Welcome & Background Information
Welcome to our preschool programs at Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club. We are excited to bring a high quality preschool experience to the Scripps Ranch community. The preschool programs are owned and operated by Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club (SRSRC). Our preschool programs are licensed by the State of California’s Department of Social Services’ Community Care Licensing Division.
Full time and part time preschool options are available Monday - Friday for children ages 3-5 years old who are fully potty-trained (children are wiping on their own and having less than two accidents in a month). Children who are turning 5 by September 1 are eligible for Kindergarten and may not enroll in the preschool programs.
Philosophy & Goals
At the SRSRC preschool programs, our goal is to provide quality childcare in a nurturing and safe environment. We will focus on the whole child (social/emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development) through an integrated curriculum.
We believe that children learn best in a developmentally appropriate environment, with ample opportunity for each child to experience success. We provide opportunity for the children to participate in group and self-directed activities as well as indoor and outdoor play.
Teachers & Curriculum
We provide teachers who are exceptional in their capacities for guiding and caring. They are committed to providing a preschool program that is stimulating, safe, and inviting with a curriculum designed for maximum success. Our teachers meet or exceed California State Licensing requirements and are committed to professional growth and development. Children’s Center teachers that work with your child have been fingerprinted, received a background check by the Department of Justice and the FBI, and received clearance from Community Care Licensing before they can work with the children. In addition, all of the teachers are required to have college units in Early Childhood Education.
Supervision
SRSRC preschool programs maintain a 1:12 staff to
student ratio per our licensing requirements.
Admission Forms
It is the parent’s responsibility to complete the registration forms before the child’s first day of attendance. The forms are in your registration packet and are required by the State of California’s Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division. Your child will not be able to attend the program until all required forms have been completed and turned in. Please keep our daycare within code, by continuing to provide the Center with any important changes in phone numbers, addresses, or names on your emergency or pick-up list.

Bedding
Children who stay a full day and nap at preschool are required to take their bedding home at the end of the week to be washed and returned at the start of the next week.
Sibling and Member Priority Registration
SRSRC members have priority in the preschool programs. To be considered as a member, your child must be listed on your active membership account. Membership accounts must be under the parent/legal guardian with the child listed on the parent’s/legal guardian’s account. This priority system is also used for the waiting list system. You may add your child to the waiting list at
www.srsrc.com.
The Priority Status is as follows and is based on licensing capacity:
1. Current SRSRC Preschool Program participants
2. Siblings of current Preschool or School Age Program participants
3. MEMBERS not currently enrolled in a licensed SRSRC child care program
4. NON-MEMBERS not currently enrolled in a licensed SRSRC child care program

Drop off time is at 8:30am. Early drop-off is not offered. Please arrive no earlier than 8:30am. Children must be picked up no later than 1:00pm for the morning session.
Full Day Program (8:00am-5:00pm)
Drop off time is at 8:00am. Early drop-off is not offered. Children must be picked up no later than 5:00p.m.
Teachers will be taking a head-count at 8:45 am to plan and prepare activities for the day. Please call by 8:45 a.m. if your child will be arriving after 9:00a.m. or if they will be absent that day.
Parents must accompany their child AT ALL TIMES during drop off and pick up times. Please inform teachers of any possible ailments that your child may be experiencing (i.e. didn’t sleep well the night before, woke up cranky, no breakfast, etc.). At pick-up time, please inform the teacher that you are taking your child. (This is especially important if we are out on the playground).
Sign In/Out Policy
California State Licensing requires that each child attending the preschool must be signed IN and OUT of our program with a full and legal signature of an authorized adult. This includes the EXACT time of drop-off and pick-up every day the child attends. Authorized individuals must be over 18 years of age, and on the pick-up list with a valid I.D. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO WRITE ON THE SIGN-IN SHEETS.
Late Pick-Up
Failure to pick up your child by your child’s assigned classroom time will result in a written warning the first time. After one written warning, a $1.00 per minute charge after the designated time will occur. If you’re late and the pick-up file reflects that you have arrived late more than 3 (three) times, the charge will increase to a charge of $2.00 (two) per minute. If your late pick-up file reflects that you have arrived late more than 5 (five) times the charge will increase to a charge of $3.00 (three) per minute and may be cause for termination from program services. Late charges will be billed to your SRSRC account. If by 6pm, we have not heard from the parent and the child has not been picked up, we have no other alternative but to turn the child over to Protective Services.
Daily Schedule of Activities
The curriculum of the program is designed to provide your child with a large variety of activities and experiences to enable them to learn and grow. A tentative daily schedule is posted in the classroom. The following is a sample of the full day preschool daily schedule.
3:30-3:45
3:45-4:00
4:00 –
We are at a children’s place, we move at a child’s pace.
Daily Illness Screenings
SRSRC reserves the right to check participants’ temperatures daily prior to attending programs. Children and staff who have a temperature of 100* or above will not be admitted. Any child or staff member who exhibits signs or symptoms of illness will not be allowed at preschool. In the event that a thermometer is not available, SRSRC may utilize a symptom checklist.
Please ensure that you always have a backup plan in case your child cannot attend the preschool.
SRSRC Precautions
SRSRC is taking precautions to help prevent the spread of illness. These include, but are not limited to, additional hand washing, frequent cleaning of commonly touched surfaces, providing a variety of schedule options, and reinforcing good habits with the children (hand washing, covering your cough, refraining from sharing food, etc.).

Illnesses & Absences
All absences should be reported to the preschool staff on the morning of the day your child will not be attending. For the protection of students, their families, and our staff members, do not send your child to preschool if they have experienced any symptoms of illness in the past 24 hours. Call the center the same day to inform the staff of your child’s symptoms and to report the absence.
Your child should be kept home if they have had any symptoms of any communicable disease in the previous 24 hours (rash, red and watery eyes, etc.). If your child has had any symptoms related to COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath or di culty breathing, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion or runny nose, and/or a new loss of taste or smell) they will not be allowed to enter the facility.
It is recommended that those with symptoms of COVID-19 immediately get tested. Anyone with COVID-19 may not enter the center until they meet the criteria for return as set by the California Department of Public Health for childcare. SRSRC reserves the right to implement a stricter set of criteria.
Children sent home with a fever due a suspected communicable illness will not be able to return without a physician’s note indicating the child is not contagious. The child must be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication for a full 24 hours. Returning students may have their temperature taken upon arrival to ensure the child is fever-free. *WE GO BY OUR THERMOMETER. (Non-negotiable).
If your child has been exposed to, has contracted, or displays signs of a highly contagious disease (such as COVID-19, strep throat, viral infection, pinworms, lice, measles, mumps, chicken pox, scarlet fever, red, watery or mucus filled eyes, etc.) you are required to notify the Director immediately so that the staff can post a note (your child’s name will not be disclosed) alerting other
parents that their child may have been exposed to a contagious disease. As a licensed program, we are required to report certain communicable diseases to Community Care Licensing and the local public health department.
A child who is prescribed antibiotics for an illness may return after at least 24 hours of antibiotics and a doctor’s clearance in addition to meeting all other criteria outlined in this section and as outlined by their physician.
Children may also be sent home or excluded from the program even without fever if they are unable to participate in program activities comfortably. SRSRC reserves the right to send a child home if we feel it is in the best interest of the child.
It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to HAVE A BACK-UP PLAN in the event that the child must remain home or be picked up from the program due to illness. If a child must be picked up due to illness, the parent is responsible for having the child picked up within 30 minutes.
If a child becomes ill while at the program, SRSRC reserves the right to have the child wear a mask until they are picked up.
This guidance may change pending changes in guidance from relevant governmental agencies.
Lice
SRSRC PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE NIT-FREE FACILITIES. Please notify the preschool immediately if your child has been exposed to or has lice so that we can address the issue as promptly and e ciently as possible. (Daily head checks and proper cleaning.) Early detection is key to getting rid of lice and nits quickly. A head check by a teacher/director will be required in order for the child to return.
Accidents/Injuries
All preschool staff are First-Aid and CPR certified and are capable of properly caring for minor injuries that may occur at school. In the event of a non-emergency injury, the teachers will tend to the situation and a detailed “Ouch Report” will be sent home on the same day.
Emergency Injuries/Illnesses
For emergency injuries requiring medical attention or when serious illness occurs, the parent/guardian will be called immediately to pick up their child. The paramedics may be called for emergency treatment when deemed necessary. An accident report from the supervising teacher or director will be written up and given to the parent.
Administration of Medication
California State Licensing regulations do not allow us to administer over the counter medicine (including sunscreen) unless a medication medication consent form is completed. If your child has a prescribed medication please notify the director or teacher with written instructions. The bottle MUST show: name of child, prescription number, name of the doctor and how many times a day the medication is to be given. The parent must fill out the necessary information on the medication consent form provided by the Director. Inform the Director of when the medication was last administered.
There are some medical services that we may be unequipped to handle, such as gastrostomy tube care or ileostomy bag care. If you have questions regarding what services can be provided, please request a copy of our Incidental Medical Services Plan.
Sunscreen
Parents should apply sunscreen to their children prior to the school day. If you wish the teachers to reapply sunscreen, please send your child with spray sunscreen as we currently are unable to physically apply lotion sunscreen due to COVID-19.
Discipline/Behavior Modification
Corporal or physical punishment of any kind will NOT BE ALLOWED at any time. The preschool staff follows a 3 point behavior plan if/when there is behavioral issues in the classroom.
1. Redirection- The teacher will redirect the child’s attention to something more positive.
2. Time-Out- If the child is unable to be re-directed, the teacher will take the child
aside, discuss the issue, and allow them an age-appropriate time-out.
3. Removal from the Class- If the bad behavior continues and becomes too much of a distraction, the child will be removed from the classroom and placed in the Director’s o ce. The child will miss the next activity before returning when ready and will have a note sent home explaining the incident.
In the event of extreme or consistent misbehavior or if your child inflicts bodily harm of any kind to another individual they will receive an “Incident Report”. Repeated misconduct during program hours is unsafe and disrupts the experience of other children. After three Incident/Behavior Reports have been filed, a conference may be called between the Program Director/Teacher and the child’s parents. Depending on the severity, the child may be placed on an action plan to help remedy the situation, may be placed on suspension from participation in the program or may be removed from the program entirely. During a suspension it is the parent’s responsibility to find care for the child. Please note that the Center reserves the right to enforce a temporary suspension at any time depending on the severity of the circumstances. A child removed from the program may be ineligible for other SRSRC programs (including, but not limited to, licensed childcare, drop-in babysitting, and camps) for 12 months. Prior to becoming eligible to return to an SRSRC program, the parents must meet with the child care director of the program for which they wish to enroll their child.
Consistency of enforcement is essential for this disciplinary procedure to be effective. Children are not expected to be subjected to this procedure for minor infractions, although continuous aggressive or disruptive behavior merits a verbal warning and possible dismissal for the day. The Center reserves the right to ask the parent/guardian to make alternative arrangements for the care of your child. The Center’s Director will make all final decisions on disciplinary actions. It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to HAVE A BACK-UP PLAN IN PLACE.
Program Attire
Children should wear comfortable play clothes and tennis shoes, or sandals (please no flip flops or Crocs) for active
play. At this time, children must also wear a face mask daily. A change of clothes is required to keep in your child’s cubby at all times (1 face mask, 2 shirts, 2 shorts/pants, 2 underwear, & 2 pairs of socks). If it becomes necessary to change your child’s clothes and no extra clothes are available, the parent /guardian will be called to bring extra clothing.
Because our daily activities include art, we suggest that you dress your child appropriately (clothes that you don’t mind your child getting dirty).
Snacks & Lunches
SRSRC preschool programs are NUT FREE facilities. Please do not send items containing peanuts, tree nuts and nut butters. There will be a snack break in the morning and afternoon. Snack at this time is NOT provided by SRSRC. Though we provide snack times and water breaks, it is ultimately the parent’s responsibility to send enough food and fluids with the child for the day.
Children will have the opportunity to refill water bottles at the drinking fountain.
Parents are also responsible for providing a nutritious packed lunch with all necessary eating utensils. If your child’s lunch requires refrigeration, please provide a cold pack in their lunchbox. The classroom refrigerator is for staff use only. Our staff is not able to microwave lunch items. For safety purposes, please DO NOT SEND any glass containers, bottles, or any tin can pull top containers (soda, tuna, etc.) Also, please do not pack candy.
For dietary reasons and safety precautions (allergies) children are not allowed to share food items sent from home with their classmates.
Please note: If you fail to provide your child with a lunch, your child will be provided with a lunchable or similar. There will be a $10 charge.
Items From Home
The teachers ask that children keep their personal belongings (toys and valuables) at home. The preschool is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen possessions of any kind. We encourage that you label all clothing and possessions and leave valuables at home.
Nap Time
State Licensing regulations require that each child in a State Licensed full day program is provided the opportunity for quiet/resting time each day. The children have 2 hours nap time each day for full day students. All children are required to rest quietly during this time. Masks do not have to be worn during naptime.
Parents are responsible for providing a small pillow, fitted cot sheet and blanket. The blanket should be big enough to cover their entire body, but small enough to fit into their napping drawer. Bedding is required to be taken home on Fridays to be washed and returned on Monday for the week.
Parent/Teacher Communication
Communication is essential for any program to be successful. We encourage communications between the program staff and parents. Please let the teachers know if your child is on any medication, had a di cult morning, or any other information that you feel is relevant. Besides communicating directly with the parent, the teachers will keep the parents informed of any/all classroom information by:
1. Posting information on the Parent Board (located in the main lobby above the sign in/out sheets).
2. Providing a “Student File Box” (located next to sign in/out sheets). It is the parent’s responsibility to check their child’s file daily for their behavior report and any possible handouts.
3. Planning Parent Meetings and Parent/Teacher Conferences a minimum of one time per year.
4. Monthly Newsletters will be sent home to notify parents of upcoming activities, events and curriculum plans. In addition, for those parents that provide us with their email address, we will send out brief email reminders regarding the program.
If at any time you have any questions or suggestions regarding the program, please contact the Lead Teacher or Preschool Director.
Birthdays/Special Occasions
At this time, we are unable to allow food items to be shared. However, the teachers will make sure to add activities to make your child’s day special.
Summer Swimming (pending pool restrictions)
Our summer schedule begins in June and goes through August. Weather permitting; the children will enjoy scheduled swimming activities in the wader pool.
Children are responsible for bringing:
1. bathing suit
2. medium sized towel
3. spray sunscreen
4. swim pants (if under 4 years of age)
5. goggles
6. swim shoes (Crocs, flip-flops, etc.)
All items should be labeled with the child’s name and be brought to school each swim day. Swimming is a privilege and teachers may cancel swim time at any time for any reason.
Hiring Staff to Babysit
The Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club DOES NOT ENCOURAGE staff to baby-sit due to conflicting roles. SRSRC does not authorize or take responsibility for any services that its employees might provide outside of Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club employment. Please keep in mind that “babysitting” hours may not interfere with or overlap our employees’ scheduled hours with the Club.
Child Abuse
The staff is required by law to report suspected child abuse to the proper authorities. The telephone number of the Child Protective Services is (619) 560-2191. The Family Stress Center (619) 691-1331 assists families with stressful times and provides suggestions for parenting techniques.
Media
Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club may take pictures and/or video of participants and activities for the website www.srsrc.com, promotional materials, camp/program projects, and/or for publicity purposes. Please contact
the director in writing if you would like to withdraw your photo/media permission. A new withdrawal request must be submitted at the start of each school year or program session.
Final Note
If you have any questions or want additional information on anything in this handbook or about the program, please see the Preschool Directors. We look forward to having your child become part of our preschool family.
