Two Prepsters Join the Eagle Scout Ranks On hand at the Eagle Scout
Court of Honor for Sean Ryan, ’11 in May were classmates Tim McManus, Mike Polanin and Kevin Ruane. The trio of well-wishers had also assisted in Sean’s Eagle Scout project. Chris Egan, ’13 also joined the ranks of Prep’s Eagle Scouts in May, continuing a tradition that highlights the values of service and striving for excellence that scouting and Jesuit education share in common. Another Prep Eagle Scout, meanwhile, put his first aid training to work in a lifesaving effort. Matt McGovern, ’13 and a friend performed CPR to revive Frank Rizzo, a Point Pleasant Beach councilman, when he collapsed on July 16.

New Scholarship Fund Honors Br. Paul Harrison, S.J. Prep has long been committed to educating men of competence, conscience and compassion. In parallel to that commitment, Prep also strives to ensure that any student who is qualified to attend, can afford to attend. As such, 40% of the student body receives some level of financial assistance each year. Recognizing, however, that students may require additional support in case of family crisis or sudden economic hardship, Chris DeCresce, ’89 and Ed Gargiulo, ’89 have partnered with Prep to establish the Br. Paul Harrison, S.J. Scholarship Fund. The fund is named in memory of a man who had a quiet but substantial impact upon the lives of generations of Prep men, thanks to his tireless efforts to keep the school’s facilities running smoothly and looking their best. In the spirit of Br. Paul, a true man for others, DeCresce and Gargiulo hope to garner support for students in need. As of this writing, $34,000 had already been raised, two-thirds of the goal for the 201112 school year. “Chris and I are very determined to meet our goal of $50,000 for the upcoming school year because we feel these kids deserve it,” Gargiulo said. “We hope this fund builds enough momentum where these are not one-off contributions, but alumni and other friends of Prep supporting kids in need through graduation.” 4
