The Legato
This is a conceptual project for renovation of an existing two story retail structure in 1540 Broadway, Oakland, CA to an eight story boutique hotel. This business and boutique hotel has been designed to feel both intimate and lively, with indoor/outdoor restaurant spaces and cafes. Inside, the Legato is inviting and chic, with warm woods and meticulously selected décor.
Site Analysis
Graphical representation of site location using Google Maps
This property is strategically in a great location right in the center of downtown facing the most iconic and busiest street, Broadway. While there are many advantages of this factor, a challenging point would be the heavy noise from the street which needs to be addressed in design. Hotel's vehicular access is through 1500 Broadway basement which is marked in green arrows lines and the access roads in yellow lines. The pedestrian entrance in marked in blue arrows. The southern side of the hotel is flooded with ample amount if sunlight and will act as a great advantage for the courtyard.
Concept & Mood Board
An expression of legato
The concept is 'an expression of legato' which means an expression of warmth in togetherness connecting multicultural hotel visitors.
With the use of free flowing and smooth transitioning interior space planning and with fluid style of abstract elements, an emotion of togetherness can be created in this space which lets the users draw a connection and spark interaction with one another.

Sustainability & Inclusive Design
In House Water Bottling Unit:
Saying no to plastic bottles, dedicated a clean space for in house water bottling unit which collects, sanitize, filters and fills up glass bottles in two different machines
Recyclable Fabrics
Textile recycling is the process of recovering fiber, yarn or fabric and reprocessing the textile material into useful products. All the fabrics are handpicked so that they contribute to the environment.
Centralized Solar Boilers
Central heating systems require much less energy to heat than traditional forced air central heating systems, resulting in economical operation and lower energy consumption in the form of much friendlier power/gas bills.
All the photographs above are on y for reference and are not origina ly available n the project site/building
100% Inclusive Design
This project design strategy is based on the grounds of universal/inclusive design which basically means that each and every corner of the interior is accessible for all wheel chairs and strollers
Insulated Dual Pane Windows
Double-pane windows provide this space with superior insulation by keeping cold out in the winter and heat out in the summer. Its environmentally friendly and reduces the power/ gas bills.
Energy Efficient LED Lighting
Energy saving lamps are sources of artificial light that employ advanced technology to reduce the amount of electricity used to generate light, relative to traditional filament burning light bulbs.
Coast Café
This design project is for a café in San Francisco. The Coast Café and Bakery is a casual and comfortable dine out that pops out as a surprise little corner of the street with its rustic modern interiors out of a busy mixed residential/commercial chic neighborhood in the city. Décor resonates a contrast combination of simple yet elaborate and also natural yet fancy materials and patterns.
Concept & Color Palette
Concept of this bakery has been derived from its location and its connection with the city. San Francisco's very first impression for me is its rustic clayish look, be it Golden Gate bridge in burnt orange color or the famous Redwood National Park with age old giant dark trees. While bread and baking has always a connection with shades of brown, idea is to blend nature of the city with purpose of the café.
Inspired from the San Francisco’s Red wood tree and the very famous Golden Gate Bridge hues in harmony with the cool shades of bay water surrounding the location.
Bright shades of Brown, Burnt orange with metallic finish balanced with cool blues and rustic neutrals like grey.
Design Factors
The design includes the geometrical shapes of circles and curves to represent the naturally formed circular wood grains of Redwood tree logs, like curved metal strip pattern in the floor, ceiling highlighter above the counter.

ASRA
This design project is a refugee center built for Afghans. It is a two story structure with extended stay studio plans, inclusive of facilities like community center, and café.
People
Users are the Afghan refugees who evacuated their country to escape from the humanitarian crisis in August 2021 when the capital city of Kabul, the last major area under government control, fell to the Taliban. These are refugee families experiencing stunning loss, anxiety, and fear due to political unrest.
PurposeTo provide a safe and protective environment for migrants and to ease off from unrest by providing assistance and amenities with comfortable yet modern facilities. This center helps in preserving the Afghan rich cultural heritage for migrants while helping them with resettlement in Portland.
PLace
6015 NE Holladay, Portland, Oregon Rose City Park
The climate of this area is temperate cold and rainy in winters and warm with dryness in summer. Winds are moderate and the solar exposure for this building is high through the curtain wall on the east and NE side of the building.
ConceptLet there be reflection of a bright parallel world!
The concept here is “a reflection of bright new parallel world ” that Afghan refugee families would hope to look at for an abundance of cheerful life ahead.
The space will feel like inspiring with an intimate, cozy, and decorative Afghan interior architecture merging into a comfy new modern and luxe style interior. It reminds people of a transformation yet with preservation of history and culture.
To achieve this feeling, the common spaces such as lobbies, interior courtyard, community room and common dining hall reflect historic architecture of Islamic style niches, arches and art, embossed with little mirrors that reflect a contrast of trendy lighting, organic/ geometrical patterned flooring and chic furnishings.

Mackerel
Mackerel (named after a species of fish) is a design project for a restaurant located in Fisherman's Warf, San Francisco. Our client chef, Tu David Phu from Vietnam has a passion for Vietnamese cuisine. He wants his restaurant visitors to fall in love with the place's food, ambience and its connection with Vietnam. Design concept is inspired by the rich rice field terrain and waters of Vietnam, which is all about giving a surprising experience to the guests by uncovering each layer of freshness with natural ambiance and food.
Research on Lighting
Lighting that adapts to a guest’s body rhythm, a multisensorial experience shower and an in room wellness wall. These are some of the features at Swissôtel The Stamford’s Vitality Rooms which bring the holistic wellness experience for guests to an entirely new level. These rooms have been specially tailored to enhance the natural energy and healthy lifestyles of guests. For example, the lights in the bed area can be adjusted to the guest’s natural circadian rhythms.
This changing ambiance influences the production of melatonin in the brain, providing a more restful sleep and even helping travelers overcome jet-lag.
This inspires me of choosing lighting for the Mackerel project that evokes an emotion of drawing a connection with Vietnam through liberal choices of shape, color and placement of lighting fixtures.

Business Hub

A company who were known for their innovative business services with reliable strategies and trusted client base for more than a decade, needed a training space that reflects their stability with a modern and comfortable environment.
Case Study
CMARIX Techno Labs India
CMARIX is a software development company located in Ahmedabad India. This office space gives a vibe of a stress free, comfortable, open and lively working environment. The moment we enter the office, the leading lines of the wooden ceiling takes to the focal point of the space ‘ the world map’. It is to symbolically mention about the global presence of the company. The wooden striped ceiling and the elongated lights in it are the actual pathways or the only visual division of the entire floor. It goes through workstations to conference through meeting rooms to the passage of directors cabins. Materials chosen here look earthy and natural with exposed brick, exposed RCC rendering, natural wood and stone claddings. Use of such materials & chosen antique accessories gives a thematic & aesthetic appeal to the entire space. All the cabins show the characteristics of the individual using the space and their beliefs.
Concept & Design Factors
.
The concept for this space is Fuse, which is an amalgamation of innovation with tradition.
With the use of geometric and abstract elements in design for creating a modern environment, and complimenting with a rustic and established material, patterns, and color choices, a sense of blend can be achieved.
Highlights of the design include Zig Zag arranged metal slat ceiling tiles coated in rustic brown, concrete style feature wall with 70% recyclable fabric acoustic boards with LED lights incorporated, tailored seating solutions with round edge design for extra comfort during long hour training sessions, and soothing blue established geometrical design patterned sustainable carpet tiles.

Villa 14
This is a residential interior design project of a newly constructed three story villa located in Andhra Pradesh, India. Client has approached my firm 'Spaces Justified' for design consultation with me as a principal and in collaboration with 'Elevate', our 3D partner and furniture manufacturer. Floor Plans and RCP
Goal is to create an effective space planning to achieve light and airy rooms that let in maximum natural light and with an open floor plan. This was achieved by using neutral tones of gray, brown, and blacks and whites for flooring, furnishings, lighting fixtures and textiles, and simple decorative elements displayed throughout. Also, the stuffy and heavy ornamentation were avoided and instead used clean and clear rectilinear lines which gave way to contemporary home feeling lighter in weight and more casual in livability.
