RENOVATION IMPACTS

While the upgrades at Brennan Park Recreation Centre continue, there will be some impacts to be aware of:

The south (Aquatics) entrance will remain closed until the new building addition is complete. The gymnasium will be inaccessible from the main lobby. Please enter from the carpark. During this closure, temporary washrooms are in place in the carpark, as the Tantalus washrooms will be undergoing renovations at this time. The Black Tusk Activity Room, Tantalus Activity Room, and the Tantalus washrooms will see renovation improvements.

During this time these rooms and washrooms will be unavailable. Alternate washrooms can be accessed in the arena lobby.

SUMMER CAMPS

Squamish Recreation and Culture summer programs, day camps and leadership courses offer creative, fun and social summer learning opportunities for all ages. Choose from our selection of School Age Adventure Camps and LEAP Camps for kids aged 3-5.

LEAP INTO SUMMER

Our LEAP (Learning through Exploration Activity and Play) Camps run for two hours a day with an educational focus, getting your little ones used to being away from their parent(s) or caregiver(s), and starting to learn routines on their own. LEAP Camps provide opportunities for developing movements skills, healthy habits, good behaviours, and confidence.

To attend, children must be able to use the washroom independently.

CAMP SURVIVAL GUIDE

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP

A Camp Weekly Notice will be emailed to parents on the Friday prior to the start of camp. Please ensure we have your current email address by calling the customer service desk at 604-898-3604. Please read the Camp Weekly Notice and send any specific gear required each day. Camps will be held outside. Please ensure your camper is prepared for all types of weather (rain, sun and wind). Please send your child with sunscreen applied, with extra sunscreen, hat, jacket, warm long sleeve and running shoes. We will remind your child to reapply sunscreen, but we will not apply sunscreen to your child.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP

The location of your camp will be communicated to you in the welcome email sent out the Friday prior to the start of camp. Please be on time to pick up your child from camp. There is a $5 charge for the first 15 minutes, the charge is $1 per minute after that.

CAMP CANCELLATIONS

In the event of a camp cancellation, you will be notified by phone at least 48 hours prior to the start of the camp. Please ensure we have your correct home and cell phone number on file.

WITHDRAWING FROM A CAMP

If you choose to withdraw your child from camp, you must notify us five days (Tuesday) prior to the first day of camp (Monday). If you choose to withdraw with less than the required notice or after the camp begins, no credit or refund will be given.

CREDIT & REFUND POLICY

To receive a full refund, summer camp participants must withdraw in person, or by calling Recreation Services, five (5) calendar days (120 hours) prior to the start of the first day of the weekly camp or five (5) calendar days (120 hours) prior to the start of the day camp. No refund will be issued if withdrawal is requested less than five (5) calendar days (120 hours) prior to the camp starting time.

CHILD PROGRAM FORMS AND WAIVERS

We require a form for each summer camp participant. These forms are required to ensure the safe participation of your children.

ECO RANGERS

Let’s go green together! Campers will have fun learning about plants in the garden, playing ‘green’ themed games and making natural art projects! By the end of the week campers will leave with many ideas and resources on how they can reduce their eco footprint at home and beyond.

51/2–7yrs

This camp includes indoor and outdoor games and projects tailored for five and a half to seven year olds.

7–12yrs

Seven to twelve year olds will love the games and activities that are offered at this camp, both indoors and out.

JULY 7–11

LITTLE SPORT STARS

3–5yrs

Run! Jump! This session will have your athlete playing a variety of sports and games. They will be pulling you outside to keep the play going until the lights come on! No daily drop-ins. Your child must be toilet trained in order to attend.

SPORTS OF ALL SORTS

Join us for an action-packed week of soccer, pickleball, relay races, and much more. This camp is appropriate for all ability levels. Campers will have a chance to work on their fundamental movement skills while making new friends and working together.

This camp includes a visit to Evans Lake and outdoor rock climbing with Squamish Rock Guides.

7–12yrs

This camp will visit the Ninja Gym.

MAD SCIENTISTS

3–5yrs

If your child likes to experiment through potions and play, this session is for you. Participants will learn about the world around them through easy experiments, movement and play. No daily drop-ins. Your child must be toilet trained in order to attend.

LET’S GET MESSY: ARTS & SCIENCE

This week is all about the wild and wacky world of art and science! We will be doing a variety of fun experiments, art projects and other activities! Come prepared to get messy. Don’t forget your running shoes for active fun as well.

51/2–7yrs

This camp includes a visit to Ground Up Climbing Centre for indoor rock climbing and a visit from a local pottery artist.

7–12yrs

This camp will go to Evans Lake and have a visit from a local pottery artist.

JULY 21–25

T-REX TREKKERS

3–5yrs

In this session, we'll be trekking back in time to trace the tracks of the T-Rex and other dinosaurs. Your budding paleontologists will love to explore the world of the dinosaurs with us. No daily drop-ins. Your child must be toilet trained in order to attend.

ACTIVE KIDS CAMP WITH RYAN JOHNSTON

6–9yrs

Get your kids outdoors this summer! Opportunities for your kids to learn new skills, make new friends and have a lot of fun! Offering a range of activities and games each day including yoga, hiking, gymnastics, soccer and much more! This camp does not run out of Brennan Park Recreation Centre. DINOSAUR DISCOVERIES

Discover your inner dino! Make your own fossil, create an epic volcano, and learn about the various dinosaurs that roamed the land before us.

UNDER THE SEA

Seashells, starfish, and song! Your child will love to ‘catch a wave’ with our team to learn about ocean animals and their environment, with artwork you’ll love! No daily drop-ins. Your child must be toilet trained in order to attend.

This summer, get your kids outside! Chances for your children to have a great time, make new friends, and acquire new skills! TREASURE HUNTERS

We are searching for buried treasure! Come and discover how to use a treasure map and follow clues to find the reward. Campers will have the opportunity to try geocaching for nearby hidden treasure!

This camp includes a visit to the Britannia Mine Museum.

Participants will move and play while checking out what hides under rocks, in leaves and everywhere else in nature!

Get your kids outside this summer! Opportunities for your children to acquire new skills, meet new friends, and have a great time! CHASING NATURE

Join us to explore local trails, identify the many trees and plants that live amongst us, and cool down at the end of the day with some water games and activities.

This camp will visit the Sea to Sky Gondola.

SPACE RANGERS

3–5yrs

Calling all astronauts! Explore planets, stars and rocket ships. No daily drop-ins. Your child must be toilet trained in order to attend.

Dive deep into the galaxy this week! Get your hands messy with galactic slime, create glowing stars and take part in the solar system challenge.

Did you know bears can smell food from over a kilometre away? This week is full of fun with stories, art and science that are all about...you guessed it: animals! Campers will take part in a variety of art projects and active games each day while learning about nature and wildlife living in Squamish and beyond.

We are going to rev up participants with races and running. This high- octane session is sure to have them thankful they made the pit stop. No daily drop-ins. Your child must be toilet trained in order to attend.

We offer a range of leadership and training opportunities to help youth build confidence, gain valuable life skills and earn specialized certifications needed for employment.

HIGH FIVE®

Plan to work with children as a camp counsellor or sport coach? Learn activities, tips, and resources specific to working with ages 4 to 12.

STANDARD FIRST AID / WORKSAFEBC INTERMEDIATE

Train for employment or simply to be prepared for life-threatening emergencies. All EFA content plus dealing with more complex medical emergencies.

To ensure you know that a spot has become available, add communication@xplorrecreation.com to your Contacts and/or Safe Senders list. Also check your Junk/ Spam folder for these emails and mark as “Not Junk”. These steps help the notifications make it to your inbox so you can respond before your spot expires. As a space becomes available, waitlisted participants are notified by email. You have up to 24 hours to accept or decline before the system automatically declines for you and the space is offered to the next person.

SWIMMING LESSONS AT A GLANCE

0–2 years (PARENT & TOT)

JELLYFISH: 3–12 months

Infants will be getting their face wet, blowing bubbles and floating with the help of their parent/caregiver.

GOLDFISH: 12–24 months

Toddlers learn how to enter and exit the water with help from their parent/caregiver, and will play games to encourage them to get their face wet and blow bubbles.

SEAHORSE: 24–36 months

With help from their parent/caregiver toddlers will develop skills such as submersion and opening their eyes underwater. Floats and kicks are learnt through games.

3–5 years

OCTOPUS

Octopus is a transitional level which transfers the preschooler to the care of the instructor.

CRAB

Preschoolers will learn submersion skills and continue to work on floats, glides, and kicking with buoyant objects.

ORCA

Preschoolers will learn how to submerge and exhale underwater, retrieve objects, and will continue developing their floating, gliding and kicking skills.

SEA LION

Preschoolers will become skilled at retrieving objects from the bottom in chest- deep water and performing front and side glide. Front crawl with a PFD is introduced.

NARWHAL

Front and back crawls are introduced as well as interval fitness training. Preschoolers will also learn how to tread water and perform vertical whip kick with a buoyant aid.

6–12 years

SWIMMER 1

These beginners will learn how to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. Floats, glides and kicking skills are introduced.

SWIMMER 2

These swimmers will learn how to tread water, develop kicking skills, and will be introduced to front crawl and back crawl.

SWIMMER 3

These swimmers will learn Swim to Survive® skills, whip kick on back and will further develop their front crawl and back crawl.

SWIMMER 4

These swimmers will learn the Swim to Survive® standard and start to develop breaststroke. Front crawl and back crawl are further developed.

SWIMMER 5 & 6

Swimmer 5 will further their Swim to Survive® skills and start to develop eggbeater kick. Swimmer 6 will master eggbeater and scissor kick. Breaststroke, front crawl, and back crawl distances are developed specific to each level.

SWIMMER 7, 8, & 9

Swimmers refine stroke techniques and add 100m distance increases each level. Water proficiency skills include swimming with clothes, ready position, and feet-first/head-first surface dives.

BEFORE REGISTRATION DAY

Check out our registration tips on page 24. If you’ve never taken lessons with us before, ask a Lifeguard how to get your child assessed.

PLEASE NOTE:

If it becomes apparent on Day 1 that a child has been registered in a swim level they are not ready for (ie: registered in Swimmer 3 and have not completed Swimmer 2), one of our supervisors will speak with the caregiver and the child will have to be withdrawn from lessons.

HOT TIPS FOR REGISTRATION DAY

PROGRAMS ARE VISIBLE ONLINE ONE WEEK BEFORE REGISTRATION DAY

Use this time to practice navigating, see all that is on offer and make sure everything in your account is working well for you before Day 1. What you see on your desktop is slightly different on your cell phone — practice navigating on the one you’ll be using.

Customer Service experiences a notable increase in phone call volume on Registration Days and returns phone messages in the order received.

REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 8 am

Your system may need to be refreshed at 8 a.m. if you logged in too early.

YOUR CHILD’S BIRTHDAY & SWIM LESSONS

Children must be the minimum age of the level on or before the first swim lesson of the set to be able to register. Creating a duplicate account to change your child’s birthday will result in immediate removal from the class with freezing of account/s until a birth certificate can be presented verifying the correct date/age of participant. If you have any questions or would like assistance finding the right program for you and your family, please reach out to us at 604-898-3604.

DATE RANGE FIELDS

Courses appear in order of start date. Because our current season’s programs will still be happening, they appear first. Either scroll down to find the upcoming season’s courses OR use the “Date Range” fields and put the Registration Day 1 date in the first date field. Leave the second date field as the default setting. Each season’s Registration Day 1 can have start dates happening two or three months later.

If you’re looking up an activity like Preschool Swim Lessons that have more than 50 offerings in a season, you can put in the Lesson Set start date to skip right to Set 2 or Set 3.

This mood-lifting class inspired by various forms of music uses chairs for warm-up and support – a fun exercise for mind and body. All levels welcome.

HAND & ARM RECOVERY EXERCISES

Overcoming stroke or other challenges affecting the hands and arms through challenging repetitions, encouraging use of the affected hand in everyday activities.

HIP AND/OR KNEE RECOVERY

Circuit-based exercise aimed to optimize the health of neurological systems. Ideal for individuals affected by stroke, acquired brain injury, MS, Parkinson's or spinal cord injury.

POSTURE & BALANCE

Reduce aches and pains with slow, low-impact movements, including standing and floor-based work. All levels welcome.

REDUCED MOBILITY MOVEMENT

Uplifting activity to music – 10 minutes seated warm up, 15 minutes strengthening, 15 minutes personalized postural and balance exercises, 10 minutes agility games and cool down. Suitable for all levels, wheelchairs welcome.

RE-FIT – EXERCISE FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS & FALL PREVENTION

DROP - IN PROGRAMS AND SCHEDULE

Self-led drop-in activities are opportunities to visit with other seniors who share your interests and want to contribute knowledge for things like art, cards or sewing.

Drop-in payment and sign-in is required in order to participate.

Please pay in-person at Customer Service.

Drop-in programs do not run on statutory holidays.

Join us on our 55yrs+ Bus Trips to various destinations in the Lower Mainland. Dates, times, and prices vary by destination. Trips are either “Choose Your Own Adventure” which offers transportation to a destination only with approx. 3hrs to spend at your leisure, or “Special Package” (inclusive of an admission ticket) to a specific event. Trip dates and destinations are listed on the monthly 55yrs+ program calendar. See Customer Service desk for a printed list. Trips are released monthly on the 15th of the month prior.
