We are Scott Shaheen, Scott Ruth, John Martin and Mahood Fonville, founding brokers of SRMF.

With decades of experience working for national realty companies, we banded together to form a firm that reflects the values of our community.


Much like the start-ups thriving in Central and Eastern Virginia, SRMF values good hard work and rewards collaboration and innovation.

We are always looking for smarter ways to do things, and because we are an independent company, we have the agility and courage to try them.


The South is home to big front porches and folks who “never knew a stranger.”

It’s this sense of neighborhood and belonging that drives us every day.

Whether it’s a colonial townhouse in the city, a neighborhood lot, or a waterfront estate, we want to invite people into our communities and make them feel at home.


Like our fellow Virginian, George Washington, we can never tell a lie.

Here you won’t find any of the tricks that give real estate a bad name because we treat people the way we like to be treated.

All four founding brokers, and the majority of our agents have ties to Central and Eastern Virginia.

We know the neighborhoods, the schools, the businesses, the best spots for date night cocktails, the best courses to take clients for 18 holes, or that walking trail nearby. We have a deep connection to our area, and if we do our jobs right, all of our clients will too.

SA true industry veteran with over 32 years of real estate experience in Central Virginia, Scott Shaheen is leading a movement: To redefine real estate in Richmond and beyond. Having served as a Senior Vice President of the largest privately owned real estate firm in the country, Scott understands the importance of local expertise and personal relationships between broker, agent and client.

Scott is regularly named among the top in his field for sales and management and has earned numerous industry awards and accolades. In his career, he has been named Top 40 Under 40 from Inside Business, has served as President of the local Real Estate Association, been awarded the Adrian Bendheim, Jr. Award for Top Salesperson of the Year, and been named Realtor of the Year by his peers and the Richmond Association of Realtors. Scott continues to serve on the large Broker Council of RAR, which is made up of the top 12 brokers in the local association out of over 750 firms. Scott helped found Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate as the answer to modern real estate. Together they focus on using technology, marketing, and networking to create an unmatched experience for their agents and clients alike. Scott values people, and does everything in his power to help them reach their personal goals.

As a graduate of St. Christopher’s School and Radford University, Scott is a true leader and role model in the Richmond community. He has served on a committee at the Country Club of Virginia, drives the bus from retirement homes to church for St. Stephens Episcopal Church on Sundays, and supports a wide range of charitable organizations throughout the year. In his spare time, Scott enjoys boating and spending time at the River and snow skiing. He has two grown sons, a grandson and lives with his wife, Paige, in the City of Richmond.

RScott Ruth enjoys the excitement of the real estate industry and troubleshooting all the complex components of the business. Whether it’s reducing liability, solving complex problems, or navigating intricate processes and transactions, Scott works side by side with agents and clients to achieve the best possible outcomes. Licensed in 2002 and a managing broker since 2005, over the course of his career, Scott has had the opportunity to be a part of Greater Richmond’s transformation. He’s seen the resurgence of historic places and new growth in rural areas.

Since 2007, Scott has been named a top-producing selling broker with the CVRMLS, elected President of the Richmond Association of Realtors in 2012 and was awarded Realtor of the Year in 2015. As an owner of SRMF, Scott works hard to get back to the basics of real estate services and training on the latest tools available. His passion lies in hiring and training agents to the highest standards of professionalism and exceeding client expectations in the sale process by staying ahead of the power curve when it comes to technology, marketing, and networking.

Scott grew up in Richmond and graduated from The Collegiate School before receiving a BS in Business Administration from College of Charleston. His personal interests and passions in life include his family, outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, UGA Football, boating, skiing, surfing, traveling, VA Beach & The River. Scott serves on several committees in the Richmond area that include Real Estate, The Country Club of Virginia, and local school & camp alumni organizations. He is married to Jennifer and has four children; Anne Mason, Scotty, Bayler, Parker, and has a yellow lab named Sully.

MWith over two decades of real estate experience, John Martin has proven to be a top Broker in the region, with the highest honors in production locally and nationally selling almost $200,000,000 in the last five years alone. John has a deep knowledge of Virginia real estate. He has successfully filled the gap between the Richmond, Williamsburg, Peninsula, Northern Neck, and Middle Peninsula markets. He understands properties of all price points; from luxury to waterfront, from Governor’s Land to Goochland, from Westham to Windsor Farms to Yorktown to Salisbury to the historic Fan District of Richmond. He is one of the most accomplished Luxury Brokers in the Region in both Richmond and Williamsburg.

REAL Trends named John to their “Best Realtors in America” list for his yearly sales volume, and he has achieved countless Broker Management accolades for agent production, retention, and management. John is a proud co-owner of Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate, and he splits time between offices in Richmond and Williamsburg. As a co-founder and marketing leader in the firm, John is firmly committed to staying on top of technology, marketing, branding, and market knowledge. He believes character is everything, and that his own professional experience leads to better experiences for his clients and agents.

John is a graduate of Hampton Roads Academy (92) in Newport News and Hampden-Sydney College (96) in Farmville, Virginia. He and his wife Holly, also a licensed Realtor with the firm, have three amazing children and reside in Richmond’s Near West End.

FFor over 30 years, Mahood Fonville has been a leader in metro Richmond and Wintergreen real estate. Hundreds of clients have counted on him for exceptional results when buying or selling homes. These strong relationships come out of Mahood’s understanding of how important home transitions are in people’s lives. He makes his client’s objectives his own and works tirelessly to achieve them.

Mahood has consistently been at the top of his profession in both transactions and volume, and he has devoted decades to training and managing agents. He credits his family for the know-how and drive that has defined him as a broker. The Fonvilles helped start the largest privately owned real estate company in Richmond up until 1998, and they passed generations of experience down to him. Mahood co-founded SRMF with three colleagues who wanted to get back to the basics of real estate, working as close partners with their agents and clients to understand the nuances of the market. Mahood teams up with his wife, Walker, who works closely with all clients and specializes in the listing preparation of the home.

Mahood is a Richmond native and graduate of The Collegiate School and Hampden-Sydney College, where he received a BS in Managerial Economics. He and Walker have four children and love to spend their free time in the mountains or at the beach.
