It is with immense pleasure I share with you our vision for the future of Edgeborough; a vision which cherishes the culture and ethos of our school whilst unapologetically setting the compass for the next chapter.

Head’s Welcome

This document sets out how we intend to enhance provision across key areas of the school. It involves investment in infrastructure, but also, links clearly to our philosophy and values which form the foundations upon which our pupils will truly grow.

EDGEBOROUGH HAS TRAVELLED SUCCESSFULLY THROUGH MANY PHASES IN ITS LONG AND PROUD HISTORY.

rom our establishment in 1906 as a Preparatory School in Guildford, through our move to Frensham Place in 1939, to our becoming co-educational in 1992 and, more recently, our joining the Charterhouse family of schools in 2021, Edgeborough has undergone significant changes over the years. These changes are now proudly embedded in our culture, forming the heartbeat of our school. As we celebrate our past, we now look forward to an exciting period which will define the next landmark in the school’s journey.

We have every confidence our vision will allow us to build a secure, sustainable, and exciting future for the school, one that meets the needs of modern learners whilst remaining true to the school’s values.

Through their academic, social, and emotional development we take extraordinary pride in giving every pupil at Edgeborough secure roots from which to grow in their Prep School years, in their Senior Schools and in their lives beyond.

We also remain a broad and inclusive school which is proud to be ambitious in striving for each pupil to be the best version of themselves.

EDGEBOROUGH’S VISION IS DRIVEN BY A DESIRE TO PROTECT ALL THAT MAKES THE SCHOOL UNIQUE. WE SEEK TO DO THIS BY ELEVATING EVERY ASPECT OF PROVISION TO SUPPORT OUR ASPIRATION OF PROVIDING FIRST CLASS OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERY PUPIL.

What Edgeboroughmakesspecial?

dgeborough will continue to develop as a school which embodies great kindness, fun and community, where pupils and staff have a powerful collective pride in their school, creating a vibrant and special place to work and learn.

Today’s young people will be entering into a rapidly changing world. The responsibility we hold as we work with parents to support and nurture their children in these formative years is something we are humbled to be trusted with doing.

PRE-PREP:

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE:

The Early Years Centre will be designed specifically for meeting the learning needs of our youngest children. With a focus on creating larger open spaces, the pupils will learn in an environment which encourages exploration; connecting classroom spaces with creative areas and outdoor learning opportunities.

There will be significant space gained from the development of the Early Years Centre as our Reception Year moves out of the current Pre-Prep building. This creates the opportunity to remodel the Pre-Prep building, generating larger free-flowing spaces so that subject areas have the ability to extend the curriculum and provide limitless opportunities to our pupils.

e believe our pupils learn best by interacting outside the narrow confines of a traditional classroom setting. Consequently, our curriculum reflects a broader, more inclusive worldview with learning that is interactive, skills based and pupil driven. The proposed refurbishment and redevelopment of our indoor and outdoor learning environments will fully support our commitment to this approach.

Provision for our youngest learners will continue to lay the foundations for lifelong learning. Purposeful activities will be channelled through play, routine and directed inputs. This will result in key concepts and competencies being instilled to establish a powerful base for each child to succeed. Facilitating this learning experience will be the new Early Years Centre, providing a setting where the child’s needs are central.

Pupils will progress from the Early Years setting with the ability to embrace an enquiry driven curriculum model in Years 1 and 2. Developing independent learning skills will be at the heart of lessons promoting learning ownership, a drive for questioning and a deep-rooted desire to research, explore and understand.

SCIENCE:

The Design and Technology facility will benefit from refurbishment allowing for greater opportunities in modern design. Situated next to the new Science Lab, this part of the school will form a hub for the development of STEM based subjects.

In the most senior years, we will further increase our pupil ratios and levels of individual support so that pupils’ wider development continues to be nurtured. Facilitated through the introduction of our new coaching programme, pupils will have additional time and access to 1:1 support. This will enable us to regularly review their learning profile and set meaningful targets for accelerated growth.

PUPILS’ PRIMARY YEARS ARE CRUCIAL FOR FUTURE ACADEMIC SUCCESS. WE ENSURE THAT TAILORED ATTENTION GIVES THE RIGHT BALANCE OF SUPPORT AND CHALLENGE, WHICH BUILDS CONFIDENCE AND MAXIMISES POTENTIAL.

Senior pupils will have opportunities to develop leadership skills and to take a greater responsibility for our community. This increased expectation of our senior pupils will be supported by the addition of a new Year 7 and 8 Common Room.

This increase will allow for greater teacher to pupil ratios ensuring that each pupil is receiving all that they need to successfully access the curriculum. Teaching and learning in the Prep School will be underpinned by the core principles of the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB). Focus will be on the development of broad cognitive skills, including, the ability to:

We will invest in our dynamic teaching spaces that will see classrooms offer a first-rate setting for progressive teaching in a digital age.

Alongside our two specialist Science Labs, we intend to create a newly built Lab to ensure that access to leading facilities is readily available for all pupils in Y3 upwards. Specifically designed for practical use by our younger pupils, the new Science Lab will open a world of exploration previously reserved for those in the more senior years. Early engagement and access to specialised opportunities will foster engagement and increase academic achievement.

From Early Years through to Prep, activities provide vital life skills and global awareness. Clubs such as Outdoor Woodland Learning (OWL), gardening, charity, dance and LAMDA give application to many of the skills that underpin our wider curriculum framework.

Co-CurricularProvision

P

WE STRONGLY BELIEVE ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS A BROAD AND BALANCED OFFERING OF CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES.

Sport at Edgeborough has always been associated with excellence and inclusion. Individual sports such as judo and tennis are given as much weight as team sports. With a termly rotation of the sports offer, it remains a central force from which pupils gain confidence, build self-esteem, enjoy competition and team camaraderie.

upils will continue to be provided with opportunities to try something new, develop a sense of perseverance and discover hidden passions. Diversity in our co-curricular offering will be a priority as we seek to meet the characters, talents, interests and untapped potential of pupils. This will be supported in an environment where confidence blossoms and students feel happy and fulfilled.

We are thrilled to be able to showcase our plans for additional sport resources on site, allowing us unprecedented growth of our sport provision.

In the meantime, the changing rooms will be relocated to the Sports Hall. The new design will provide a modern and spacious facility, with increased storage along with direct access to the Sports Hall and outdoor sporting facilities.

Alongside wider refurbishment, we intend to convert the previous changing room space into purpose designed music rehearsal and teaching spaces.

dgeborough consistently offers high-class sporting provision, and we are delighted to be able to showcase a number of important projects which will propel sport to even greater levels of excellence.

BOARDING AT EDGEBOROUGH

Boarding and Pastoral Care

Collective spirit and teamwork are evident throughout, learning is consolidated, friendships are firmed. We are witness to an increasing desire from our flexi-boarding community to stay throughout the week, taking ownership of their school experience to maximise every opportunity available to them.

This approach fully supports pupils having ever-increasing responsibility and accountability, which are core values at Edgeborough. Through a variety of pupil led groups such as School Council, onus is placed on pupils to shape their environment and effect positive change within their community, which continuously feeds into growth and support of self and each other.

Our dining hall will transform into a bright, light and well-designed space to cater for increased capacity.

14 15

AT EDGEBOROUGH, WE ARE PROUD TO KNOW OUR PUPILS EXTREMELY WELL.

T

hrough this depth of understanding, we build bespoke pastoral support around each pupil and empower them to support themselves with a ‘toolkit’ of strategies and knowledge that they use every day. Positive mental health and pupil wellbeing permeates through everything Edgeborough does and is at the forefront of our community. Pupils can only thrive and succeed if they feel secure, safe, and supported.

DINING EXPERIENCE

From the youngest to the oldest, enjoying a well-balanced, delicious meal surrounded by friends is one of life’s pleasures.

To support our aspirations in due course our dining room will transform into a bright, light, and well-designed space, with expansion of the catering facilities and an increase to the dining hall capacity. Such substantial change will create a mature dining experience that will support greater social interaction, offer increased food options and be a space that can be used in a variety of ways to support cross-curricular learning and activities.

Plans for the centre of the campus to become mostly vehicle-free will enhance this sense of community by enabling a quieter place for children to play. The absence of traffic during the school day will offer greater freedom for our children to play and socialise. This significant development reflects our commitment to embedding sustainability and environmental consciousness into the culture and heart of our community.

Edgeborough’s plan for both buildings and grounds will benefit every member of the community, now and in the future.

he site is such that pupils are afforded ageappropriate independence and freedom.

Increased parking for parents will be provided, making daily drop off and attendance at fixtures and events easier. A Prep School’s success should be measured by the community it builds around its pupils. Enhanced parking facilities will ensure the community has appropriate daily contact with the school, and the exciting addition of dedicated daily school transport will provide great convenience, as well as ease traffic at peak times.

PEDESTRIANISATION AT THE CENTRE OF THE SCHOOL

Additional car parking facilities are required on the site which will also allow us to pedestrianise more areas within the heart of the school.

There is a busy, inclusive, and purposeful mix of pupils of all ages in and across the school utilising facilities, enjoying shared spaces, and taking their learning outside the classroom and into our magnificent grounds.

Access to the site has been considered fully, with proposed changes to the flow of traffic giving parents the option to park and walk their children or drop and go.

These spaces will afford greater community cohesion and better working environments that support a positive culture and sense of wellbeing.

EDGEBOROUGH IS, TO MANY, A SECOND HOME. A SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHERE PUPILS KNOW THEY CAN BE THEMSELVES AND ACCESS A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY, FRIENDSHIP, AND LEARNING.
