St. Pius X High School

celebrates 60 years

This fall, Joe Monachino, Jr., Principal of St. Pius X High School announced the Warrior Pride Capital Campaign. This campaign includes the renovation of the Fine Arts & Activity Center (former convent) and the acquisition of 45 acres near campus to build an Athletic Complex. The total cost of these projects is $7 Million. The renovation of the Fine Arts & Activity Center is estimated to cost $1.5 Million. The acquisition of 45 acres of land and addition of a baseball field, softball field, 8 tennis courts, cross country trails and practice soccer field is estimated to cost $5.5 Million.

St. Pius X celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the school in the fall of 2016. Events were held the weekend of Homecoming, and many students, alumni, parents and friends joined us to celebrate our wonderful school and history. Throughout the weekend, there were reunions, an alumni get-together after the football game, and a Mass & Reception, including a commemoration to our deceased alums on Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to a lead gift, renovation at the Fine Arts & Activity Center is underway. The building will house art, music, broadcasting, and technology classes, in addition to meeting rooms and a top floor event space. Through a partnership with Catholic Radio, they will move their offices to the middle floor of the building. The classrooms are nearing completion and our students will soon be begin their daily classes at the renovated site. Plans are continuing at the 45 Acre site for the Athletic Complex. Engineers are making final modifications to the plans and are in the process of getting the permits for the site work from the City so that we can begin work as funding becomes available. “Our primary goal with the athletic fields is to accommodate all of our students who play sports. We currently do not have home facilities for baseball, softball, tennis or cross country. The opportunity to give them fields and trails close to campus would decrease travel, improve safety and renew school spirit for those sports, commented Joe Monachino, Jr., Principal.

A display including yearbook photos throughout the years will remain in the Entry Hall of the school for the rest of the school year.

Thank you to all of you who have already pledged to the Campaign. To date, over $4.8 Million in gifts and pledges have been secured. Please pray for the success of the Campaign so that we can continue to provide the best learning environment and extra-curricular opportunities for our students.

A Message From The Principal Dear Friends, Our 60th year has been one of the most exciting years in our history. We spent a good part of the last year doing the ground work to begin our next Capital Campaign. The results of the Feasibility Study indicated our community was in support of the suggested improvements for our students. Receiving the blessing of Bishop Johnston, we began the $7 Million project with lead gifts of over $4 Million. A project of this magnitude is something I never dreamed would happen while I was principal of St. Pius X. Improving and expanding our campus brings a renewed spirit to our students, staff and community. We announced the public phase of the Campaign at our 60th Anniversary Celebration at the end of September. Since that time, our volunteers have been working hard to help spread the word of the Campaign and seek support of our entire community. Meanwhile, thanks to lead gifts, we were able to immediately begin renovating the former convent. Construction is nearing completion and we will invite you to see the finished product when it’s done. By the time you receive this newsletter, the bottom floor should be occupied on a daily basis by our students for art, music, and broadcasting classes. Our students are having another successful year as well. We have our largest Senior class since 1981! You can see a sample of the student life this school year below. Students in the Class of 2017 are serving as great leaders of St. Pius X this year. They are showing us and their peers their dedication to their faith, academics, and community on a daily basis. It will be an exciting time to see the culmination of achievements they amass by their graduation on May 21st.

All of these wonderful things continue to happen at St. Pius X because of YOU, our faithful St. Pius X supporters. Through your continued prayers, generosity of your time, talent and treasure we’re able to continue to provide our students the best Catholic, college preparatory education. I often wish you could see our students in action on a daily basis as I do, to see in person how your financial support helps us fulfill our mission. Your support of Catholic education is helping to shape our next generation of leaders. With that being said, I would like to leave you with words from a current student. “St. Pius provides a wonderful learning environment. The smaller classes allow you to know everyone and make long lasting friendships. The teachers and coaches genuinely care about you and are very approachable. Most importantly, our faith connects everyone, creating a strong sense of community, a family. When I transferred to St. Pius my sophomore year, I was embraced, and I am forever grateful and proud to call SPX my home.” Thank you for your continued support and prayers. With your help, we can continue our mission of Catholic education for many generations to come.

Memorial Gifts Leave a Legacy Over the years, several families have named St. Pius X as a beneficiary for gifts in memory of their loved ones. Some families designate the gifts to the capital campaign or annual fund, some have established scholarship funds and others designate the funds to a specific athletic activity or extra-curricular program. These gifts are greatly appreciated and have helped significantly in the various needs of our school. Most recently, the families of Genevieve Berg, Jay Gardner, Helene King, Jan Stefanov and Jean Trapp and asked that donations be made in their memories to St. Pius X High School.
