My usual disdain for anything remotely branded or mass produced was fully in play that sunny afternoon at Citi Field. I, Veronica Sterling, purveyor of fine linens and generally disapproving of anything less than bespoke, had been dragged, quite literally, to a Mets game. My best friend, bless her relentlessly optimistic soul, thought a day of baseball and hot dogs would be “good for me.” I envisioned hours of uncomfortable bleacher seats, the blaring of that godawful organ, and the constant, irritating chatter of the baseball-obsessed masses. But against all odds, the day took a turn.As the seventh inning stretch commenced, and the crowd rose to their feet, I found myself actually enjoying the spectacle.The crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, the surprisingly palatable ballpark food it was almost…fun.

Then, disaster struck.Arogue foul ball, propelled with brutal force, headed straight for my face. I braced myself, mentally composing the obituary. But before impact, a figure, a young man with the easy grace of a seasoned athlete, leaped in front of me, taking the hit squarely in the chest.The ball, thankfully, had only grazed him, but his heroic action left him slightly winded. “Are you alright?” I stammered, genuinely concerned. He flashed me a grin, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Never better. Just protecting the ladies.”And then, he casually brushed off his shirt, revealing a design that instantly caught my attention. It wasn’t some generic, cheaply made piece of merchandise. It was vibrant, well-designed, and somehow managed to be both classic and modern. It had the logo of the NewYork Mets, but it was done with a flair, a certain…panache. I, Veronica Sterling, the snob, was intrigued.
