, 2018 by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, and re-envisioned the location as a dynamic destination to live, work and play in the one of Brooklyn’s most exciting neighborhoods. Today, The Dime offers 177 extraordinary rental residences in the adjacent, 23-story terra cotta clad tower, soaring against the backdrop of the Williamsburg Bridge, the East River and the skylines of Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.
