COMMUNITY JOB FAIR Canton-Spoon River College, Fulton and Mason County Career Link Offices, Parlin-Ingersoll Library and the YWCA Women’s and Girl’s Empowerment Center are teaming up to host a Job Fair on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 1-4 p.m. The event will be held at the Parlin-Ingersoll Library at 205 W. Chestnut Street in Canton. Approximately 10-15 employers from the Central Illinois area will be on site to meet and speak with prospective candidates. Members of the community, as well as students and alumni from Spoon River College and other area colleges and universities, are encouraged to attend. Andrea Barbknecht, from the SRC Employability Skills Center, recommends that anyone who may be seeking a job or considering a job change in the near future attend the fair. “This is an excellent opportunity for prospective employees to see what career opportunities are available in this area,” says Barbknecht. “There will be employers from many different lines of employment present.” The Job Fair will be the first location where those interested in employment at the Canton Harvester Inn may obtain applications and speak with hotel representatives. Patricia Clark, from the YWCA Women’s and Girl’s Empowerment Center, recommends that the best way to take advantage of the Job Fair is to be prepared. “Bring copies of your resume, dress neatly and professionally, and carry a notebook and pen. Think about how you will introduce yourself.” In preparation for the Job Fair, The SRC Office of Community Outreach will host a FREE workshop on “How to Attend a Job Fair” on Monday, April 11th from 3-4 p.m. at the Outreach Center, 45 E. Side Square, Suite 302 in Canton. Please call 647-6260 with questions. The YWCA Women’s and Girl’s Empowerment Center will host a Pre-Job Fair Career Clothing Get-It-Together on Wednesday, April 20th from 1-5 p.m. at the Empowerment Center, 122 N Ave A in Canton. Participants can pick out a full interview outfit, including shoes, jewelry, purse, etc. If you are an employer and would like to have a booth at the fair, need additional information, or need special accommodations to attend, please contact SRC’s Brandi Ketcham at (309) 649-6324 or Andrea Barbknecht at (309) 647-6260.
