Making History A 2’x3’ two-sided poster that was the product of a 1-year research into how migration has shaped Canadian urbanism. Seven prior timelines, each addressing a single city (Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax) provided base information.
2013 Front–2700 facts, chronologically organized, are colour coded into five areas of significance. Back–15 maps representing a history of changing people and borders. Each map addresses a specific theme and highlights specific facts on the front informing different ways of reading it.

Possibility of an Island Located near the end of Chicago’s historic Navy Pier it is a minimalist object, a generic rectangular prism, easily grasped from all sides and as such heightens visitors relationship to Lake Michigan. It follows modernist
precedents, such as the McCormick Place in Chicago, as a large roof covering an open public space. It holds 1000 hotel rooms organized in a non-hierarchical plan. 81-lightwells provide light to each room and the pier below.
New Generic Studio Studio Instructor: Adrian Phiffer Site: Navy Pier, Chicago, IL
Structural Diagram A 3.5m by 3.5m grid organize a series of vierendeel trusses that frame each lightwell. Colour and Horizons One-thousand hotel rooms for 1000 individuals, each room a distinct colour derived from intersecting the space of the hotel with the RGB colour space.

Typical Plan

The mat-building massing allows the hotels height to relate to the adjacent properties.
A none-hierarchical plan organizes sets of four rooms around each lightwell.
The hotel serves to shelter the public life of the pier.

Roof Plan with Model Studies A publicly accessible roof provides walkways and places of rest within a semi-intensive green roof.

MUSEUM TORONTO (of land and rail)
2017
Taken as a whole, Museum Toronto: of land and rail, addresses both the city and its local context. It creates a large scale image for the city; while defining the character of smaller scale public spaces

TRANSITION STORIES Can the development of a master-planned district give more to a city than it takes? This is a speculative urban design proposal for a mixed-used district adjacent to a large-scale park bridging an active rail corridor. It seeks
to address the vulnerability of Toronto Hydro’s aging power infrastructure through the use of district-scale infrastructure; while, also, building to attract the aging and young, who are in periods of transition.

Buying & Selling A per formative architectural installation exploring issues of choice and need within global housing systems. Guided by performance artist, Sara French, visitors explored housing options in twelve different contexts.
The process invited reflection, in which personal wants for housing are self-assessed, creating conversation about what housing options are available and how people make choices to secure housing.

Livestock, particularly cattle, and plant products such as grain, come to be used as money in many different societies at different periods. Cattle are probably the oldest of all forms of money, as domestication of animals tends to precede the cultivation of crops.
