MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

THE CHAMBER MAKES YOUR BUSINESS BIGGER

their healthcare choices. The AHP is geared towards small-to-mid sized businesses, allowing them to gain the buying power of a larger employer when it comes to their healthcare options, including exposure to benefit plan choices currently unavailable to traditional small group employers.

Illinois Secure Choice, a retirement program offered through the Illinois State Treasurer’s office. Effective November 1, 2023, employers with five (5) or more FT and/or PT employees will be required to comply with this law. Employers who do not comply with the law will be subject to fines and penalties.

I realized firsthand the importance of The Chamber when I was a business owner in Springfield. One of the benefits of membership for me was The Chamber made my operation a bigger company by providing services and opportunities that alone we did not have the resources to do. I am pleased that The Chamber is continuing to do this through two programs we are now making available to our members - a group health insurance plan and a 401(k) plan.

The Chamber Association Health Plan (AHP) aims to save members and their employees money while giving them more options with

Health Alliance, well known throughout the state for high-quality care and excellent service, will coordinate essential services, including claims administration, medical management, provider network access and pharmacy benefits for the association. Five different plans are available, and employers can offer up to two (2) plans. There are 10 local Chamber member insurance agencies that are prepared to provide your company with a quote for one of these plans.

Signature Fiduciary Connect , is a John Hancock 401k retirement plan that provides a nearly turnkey plan with Bank of Springfield serving as the local financial advisor. Effective November 1, Illinois state law will require every Illinois employer with sixteen (16) or more full-time and/or part-time employees to offer their own retirement program, either through a private plan or through

Employer-sponsored retirement plans are critical for helping people save for retirement and attracting and retaining talent. But for many small businesses, managing a retirement plan can be difficult to do it alone. Signature Fiduciary Connect is designed for small to midsize organizations that want a simple, flexible, and east to administer 401(k) plan. The plan provides a seamless integration of retirement plan specialists working together to take on plan administration, HR tasks, and fiduciary risk while engaging your employees in their plan.

To learn more about either of these plans contact Lisa Schafer (217) 525-1173 x 203 or David Earhart at (217) 525-1173 x 215. More information can also be found on our website, www.gscc.org.

RETIREMENT PLAN MANDATE FOR EMPLOYERS

NOVEMBER 1 DEADLINE FOR THOSE WITH 16+ EMPLOYEES

Illinois state law very soon (November 1) will require every Illinois employer with sixteen (16) or more full-time and/or part-time (FT/ PT) employees to offer their own retirement program, either through a private plan or through Illinois Secure Choice, a retirement program offered through the Illinois State Treasurer’s office.

Employers who do not comply with the law will be subject to fines and penalties as described in 820 ILCS 80/85. Employers are not required to contribute financially to these programs.

Employers that meet the following criteria must comply with the law by November 1, 2022:

• Employ sixteen (16) or more FT and/or PT employees

• Business operating at least two years

• Currently do not offer a qualified saving plan such as a 401(k), SEP IRA, or Simple IRA

Employers with five (5) or more FT and/or PT employees will be required to comply with the law effective November 1, 2023.

The Chamber has researched alternatives and is offering the new member benefit Signature Fiduciary Connect by John Hancock, which offers small to mid-size companies a simple, flexible and easy to administer plan.

Regardless of what option is chosen, it is important that you are proactive and join us for one of these events to ensure your company is compliant by November 1.

If you have questions about this requirement and/or Signature Fiduciary Connect, go to www.gscc.org/retirement-program or contact Mike Murphy at mmurphy@gscc.org or 217-525-1173 ext. 205.

LEADERSHIP SPRINGFIELD PROGRAM UNDERWAY

NOW IN ITS 37TH YEAR

Leadership Springfield, a program of The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, recently kicked off its 37th annual class. Leadership Springfield exists to assist with the development of current and future leaders for area businesses, organizations, and the community at-large. It is our goal to strengthen our community one leader at a time. Upon completion of the program, participants will be recognized and honored during our Annual Gala in 2023.

Over 14 weeks this fall, participants will learn about various personality types, leadership styles and roles, leadership choices, time management, cultural intelligence, and team building. They will also enhance their leadership capabilities by learning from some our community’s best leaders, developing a deeper awareness of our community in the areas of Tourism, Healthcare, Education, Local & State Government, Homeland Security, Agriculture, and Technology.

Outside of regular program sessions, participants are also challenged to exercise creativity and problem-solving skills by working as teams on projects for the benefit of area not-for-profit organizations.

Leadership Springfield may be more relevant today than any other time in the program’s history. When you consider our everchanging culture, ongoing technological advances, and the need for leaders to guide organizations while connecting the right people to the right priorities – great leadership is essential.

We need leaders who, for decades to come, will understand how to bring people together to solve problems and not just talk about them. And, maybe most of all, we need leaders who want to and will do the right thing, even in the face of opposition.

ENERGY CO-OP STILL TIME, NO COST TO SIGN UP

The Chamber continues to partner with nationally recognized energy management experts, CQI Associates, to administer and manage the Chamber’s Energy Purchasing Cooperative.

Competitive rates are obtained by leveraging aggregated usage from members of 23 Chambers of Commerce. The increased purchasing power allows members to receive lower rates than they could typically attain on their own.

This benefit is only available to Chamber members who receive their electric and/or natural gas services through Ameren. If your business or organization is a substantial user of natural gas and/or electricity, significant savings can be realized on its annual utility costs.

If you would like an estimate on your company’s savings, contact David Earhart at (217) 525-1173 ext. 215 or dearhart@gscc.org. For the estimate, companies will need to complete a Letter of Authorization (download at www.gscc.org/member-savings) and provide a recent copy of their utility bill. For questions, please contact Shelby Dupont with CQI Associates at shelby@cqiassociates.com or (217) 521-9400.
