The aroma of burnt sugar and overcooked hot dogs hung heavy in the air, a familiar scent that always heralded the start of something special. It was Super Bowl Sunday, and the atmosphere at my friend Mark’s annual viewing party was electric, a chaotic ballet of cheering, groaning, and the rhythmic clinking of beer bottles. I’m not a sports person. I find the whole thing rather pedestrian, the yelling, the sweaty bodies, the endless analysis of plays I barely understand. But Mark, bless his heart, always made sure to have an impressive spread of food and a selection of craft beers I couldn’t resist.This year, however, the Eagles were in the Super Bowl, and even my jaded self felt a flicker of excitement. In the midst of the celebration, someone bumped into me, spilling beer down my sweater. I was mortified.
