CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY
Time Span: 4 months
Group Project: Concept and design collaboration with Mira Selk and Sophia Trojcevksi
Our group was tasked with repurposing the old Park Fair Mall in Des Moines, IA into a senior living community. The design suits the needs of our users by providing a facility that supports resident’s autonomy and social support. Our design choices are derived from the Support Theory and the Environmental Load Theory. This research based care cultivates a harmonious environment that allows residents to have access to a variety of experiences within the community to connect with others, nature and with themselves.

INDEPENDANT LIVING
A key driver in our spatial planning was to ensure that independent and assisted living apartments remained closeby to help elimate hesitation for those switching from independant to assisted. The residents would still be in close contact with those they are familiar with.

Blended is a new International Student Center on the Iowa State Campus that has been repurposed from the existing Landscape Architecture Building. The new center connects the different cultures of students and Iowa State. The design promotes and recognizes diversity through flexible spaces and furniture. A key driver in the project design is the Project Refuge theory in which promotes wellbeing and allows the users to feel safe and comforable in the interior environment by “seeing without being seen.”

RESIDENTIAL FURNISHING
Time Span: 2 Months
Professional Work
ModLuxe Retreat, a 6,000 sq. ft. home located in Dallas, TX, is a residential furnishing project that blends modern luxury with the simplicity and elegance of minimalistic design that prioritizes comfort and style. Over the course of just two months, from conceptualization to installation, every aspect of the home was curated to reflect the client’s love for clean lines, sophisticated accents, and a neutral color tone palette.
A floor-to-ceiling upholstered headboard envelops the plush king-sized bed, draped in silky linens and accentuated by oversized pillows, creating an intimate and luxurious retreat. Rich, darker tones add a touch and allure, infusing the space with a sensual atmosphere.
PERSPECTIVE
With the the clients having a boy and a girl in this room, we wanted to keep the color palette neutral. The wallpaper and rug patterns bring in a youthful aspect to the space and the styling pieces in the bookcase and art were great ways to add color to the room.
