an adu for a typical chicago lot fall 2022
this accessory dwelling unit was designed to accommodate a personal living space as well as an office working area. the adu is split into 3 different zones, the private/domestic zone, the public/working zone, and the middle zone that is shared between the two as needed.
the private space includes the bedroom with an en suite bathroom and living room. the public space includes the office space. the neutral zone is comprised of the kitchen as well as a separate bedroom.
the core of the adu encompasses a revolving wall that can be positioned in different locations depending on the use of the unit. the first placement of the wall allows an open flow throughout the adu, allowing workers and private residents to use any area of the dwelling. the second position closes off the office area, allowing the resident sole access to the adu, including the kitchen and living room. the following position splits the adu, allowing the resident access to the living room, while the office workers gain access to the kitchen. the final positioning of the wall closes off the bedroom, allowing the office workers access of most of the adu.
the windows in the living room and kitchen protrude outward while the window openings in the bedroom and bathrooms sink in, denoting the relationship between private and public spaces. the window sills in the office area have increased surface area, allowing them to be used as desk spaces as well.

the goal of the project was to design a poolscape that investigates a relational scenario that integrates the pool with a selected theme, the chinese new year. using organic shapes and curves to create the final design, the goal in the design of the poolscape was to establish a choreography, creating a relationship between the building and the landscape. tadanori yokoo’s asahi beer ad and grace farms by sanaa were the primary precedents during the design process. there are 3 primary structures that are connected by open walkways. the first building is a welcome center that includes a terrace for a cafe that it sits atop. the bridge that runs above the largest pool connects it to the 2 story spa center. a set of stairs from the second floor creates an opportunity to occupy the roof as well. the following walkway then connects the spa center to the final pavilion, leading to the pool at the end. the design process included 3d modeling the structure using rhinoceros. after transporting the linework into adobe illustrator, color, texture, figures, and shadows were incorporated. the color palette, as well as the inclusion of different scenes happening throughout the drawings were inspired by yokoo’s asahi beer ad. the end resulted in an axonometric drawing and a section perspective.

an object was designed using MOS element house as a precent while utilizing the verb “multiply”. after a continuous process of modification, the final model encompasses 3 levels. the top most level is comprised of 3 shapes, each shape made up of 3 separate pieces. the second level contains 6 semicubic shapes, each made of 12 pieces. the final, bottom level has a total of 9 cubes, each cube made up of 27 individual pieces. as each level goes down, the shapes become more structured and cube like.

collages fall 2022
using various 3d modeling techniques in rhino, pebble house adu (so-il, 2021) and tree snake house (luis and tiago rebelo de andrade, 2012) were combined to create an original volume. elements such as context and style were added to create digital collages. environment and mood were produced by the addition of the physical landscape and characters that indicate the scale of the volume. different views and distances were demonstrated throughout the collages.

diagram fall 2022
a diagram was designed to show the construction sequence of the volume. the diagram shows the volume originally as a block of stone that was carved and sculpted into the form that it is now.
